Why force yourself if you don't enjoy something? SBG is a great entry tier album, even though it's more thrashy, but still kicks ass. You've heard Possessed's Seven Churches, right? Obituary's Slowly We Rot and Cause Of Death are also worth checking out as far as entry tier albums go, so is Suffocation's Pierced From Within.

Anyone not get the appeal of older heavy metal?
I grew into it around the time Sepultura became big, and listened to stuff like that, Korn, Fear Factory, Slavland, Arkona, Equilibrium. Now I got a guitar myself and when researching metal you get all these older, praised bands. Gave all the classics like Kiss, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and so on a listen and I don't like it in the slightest. Can this really be called the same genre?

Hear me out, /metal/.

The most revolutionary metal album will be like if someone threw old Slayer, Cannibal Corpse, Throbbing Gristle and SPK albums into a blender.

Not some Godflesh shit, but really fast blast beat happy death/thrash ridden with really fucked up samples and musique concrete soundscapes bridging each metal track...sometimes in-between an actual song too.

BABYMETAL is a good start with new takes on metal, but whoever makes this Industrial Death/Thrash thing will be king.

Axis Of Perdition was more of a Silent Hill kinda thing...plus some of the sound mixing on their albums are utter ass. Not really what I was looking for.

Not familiar with Blacklodge, however...but again that's a Black Metal thing. I'm craving a death/thrash sort of thing, actually.

>Your vision is as narrow as your arsehole isn't.

Not executed in the way I crave for at all, man. I'm not narrow minded, its just that a lot of the examples i've heard of "Industrial Death/Black Metal" doesn't do it for me. Doesn't hit that sweet spot of metal madness and aural terror.

>>72241272
In this context, it does. You're using your weakass argument to somehow prove that my point about originality in the visual arts department of metal has gone to hell the past decade and a half is moot since that's the way it's always been, which it isn't. Maybe you're just confused as to what derivative means (cue googling it up and concoting a definition that suits your interests)
>>
>>72241304
what argument you aut? it's a statement that reiterates yours except not as cynically reductive

do you not agree that art is ultimately derivative? (note to remove any value-judgement from 'derivative')
>>
>>72241389
>what argument you aut?
None, really. Because you never had one:
>>72241170
See how you reduced my argument to a ridiculously simple, easily proven wrong sentence that isn't even in the original post? That's a fallacy, not an argument
Then:
>>72241389
>do you not agree that art is ultimately derivative?
No. You can only say that with any residue of seriousness if you prefer reductios to analysis. Everything comes from something, that is, in itself, true. But there's a difference between lineal developement, which looks a lot like evolution (tiny changes over long periods of time), and derivative art, which is uninspired art that's lazily and purposedly an imitation of something that's already established, much like those shitty album covers we were making fun of.

In short, what you did was imply that there is equal merit in art learning from art and changing to produce something new (even if nothing can be 100% new because in order to do so you'd need to create an entire universe from nothingness, which as you might be able to tell is ridiculous) than there is in just redoing what's been done and, *maybe*, change the colour palette.

Art is not derivative, it's evolutionary, just like everything else that develops naturally.

it sounds so dated, why would you listen to it?
>>
>>72241496
so this spawns because you take derivative in some sort of technical sense instead of an x derives from y (>>devoid of value judgement<< """[uninspired art that's lazily and purposedly an imitation]""")

ok. most chasms of understanding can be bridged by seeking to define terms but I still think you mistook smoke for fire because I never suggested a rigorous argument

>>72241763
Yeah, you say that. I get that. It's just not true.
>>
>>72241665
how is that a loose definition at all, like I'm sincerely curious what you would personally use there then (in terms of [Everything comes from something] but somehow taking issue with derivative for some added connotation?)
>>
>>72241770
ok. Not most revolutionary metal album, but at least most infamous. Not enough metal is scary these days.

Going back to Axis of Perdition, my problem is that they're more in the Lustmord darkwave vein than first wave Industrial.
>>
>>72241771
In its loosest sense, "derivative" does mean "it derivates from something else", but it's a term used to mean, pejoratively, "imitative of already existing work". That's the way normal people use the word. Again, you seeked the easiest, looses definition to fit your interests.
>>72241789

Word of advise: Cut down on the big word spewing. It might technically work in your posts right now, but only after figuring out exactly how one should eschew the definitions for them to work in this context.

Also no one, I mean no one on this board (and, I suspect, real life) has ever used this sentence in earnest. It makes you come off as an arsehole who's only in it for the thrill of cheap internet bickering instead of someone who is actually looking to be "enlightened"
>>
>>72241936
i think you're just used to it being used in that manner because everyone on the internet argues over every little thing to insulate and shore up their egos.
>>

of course I'm being ironic but I suspect you really might be on the spectrum unless you're 2 levels ahead of me right now because we both know that the irony should be self-evident. There is nothing you've said to suggest that art being derivative doesn't work otherwise but I really was curious.

Exactly.

There's so many really odd examples of Industrial Metal that it doesn't really reflect what I think of Industrial music and what I think of metal.

Too many of it is too dancy, too electronic and or just not hard hitting enough. Some excellent shit exist (Ministry's later albums, Fear Factory, Godflesh, early Pitchshifter, Anaal Nathrakh, the first Colour Trip album, Kreator's Renewal album and SYL),but most of it leaves a lot to be desired.
