The point of these threads is to encourage people to look for new and interesting music. We do this by listening to and ideally discussing albums we've never heard before. Many of us already listen to new music daily, these people are in it to venture "out of their comfort zone" by listening to albums they otherwise wouldn't have, or just to have a good time. This community is so inclusive that even communists and fascists coexist!

>Ween - Pure Guava
Yknow, when Mourning Glory came on, the sound of this album kinda clicked for me. It's a total satire and deconstruction of music of the time (a la Zappa), except to me this is much more extreme than God Ween Satan. So when I say Mourning Glory is the summary of the album, I mean that it's the peak of how ridiculous and noisy it gets. No song ever gets that noisy, but they certainly get that over the top. The whole album has this sort of druggy, hazy feel to me, amplified by distorted guitars, wacky vocal effects, and other comical noises, sounds, and lyrics. But then songs like Don't Get 2 Close (2 My Fantasy) come along, which show the best side of Ween, the side that makes The Mollusk so good for me: the funny, psychedelic pop tunes with heavy satirical undertones. The avant-garde and the pop parody are two things that Zappa and Ween have in common, and while Ween may not be able to do avant-garde as well as Zappa can, they can certainly do pop just as well. I think this will grow on me with more listens, but I still have to digest for now.

>Otomo Yoshihide's New Jazz Ensemble - Dreams
Oh, Otomo. Only you could make some of the most freaky, cryptic, noisy tape music and onkyo out there, and then turn around and make a (mostly) soothing, cloudy, beautiful jazz album. Something about the vocals is so freakin cute, it reminds me of Midori in a way. The jazz itself is very quirky, to attempt to describe it with a word. It's clearly avant garde, but it never gets too harsh or weird until the last 10 minutes. Until then, its kinda weird, but still cozy. In the last 10 minutes, Yoshihide adds his finishing touches. Sine waves and banging drums swallow the whole track, and suddenly, every instrument breaks out into a free jazz craze. It's awesome. I love this album, and I need to dig into Yoshihide more

>>72249067
Hi everybody. Back to reviewing in 2017 I guess. Are you wondering how self-aware Mac DeMarco is on the Lou Reed to Father John Misty spectrum ?

Does LA smell bad enough for you, one reporter asked Mac at his home in sunny Calalalabasafrass. Big change from queens, Now even his gray taste buds could taste the tacos
No, Mac replied with no particular enchantment, with the song “Baby you’re out,”
“But now it does.”

I don’t know if Mac demarco broke up with his girlfriend. My assumption is no, because thes songs are not credible break-up songs. Mac demarco traded his chorus pedal guitars for synthesizers, maybe that’s the break up he’s talking about. I wouldn’t be surprised because he sings “for the first time,” right before the chorus pedal finally gets used on the basic, pretty “One Another.” The chorus pedal is the eternal Mac attack.

Not rock

Yet mac manages to make this a mediocre album because his production is still really good and the sounds his instruments have are not objectionable, particularly on “Dreams from Yesterday,” with its tidal chorus lead, and “on the Level,” a track about being on the level. At this point I think you’re supposed to interpret macdemarco songs as Feelings. The only lyrics that really matter are the chorus lyrics. The verses are just mac muttering pastiche romance garbage over a bouncy bass and some kind of blurry chordal accompaniment.

Disappointment? Yes. Mac DeMarco released a better album in 2 and I even liked the spare Another One more than this . Is it a sack of shit? No. This guy will never be a top tier artist but right now hes making hundos. I give this release one star for porch music, for when your systems bass isnt good enough to play Fleetwood mac correctly

What next?

