Yes

Narkopop is a slightly awkward step in Gas' output. It's still great, don't get me wrong, but it doesn't feel quite as fully realized as the albums preceding it. Think about it: Zauberberg was a massive, oppressive slab of dark, militaristic tones that was deeply frightening at times and Pop was a transcendentally beautiful trip through a peaceful, calming dream state. Narkopop feels so, so hesitant compared to the fully formed atmospheres of those two. It doesn't quite have its own sonic identity, feeling more like a dry run for Pop than like its own entity. It's a small issue, like I said, the album is still very, very good, but it's enough to make it the least essential Gas album outside of the self titled.
