They're definitely "albums" and not just a ragtag collection of singles. Now their first one, whatever. The rap verse on Dirty Harry was earned I think. The song sets the listener up with its satirical take on glamorizing war before the rap verse comes in and rains on the parade. It's in your face but it feels a bit smarter about it than Humanz, which seems cranked up to 11 from the word "go". The only other instance of flagrant politics I can immediately think of on Demon Days is the chorus bit on the title track which is admittedly cheesy. That notwithstanding, I think the album as a whole did a decent job of not beating the listener over the head by burying it all under a sort of dystopian, "last people on earth" loose narrative that distances the politics to an extent.

I liked Plastic Beach on release. Stylo did have to grow on me at first but I was cool with the album proper from day 1. All of these singles are cringefests at worst and flimsy Gorillaz rehashes at best. Plastic Beach avoided that deftly by straight up not being a trip hop record. Aside from some vaguely spacey themes and instrumentals there's nothing going on in these songs that Gorillaz hasn't already done before and done better.