YEAH LEMME GET UUUUUUUUH...GOOD REVIEW

REVIEW MACHINE BROKE

SHID

>Melt Yourself Down - Melt Yourself Down
High energy, soulful, fucking jams. Hell flippin yeah. Idk what else I can say but that I REALLY enjoyed this. If you don't like music made after 2010 stay away. Otherwise would highly rec.
8

>Pylon - Gyrate
"Weather Radio" and "Precaution" kinda stunk, but otherwise, it's a golden-era post-punk album. What do you want me to do? NOT like it? Lol.
8

>Ogre You Asshole - Ogre You Asshole
Japanese Modest Mouse. Seriously. Listen to カポ (kapo) and try to tell me these guys didn't bump to "This Is a Long Drive" several hundred times in their life. This will for sure run the gambit of "It's like MM...but not as good!" but I think it's different enough to hold it's own, influences apparent or not. I really also enjoyed the tangible post-punk influences, not something I see done well in the modern world. A really unique album I'd highly rec if you consider yourself a fan of Modest Mouse, and want something that captures the flair of their earlier stuff.
7

>Mew - Frengers
Sure is pretty neat for an "indie pop" record. After the first three tracks I was fucking set for this to be one of the best pop albums I've ever heard. Seriously, "Am I Wry? No" and "Snow Brigade" are two of the best songs I've heard from the genre. So much tangible passion and energy goes into them that it's hard not to jam out. Unfortunately, there's a pretty big quality dip in the middle of the album. Tracks 4-7 starkly contrast the amazing first three songs' quality. At least the closer is fantastic too.
7

>Sebadoh - Bakesale
A surprisingly good Dinosaur Jr. side-project from Lou Barlow. Follows the You're Living All Over Me tradition of being extremely top-heavy, but has plenty of enjoyable tracks like "
Not Too Amused" and "Careful". Can't see many getting much enjoyment out of this unless you're a pretty big Dino Jr. fan, but pretty good for what it is.

>Boris With Merzbow - Klatter
A pretty good release + Merzbow ads a lot of dimension to a lot of these songs, but I find it just a tad unnecessary. "Akuma no Uta" is great, but the one that already existed not only had better recording, but was just a better song in general. In fact, "Jane" is probably the only song here I find that actually matters. I think it's a tad bombastic, but it fits the album as a whole. A decent addition to these guys' catalog, but Merzbow and Boris have made better stuff.
6

>Bill Callahan - Sometimes I Wish We Were an Eagle
Kind of wishy-washy for a modern singer/songwriter album, and I wouldn't in the right mind really rec this to anyone here. In fact, the only reason I really think I enjoyed this as much as I did was because I really have a soft spot for country timbres, and this was filled to the brim with that twang. Brings me to my happy place, but it isn't that amazing.
6

>Harold Budd, Elizabeth Fraser, Robin Guthrie & Simon Raymonde - The Moon and the Melodies
If you can even call this a Cocteau Twins release, it's probably the worst one other than Milk & Kisses. Really surprised me how bad this album got, as the opener, "Sea, Swallow Me", was fantastic. "Eyes Are Mosaics" also had some nice moments, but otherwise this was extremely forgettable. "Ambient Pop" is a great descriptor when it's just super empty, forgettable pop music. If you're getting into the band, feel free to skip this one with extreme prejudice.

>Harold Budd / Brian Eno - The Pearl
One of Eno's worst and Budd's best. I constantly hold the notion that every time Eno collaborated with Budd, Eno was being held back. This ambiance is so forgettable and innefective that's it's crazy to think I enjoyed this as much as I did. I think it's still very bad, but tracks like "Foreshadowed" and "Against the Sky" I found to be pretty damn great. Still, I found the textures in this not really serving to the overall pieces. Eno makes better ambient music by making use of space, and I found this far too busy to be a successful ambient album.
5

>Cordelia's Dad - s/t
Apparently one of the top 10 albums ever made according to the first known avant-teen ever, ~sellmeagod. However, this is just a collection of country standards done in an alt-rock format. I liked Scarborough Fair, almost, but literally every song on this album has been done better half a decade ago. This album is worthless and bad.

>Fushitsusha with Peter Brotzmann - Pouring The Tea You Are Bound To Suddenly Shout Out Something Ancient And Empty That Causes Your Guests To Become Uncomfortable And Leave

