My dad was a huge J Geils Band fan. He first saw U2 open for them long back when they were small time in the early 80s.
Sad.

They may have went in a more pop direction when they signed to EMI, but they were a kickass boogie/blues rock/rhythm and blues band in the late 60s and throughout the 1970s:

Nice dubs. Really singer Peter Wolf and the keyboardist were the stars of the band, but still... Also, as >>72113872 pointed out they were one of the few bands that U2 supported. I think U2 were the support on the American leg of the J Geils Band.
>J. Geils
Could this be a JoJo reference?

Yeah, in the early 80s, in America U2 was the opener for J Geils and the Police and the Talking Heads, while in the UK and Ireland and parts of Europe, Mission of Burma and This Heat and The Alarm.
