is it possible to distort guitars in a mixing program? i'm poor as fuck right now and am wanting to do some music because it helps with my anxiety. no money for distortion pedals though so i was wondering - can i record something, like a guitar sample onto my phone, then transfer it to a mixer and use a built-in distortion control on the mixer? is this possible? any help would be appreciated and pic not related

k, so, is there anyway i can do what i mentioned above or no?
Yeah. There are effects you can use on audio within programs, including distortion. It's the same way people usually add reverb and delay on vocals. If you buy an interface with a hole for a guitar cable you can also just record straight into your computer like that, and put the effects on before or after the recording.