It’s a three hour live concert of… well it’s Peter Brotzmann and Keiji Haino doing what they do best, what did you expect? If you like these guys, you know exactly what you’re in for and boy do they fucking deliver. I would have killed to be at this concert. It’s worth praising that for three hours, this is an incredibly varied and interesting performance. Haino brings out some real bluesy shit at some point which I did not expect. There are moments of pure chaos and clarity spread out well between what I suppose could be called intermissions of noise. These moments of clarity are perfect 10/10 moments that are unfortunately bookended by some weaker, blander stuff, which is hard to really hold up as a major criticism due to the nature of the performance. Peter Brotzmann is in top form. I’d say all of his sax playing is perfect from his virtuosic solos to his abrasive skronks, even though he doesn’t come in for the first hour. The one I find the most problem with here is actually Keiji Haino. Some of his vocal performances were surprisingly bad and did not fit the music like it normally does. Overall, this is a fantastic live album and must be heard by anyone with a passing interest in Haino or Brotzmann. The moment of silence before Brotzmann takes to the stage and the utter silence during his solos, followed by the incredible vocal improv chanting by the band about halfway through the second “track” is more or less the peak of music in general.

Um did someone say FISHMANS???

>Fishmans - Chappie Don’t Cry
>post-bop, grindcore, spermwave

Y’know this isn’t AS bad as I thought it was going to be. Maybe I’m a sucker for dub. It’s hard to fuck up really. The formula is simple but effective. However, there are some serious stinkers on here when the band tries to venture outside of dub and experiment (I use this term very loosely) with other genres. If anything, this makes me view their later material in a more positive light, because they clearly have grown as pop songwriters. Some of this shit is borderline offensively bland, like I’m listening to some no name j-rock group. But again, the overall experience is improved by some chill, easy-going dub, and the vocal performances are unique enough to keep me slightly engaged with what I’m hearing. It’s inoffensive at best and offensive at worst. If I were to listen to it again, I’d be skipping about half the album.

Lol there are a few reasons for this. I often get distracted by other music not on the chart. I like to listen to things multiple times before reviewing, and quite a few of these albums on here were very long and rather demanding. Also, I get too busy for new music sometimes or go on days where I'm not listening to music at all. That's why I normally don't do charts, but I like the format and the feeling of having completed something. I'll probably be more efficient in the summer.

Fugazi shelter dance with the indie freaks of the late 80s. MacKaye and Picciotto were aggressively male and frustrated without being aggressively heterosexual-- impressive, to say the least.

With their EP they joined the Arcade Fire, Aphex Twin, Kinsella project Hall of Fame. Their first track off their first big release would always be their most famous song. At least it's a doozy. People rave about 0:21-0:24 but 1:23-1:28 is real great too.

The strokes-presaging Bulldog Front. Maybe if Julian Casablancas was bullied in high school, he'd have fronted Fugazi and written this song.

So many questions about the Fugazi. Were they punk or indie a distinction that did not exist in 1988? They must be indie and here's why-- if they were produced differently, they'd be as big as the Offspring. NO punk band could ever be as big as the offspring. Also they'd been listenning to television with mixed results, you can totally tell. That's indie, not punk. Never forget that

The last minute of suggestion is one ofthe worst minutes on all the good-great canonical Eps. The other 21 minutes are bitching

People write differently. Most people compose paragraphs of serious thought with a topic sentence and three to five supporting sentences and then an optional concluding sentence. Others, unaware or suspicious of convention, write in an individualistic idiom. Does this mean they are not serious? It most certainly does not. Nietzche was grandiose in the extreme. Socrates did not write.

While my review may possess an idiosyncratic structure or contain little commentary on the artwork, it conveys teleologically my point of view.

>V/A - Basic Lucky Channel Vol 2
What was i expecting? What did i get? How did i find this?
A bunch of weebs decide to make music inspired on Basic Channel and use anime samples in the making. The first song however, which is called Consume Tsukasa is actually a parody of Ground Zero but with anime samples albeit equally as noisy. While this sounds like a fucking awful EP to most (not to me tho), i was actually surprised by the fact that it did not relay on novelty to sound good. On the contrary, ehat i got in this thing was probably some really fucking fresh dub techno tunes, of which none are more than inspired by Basic Channel, since i expected a parody album. The only track that is very very similar is the 3rd Track which sounds like Enforcement. However, even tho they are inspired by Basic Channel, the characteristic and esoteric atmosphere, and the darkness the german duo are incredibly good at doing, are changed and revised with a very lighthearted and kind of "cheesy" vibe. It's kind of like, marshmallow dub techno. All in all, very good listen, recommended to people interested in dub techno and weeb shit, and even co who is probably having an aneurysm rn.

