Even I know that it's nonsense to say that they're more acclaimed (universally) than the Gas works. I wouldn't say they're more unique either; just different in their own respects. This is fucking amazing, I can't believe he went back to that dark Zauberberg sound (which was my favorite out of his old 3 albums), but it works so well and still manages to sound like its own thing.
The drones are denser too, almost aggressive at some points. A lot more loops that seem to fade in and out from all sides, giving it a really thick sound.

Since some of you seem to be having trouble

This new Gas record is excellent btw

>7 was the only one I didn't really dig, I felt like it went on for too long without really changing at all. My favorites were 2, 4, and 10 (what a finale, the way those hi-hats slowly reveal themselves)
This is EXACTLY how I feel. Seriously, try Ruckverzauberung if you haven't
>>
So what's with the 71 minute vinyl-only track, just a continuous mix or something more?

>>72202848
In a recent interview Voigt said the old albums were "objectively terrible", referring to the sound quality but it just made me think of shitposting.
>>
>>72202868
>muh wind noises
>muh cheesy planetarium synths
Trve ambient fags are the worst.
2814 isn't even ambient, it's downtempo.

please be in NYC because I will fucking fight you...
>>
>>72203054
Underrated if you're here from reddit, sure.
>>
am i the only one who got into Gas because of Visiting Friends off of Sung Tongs?
>>
>>72203075
Jokes on you I actually live in the south

I was kind of shitposting because I respect Roach, but Substrata is one of the most overrated albums in history. Nothing interesting going on, just random field recordings (which kind of kill the "meditative ambient album" thing) and drones that vary too much to give the album a sense of cohesion

It's a lot like the last track he put out as Gas, Die Wand

Another anon said that Narkopop is like Ruckverzauberung with a beat, which Die Wand actually is.

The song "Visiting Friends" was influenced by Kompakt’s Pop Ambient compilations and Wolfgang Voigt’s project Gas. It was meant to be "like a wall of hums [...], but with acoustic guitars."[4]
looked up the song because I loved it so much, listened to pop because it was the supposed influence and fell in love

>Substrata is one of the most overrated albums in history

Listen to the rest of Biosphere's discography, realize that he is the greatest ambient artist who ever lived, then revisit Substrata and realize that it is his magnum opus
>>
>>72202911
I'll check that out, I've always been meaning to get into his other projects but never knew where to start
>>
>>72203326
Listen to the live album, it's basically a mix comprising most of the tracks in the series
>>
This seems like a constructive thread, so
can someone recommend me some more ambient/dub techno with really heavy bass and repetitive rhythms like this? I've been listening to Porter Ricks' Biokinetics and some Vladislav Delay, but after skimming through the RYM essentials I haven't found anything that really grabs me.
>>
>>72203504
Have you checked out all the albums in the Chain Reaction catalogue? Some good stuff there cat
>>
I've been distracted all day I still haven't listened to it
The rar file doesn't even dl
>>
>>72203504
I imagine you already found Deepchord, but in case you didn't give him a try

Appreciate it, I'll check out Monolake when I get home
>>
>>72203657
yeeess good choice - Hong Kong, CINEMASCOPE, etc. are tops.
>>
>>72203653
DeepChord and Yagya are better than Gas in my opinion
>>
>>72203688

Yagya had one exceptional album and that's it.
>>
>>72203717
He has two 10/10 albums and two 9/10 albums.
>>
I love the forest blended with the man made structures in the album art. Matches the music perfectly.
>>
>>72203108

Aw cmon, don't be that way little buddy.
>>
>>72192855
Splazsh is his best, AZD is his best since then but still not really close to as good
>>
The style is a lot like Zauberberg but the sounds and immersive-ness are god tier. It lived up to 17 worth of wait and is worthy of being top in the 2010s already.
>>
>>72203688
No way dude. Yagya has 1 great album and a good one and Gas has 4 great ones.
