I've started collecting old Christian fundamentalist preachings and recordings for sampling purposes.
Here are a few I bought recently, "The Big Beat, A Rock Blast" is probably my favorite. It is some school music director absolutely losing it in front of a church about how Rock music is destroying our youth.

I also have a sizable VSH collection of what I call "rare media", on the related topics also for sampling.

Chattanooga TN. These kinds of records are not hard at all to find in the South, I just like collecting them because I know there is no copy or info online about them, I am like the only person in the world who might knowingly have a copy a record.

But ya, they are all pretty much worthless, but some are fantastic for sampling.

Is 3 grams too heavy of a tracking force?

I have this stylus for my old AT39 cartidge; the recommendation weight is 1.5 to 2.5 grams, however on some albums it seems to track A LOT better with 3 grams. Thoughts?
>>
No photo, but i have over 600 LPs, recently bought Donuts, the EP edition, my first Led Zepellin LP, Led Zepellin II, Aquemini and a bunch of African shit, vinyl to sample from and shit.

Probably spent 3 or 4 times as much as you, because Argentina has some terrible economy. Records that are 1 dollar everywhere else, are 5 dollars here. 20 dollars records are from 40 to 60 dollars. Paid the equivalent of 31 dollars for Led Zepellin, 60 for Aquemini.

I've never understood the appeal of vinyl, other than collector's value. Is there really any? Because I've had people IRL try to tell me there is.
>>
>>72152868
It's like having a book collection, at least from my own experience.
>>
>>72152868

As someone who pirates music, it's the best way to get those releases you love the most imo.

It's not like vinyl is a primary form of listening nowadays, but it's cozy to chill at home while listening to them.
>>
>>72153219
I'm specially interested in vinyl vs CD quality. I've heard that CDs have the capability for higher quality than vinyl, and the parts that vinyl has an advantage in are inaudible to the human ear, but I've also heard that companies will sometimes use higher quality masters for vinyls than CDs. Is this true? And, if so, how often does it happen?
>>
>>72153324

If the labels are truly interested in vinyl quality, a different mastering is made for the format, along with the CD/digital mastering. But I believe most of the time they do a general mastering for both vinyl and CDs.

In the worst cases, they literally rip a commercial CD and use that to cut vinyl, which mostly happens to reissues.

As someone who collects vinyl, the sound quality is the last thing one would expect from them. This kind of thought comes from the fact that original vinyl releases from the golden days sound much better than the posterior CD re-releases, due to the fact that the early tape transfers do digital were faulty at some degree.
>>
>>72151745
What about Fashion Show / Interview 2016?
>>
>>72153438
What about modern releases? And around when did CD transfers become better?
>>
>>72153324
Vinyl is just more "fun".

Big art, lots of new vinyl has crazy colours and the whole process makes you feel more involved with the music if that makes sense.
>>
>>72153536
Ah. So what I'm getting from this is
Old albums: vinyl > CD quality wise
New albums:CD >vinyl quality wise?

I don't disagree with you, there is a lot of that going around here and on /mu/ in general. I guess just don't feel the need to perpetuate it? Treating everyone on here at that level is a rather jack ass move. Did you post a collection yourself? Did you just come into the vinyl thread to shitpost because you have factual evidence that everyone here is exactly the same person?
>>
>>72166047
Looks a bit stuffed in there is my guess but Im not him. Not sure what his exact problem is
>>
>>72166047
They tend to lean on each other more and it can cause damage to the vinyl, it's a nit-picky comment but the best way to store them is upright in a proper box not straight down in a crate.

>>

>>72166114

Nah, not nitpicky. I'm just asking for myself, because I don't have many vinyls, but I'm looking for some good ways to store them in the future if my collection happens to get bigger. I was actually considering crates at first.
>>
>>72166129
Feel free to bust man, but just try to be more intelligently worded. If you have an opinion, and EVERYONE here does, at least have solid ground to stand on. Don't just start tossing ignorant self important insults where your opinion gets people pissed the fuck off.
You know people are going to react before listening to what you really had to say, so why bother? Unless you just want the backlash that is currently happening.
>>
>>72166166
Crates of a kallax shelf if youve got the right amount will do you fine
>>
>>72166166
ahh werd, well I have 4 boxes that store quite a bit that I love (I actually need a new one) the idea is that you put enough records in each one that there is a little bit of give so you can pull one out easily but not TOO much give that they lean.
You also dont want to stuff the boxes as that can cause damage.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000O1FROO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

this is the one I use, its great and a good price on prime.
>>
>>72166190
Lol I mean yeah I think it's funny that nobody had anything to say back about what I posted and just went full ad hom. Like, I waste money on records too, you can make fun of me for it. I have a pretty good sense of humor about what I shell out. I just dont get people posting reissues and stuff you see all the time in used bins.
>>
>>72166273
Truth, I mean I just realized my username is not up there fuck. I'm Atomizzk, just fixed it. And I know that MOST of my stuff would be considered shit but I like what I like. I think there are those people who just want to post to get HONEST feedback or to find people with similar interest. There will always be that ego stroke thing going though.

Is it worth upgrading from my Pioneer PL-518 to a 'modern" table like a U-Turn or Debut Carbon? The dadrockers on the Vinyl section of reading are trying to tell me so. I was under the impression that turntables from the late 70s early 80s blow modern turntables under $1000 out of the water.

Pic related, it's my PL-518

I've been wanting to into vinyl, I live in basically the middle of nowhere, there are no record stores near me. Is buying stuff online a viable way to start collecting? I've always heard it's best to stick to local shops and only buy the things you really want online. Do online shops still do Record Store Day shit?

Idk about RSD but online is a good place to start. RSD is more about the actual brick and mortar stores. Discogs is a good place to start for online or the artists website.

Not that anon, but is the LP 5 better enough than the LP 120 to switch?
I have a not yet installed needle upgrade, rubber slipmat, heavier counterweight, and plan on removing the pre-amp, but not if I'd just be shooting my chances to sell it and upgrade in the foot (and it's worth upgrading).
>>
>>72173567
If you need a turntable then basically $100 if you're lucky, but as far as random records go usually like $5-$20 is a good range, most of them should be under $10 though.

Picked up a beat up pair of JBL L20T's. They're fantastic little speakers, apparently- very flat frequency response and great sound. Tweeters are blown, so I'll have to buy another pair off of eBay. Luckily somebody makes modern reproductions.

Once they're functional again I'll probably work on restoring its cosmetics. The wood veneer has cracked off in places. Overall, not bad for nine bucks.