$uccessor is bright universe R+7. (Spoiler alert: it's still the dark universe.) it's weird how many big names are on this thing, like DJ Shadow is on a track, and Active Child somehow. If you like ambient at all, give it a listen.

Paul Bley - Open to Love

For some reason I didn't really love this on the first listen, but after giving it another go I really enjoyed Paul Bley's playing. The whole thing is solo piano, which is a form of jazz that can be sort of hit and miss for me. I really love the way he strays from the melodies of each song into more avant-garde territory, then later brings them back. Ida Lupino is a stand out track, as well as the bluesy Harlem. I feel like the more I listen to this the more I would notice in the details of his playing. There are heaps of dissonant, close harmonies all over the album, but also a lot of really nice melodic lines. Also, singing along while improvising = real cool. 7+

Kenny Burell - Midnight Blue
>Soul Jazz, Hard Bop

Yup, sure is soul jazz. There’s some cool little moments and it’s got a nice little Grant Green vibe - but nothing much stands out. The atmosphere is cozy and Burell himself isn’t too shabby. Pleasant in the background but not really anything else imo. I’m a bit of a sucker for this sound though so I found myself digging it a fair amount. Pretty consistent for a soothing late night kinda jazz listen.

3/5

Sebadoh - Bakesale
>Lo-Fi Indie, Indie Rock

Why is this lo-fi style so damn hit or miss? I feel like I either absolutely love an album in this style - or it’s completely unforgettable. No middle ground. This felt like every other bedroom recorded grunge-influenced rock record honestly, it just had Dinosaur Jr’s name associated. Sure, the riffs are nice, there’s some fun punk/grunge influence and the lo-fi recording quality is cozy. But I can’t say I remember anything about this album aside from maybe “Dreams” and “Together Or Alone” which were tight little tracks. Everything else just blended together in a wave of distortion and angsty vocals. I’m gonna need to come back and see if my opinion changes - b/c these also happen to be growers. Pretty disappointed so far though.

Cause that's one album i owe a review to
Ura tamahime is, for those who don't know, the best live album ever. Fuck me, I've listened to a big chunk of jun's discography and none of it really captures the energy they got on that album. If you listen to the studio version of songs like Konchugun and Tamahime Sama you feel like while the production is better, they lack the energy. too much good stuff on this chart
>Aksak Maboul - Un Peu De L'ames Des Bandits
My only real knowledge of RIO comes from Henry Cow (In Praise of Learning is one of my favorite albums), so going into this I thought I had an idea of what it would sound like. Whereas In Praise of Learning starts with War, this album starts off with "A Modern Lesson". A jangley guitar and some incoherent french rambling with other random building instruments kick this entire thing off. And from there, you're off on a journey through lots of complex compositions, sounds, noises, tango songs, insane sax solos, weird rhythms, ominous atmospheres, and much more. The centerpiece of this album is the B-Side, a 23 minute long piece in 4 parts. I could compare this piece to the improvisations Henry Cow does, but I feel like this has much more structure and substance to it than Henry Cow's improvs. There's more depth to these tracks, and it makes it much more interesting to listen to. I do think that the A Side > B Side. In conclusion, I need to listen to more Rock in Opposition ASAP.
4.0+

>A Tribe Called Quest - People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm
I've never been super into ATCQ. I liked their last album a lot, and I like Low End Theory a lot, but I never really have a desire to listen to them. That's the same with this album. The beats are all very jazzy and fun, and everyone in the Tribe is a great lyricist individually. I like the interludes where Jarobi does his thing and introduces the next songs, but other than that, I don't have much more to say about this album. It's just more solid ATCQ, although I enjoyed Low End Theory and We Get It From Here... more.
3.0+

This show has had it's ups and downs, I think the plot is really creative but really have found myself how troupe-y samey it chooses to tell an otherwise kinda cool story.

Also, I hate how it's been handling episodes 12-15, but episode 14 made really good use of gamelan instruments to draw tension. Don't know if I'd rec this show to anyone who doesn't already LOVE anime but the things below surface level almost make it a worthwhile experience. Almost.

Psychedelic Ensemble - I Am… Reimagined
>Remix, Industrial Hip-Hop?

I was hoping for an Edan-y psych remix but instead got an industrial take on Nas ….Oh God why did I listen to this?

Basically just the I Am… (plus other Nas tracks) drenched in reverb/synths and given an industrial vibe. There’s glitchy synths, booming bass… everything that makes that industrial aesthetic. Listening to Nas’ rhymes in this atmosphere is incredibly bizarre, as his voice flows weird here. I kind of like it though, the rapping is less aggressive and forced than Ride or Dalek. And those samples sound so much heavier in the context. At the same time, Nas lacks that punk vibe that really makes this style so intense.

Interesting that they chose to remix this album because it often gets criticised for being too glossy and poppy. The resulting change is so off the wall and opposite that there’s some nice moments. “Ghetto Prisoners” sounds more like a revolutionary anthem in this context. “We Will Survive” has this howling, animalistic sample that just freaked me the fuck out. And Scarface and DMX over industrial beats? Lorrrd I didn’t they could sound any tougher.

Unfortunately, those are basically the only good parts of the album. Mobb Deep somehow manage to sound bad, and “Money Is My Bitch” feels even more derivative. Everything past “It’s Mine” is laughably terrible. Oh my god what are those horn samples on “Hate Me Now”? You need to keep them going for more than an eighth of a second and maybe keep them on beat? Or loop them on a semi-consistent basis? You can’t just throw notes into a song randomly and expect it to sound better. Christ.

Squeaks by Nastradamus but only because there’s no Toto sample.

Okay hold up.

Am I watching the right show even? Or, the right version I should be watching the first time around? I haven't read anything about episodes 12-17 (at least, that I've seen so far) being the SAME FUCKING EPISODE OVER AND OVER.

Is this a different version or something? I have literally watched the same episode with different animation for the equivalent of two hours now. What the hell.

Despite that, my point still stands. It's a really cookie cutter anime with a pretty interesting plot buried underneath, and I don't feel like digging is really rewarding. I'll probably have a stronger opinion once I finish it.

Also yeah Yuki a best.

Цyкop Бiлa Cмepть [Cukor Bila Smert] - Maнipнa Myзикa (Manirna Muzyka)
>Avant-Prog, Chamber Folk??? cheeki breeki

From the start, each instrument is trying to play the backing part of a different song, all at the same time, forcing dissonance out at a constant rate. Alone, each instrument plays their same measure of notes on a loop, Reich style.

The piano shuffles at its own pace, the keyboard is super fucking irritating, the guitar extremely sour, the cello's deep tones are held back by the lo-fi recording. The voice is at least tolerable, but I can't find any lyrics for the album anywhere.

And yet... it works. After feuding with each other in tracks like Slow Twist, the group is able to coalesce on a song like The Blue in small moments of emotion buried under hallucinations and nightmares. The instruments yield to each other for short duets and a quick breath of air-- even if the instrument itself is still irritating.

Six Coral Devils parts 1 through 6, the group seems to have a clearer image of what they want to produce besides nonsense. The Great Hen-Yuan River actually manages to be moving.

And as I near the end of the album, it's funny to note that the vocals are what stick out the most among the instrumentation. That may be either because I've gotten used to them, or they actually become less restless as the album ends. Antinoy is Leaving was a bit of a disappointing ending after all the choas of the first half.

I'd compare this to Ben Zimmerman - The Baltika Years, actually. If the tracks were recorded chronologically, it would show how the group was able to create tensions without having to all play at once, relying on each other and easing the reader through their songs.

Compulsory Pleasure - Timmy Sells His Soul
>Vocaloid Weebery, Future Funk, Post-post-jpop

The first track ("Live!") is a vascetomized PC Music single. Consumer Compassion samples the recognizable bass of Bee Gees's "Staying Alive" for a future funk oriented tune, to better effect than the first track. Blue Light District does the same with its sampling, and it's not the worst. And I the closer track probably uses the same program used for Puppycat, that one letdown of an online cartoon.

Oh and I must mention the japanese vocaloid singing this entire time during all the songs

It's actually neat when the voice disintegrates a bit on It's The Worst, but that's the only time it happens.

If it had taken a different direction with its vocals and emboldened the production to be thicker, this could have been something good.

okee i've been away from my computer all day so once again I had to rely on spotify, which of course meant that half the albums on the chart were nowhere to be found.

Laura Nyro - Christmas and the Beads of Sweat (1970)
>singer/songwriter, piano rock

Simultanously Nyro's subtlest and her most bombastic. Vocally it's still got shades of the wailing, theatrical vocalist present on Eli and the Thirteenth Confession, but Nyro sounds a whole lot more tired and beaten-down, seemingly unwilling to raise her famously passionate voice beyond a frail whisper. And this subtler approach to vocals works tremendously with the more emotional songwriting, filled mostly with piano ballads that rotate between delicate solo pieces to rollicking full-band jams. The full-band tracks are alright, but the solo pieces are among Nyro's best. For how subtle they are, every note just drips with emotion and sadness, she embraces a sound she'd only flirted with before and she completely perfects this. Very nice cap-off to one of the best musical trilogies in history.

3.0

Albert Ayler, Don Cherry, John Tchicai, Roswell Rudd, Gary Peacock, Sonny Murray - New York Eye and Ear Control (1966)
>free jazz

Just about what you'd expect from a free jazz collaboration with these names, and that's definitely a good thing. It's loose as fuck and it tends to retread the same territory pretty often, but it's wonderfully abrasive, and the fact that it's a collaboration in the truest sense really adds a lot. No particular performer is the leader, every instrumentalist has equal say and it all falls into place in a really interesting record.

Freddie Gibbs - You Only Live 2wice (2017)
>gangsta rap, trap rap

I'm glad to see Gibbs back, but he's not exactly in top form here. Well, as a rapper he's just as good as he ever was, his flow is still immaculate and I'll always love his ultra-gruff voice, but the beats here are just lame. "20 Karat Jesus" and "Andrea" bang, but the rest is just some pretty standard trap stuff, and the cloud rap excursions don't fare much better. Maybe I've just been spoiled by hearing Gibbs rap over Madlib beats, but even in the trap rap sphere he can do so much better than this, production-wise.

2.0+

Father John Misty - Pure Comedy (2017)
>singer/songwriter, piano rock, chamber pop

I don't even like this that much but I can still safely say this is the biggest surprise of the year for me. I fucking hate I Love You, Honeybear, and the fact that this has a much colder reception than it's predecessor didn't exactly give me high hopes for this, but for a modern take on '70s piano rock it's pretty competent and well-done. Misty's lyrics are mostly ostentatious and insufferable (the Taylor Swift line, maybe), but some tracks showcase some decent wordplay, and a few conscious tracks are admittedly decent. What majorly kills this album is how damn self-indulgent it is. The one good thing I can say about ILYH is that it's mostly concise, this is 74 minutes of mostly nothing. "Leaving LA", the thirteen minute centerpiece, is a horrendous track, and the whole album takes a bit of the nose-dive after that, but the first five or so songs are actually really quite good. The title track is an effectively showy Elton John homage with an incredible cathartic ending, and "Total Entertainment Forever", barring the /line/, is a super catchy pop tune. Cut this down by about half and you've got a fine album, but as is it's far too self-indulgent and over-the-top for its own good.

Vaperror - Acid Arcadia
>Acid House, Juke

I don’t know anything about either of these genres if I’m being honest but man this is a fun listen! The beats feel simultaneously wavy/synthy and speed-fueled dance music, which is a combination I found to be impressive. How these struck a balance like this is kinda astonishing. The bass kind of bubbles in the background, while 90s/vaporwave-y synths criss-cross in a start/stop, glitchy fashion. The drums absolutely rock on this. They’re energetic and fly through these tracks at an intense techno-y pace. Man, those drum breaks on “Error on the Drum Floor” and “Carbon Universe 1 / 2” are fucking terrrrific. And the 808s on “Press on” are such a nice touch. It feels like all the little details on here are on point, this dude knows how to throw together non-traditional sounds and make a catchy dance track.

Though the pace is off the charts, there’s a strange mellowness and balance to the whole parts of it, thanks to the synths imo. Hearing some of the little synth lines in earlier tracks keeps it more down-to-earth in a way and eases you into the listen. I never felt like I was just listening to a normal techno/house song at all.

Generic description but…. It sounds like someone from the modern era tried to reinvent what electronic producers thought music would be like in 2016. A lot of the whole nostalgia-driven vaporwave movement tries to pull this off and it usually feels embarrassing and corny. It works in a weird way here though, with the little computeristic elements reminding me of older computers without shoving the idea down my throat. Idk, I’m terrible at describing this and electronic music in general but this was tight. Pretty impressive, especially for a ~20 minute release.

>Cattle Decapitation - Humanure

I don't think it's possible for me to not love a Cattle Decapitation record. This is one that's considered one of their worst, with a straight up bad title and album art. Surely I'd dislike it right? Again, I just couldn't. Travis has in my eyes perfected deathgrind vocals, with the multiple layers containing highs and lows, and the choppiness of an extremely angry person ranting manically. It just sounds so perfect, and it's never relenting. Yeah it's overly edgy, sure it's not an "intellectual album", but fuck it's just really enjoyable.

It's one of the most variable and unique experiences for a punk album. It succeeds at being eclectic and wild and yet cohesive-feeling. On top of that, there's plenty of catchy songs for it.

It's definitely not everyone's thing, especially if you find that you're usually not into punk/post-punk/cow-punk. I'm sure no one will judge you if you just be honest because there's plenty people here who also don't really care for it.

Фёдopoв, Boлкoв, Кypaшoв - Зимы нe бyдeт (2000) - Some nice avant-folk playing, really nice sound, all those instruments work great with those melodies and his voice. My favourite songs were Chto-nibud’ takoe and Daleko, which were also on his first album, although I actually preferred the simpler versions of them from his first album. Really enjoyable record with interesting sounds and great melodies.

Pete Seeger - If I Had a Hammer (1998) - Nice compilation of his songs, although like most compilations it is a bit long, although you don’t really feel it because the songs are rather short and pretty goood. His lyrics are quite important here, but the music is pretty good too. 4.0

Big Bill Broonzy - Big Bill Broonzy Sings Folk Songs (1962) - Great songs, good guitar playing, good voice. 3.5

John Renbourn - John Renbourn (1966) - Very good guitar playing, it’s also very influential and all of that, but honestly it was a bit boring after a while, especially after listening to other folk albums before. Perhaps it could be caused by the fact that I was listening to lots of folk beforehand. 3.0

Krokodil - An Invisible World Revealed (1971) - Progressive rock from Germany, from the seventies. It’s not like you can go wrong with something like this. Recommended if you’re a fan of krautrock, although it’s not that krautrocky, but still there is a bit of experimentation. 3.5

Brainticket - Psychonaut (1972) - I feel like I’m falling in love with krautrock again, it was one of those genres that I started listening to when I got more into music, after discovering /mu/. This one has really nice drumming, like all great krautrock albums, there are bits of folk influence and the album has this easy, pleasant feeling. It’s also quite short. 3.5

Fugg, I haven't gone through even half of this chart and I already want to listen to something else, it probably wasn't a good idea to make such a big chart with folk only. I'll probably make two other charts, one for 2017, and one for other things, and keep the third one relatively small.

Thread a dead.

Working on my new chart now. Pick out recs from this list you want to see me do:
https://rateyourmusic.com/collection/I_AM_FISH/stag/to+do/1

OR: If you have a rec that you REALLY think I should do, then feel free to shout it out to me. I might not do it if it doesn't look interesting to me, but there's always a chance right? ;) I'm looking for something that would make me say "Wow, why didn't listen to this earlier?". If you wanted to rec me something but didn't for whatever reason now's your chance.

Any rec from my to do is guaranteed to get on the chart though.

Side note: As fast as I do my backlog, it actually typically grows faster than shrinks which is equally exciting as it is discouraging.

>amnesia scanner - AS truth
bored me quite a bit, mainly due to the totally cheesy production choices. some of the synth sounds are generic spookydark without any real nuances in texture. the compelling musical moments are few and far between, and at its best, it's only mildly engaging. still not BAD, just not my cup o tea.

He could do it on /pol/ where it belongs, Nixon in China isn't about communism.

I was hoping for more semi trashy bangers based on Humble. Only good slow song was Fear. But I was never a fan of Kendrick anyway and I only like his jazzy production on tpab
