Flood is one of the great contemporary albums. Just shrugging it off as /mu/core trash is making a mistake.

Again, I don't think that Boris is some sort of GOAT metal group. Flood just turned out very very very well due to a tight thematic focus and excellent and creative production. No other Boris album comes even close to it.

there are like 3 "riffs" on the entire album and the heavy section lasts for about 5 minutes. however good you think it is, it's a lot closer to post-rock than metal so saying it was some sort of blessing to the genre is silly

anyway i like it but the extended lp version of pink is my favourite boris. you should check out isis - panopticon if you haven't already

Some innovation is required to make great art. Extreme refinement and can be an innovation as well, just look at Dylan. Artists can also grow old and just get stale. Also look at Dylan. I don't think anyone would consider Motörhead some sort of GOAT band. They're good for some lighthearted enjoyment, but I don't think any idea can be interesting for 40 albums.

This is not to say that metal is somehow a bad. Pretty much every genre is 95% terrible.

Yet a lot of people show appreciation for them, whether they have a solid musical background or not
You seem to judge the quality of the music solely on innovation, which is a mistake in itself, music doesn't have to be original to sound good, and music isn't automatically good as long as what is played has never been done before
Apart from that, you may have forgotten one important factor which is the timeline in which motorhead started making music
name one single band before them that had this typical heavy, grunting sound they have.

>You seem to judge the quality of the music solely on innovation,
Wrong. I don't even think Flood was that innovative, they're exactly what you're describing - they took a pretty established sound and added a strong thematic focus.

I mean, novelty is important, but it's not the end-all-be-all. I enjoy some fairly derivative albums as well and consider them great.
>Apart from that, you may have forgotten one important factor which is the timeline in which motorhead started making music
Influential album=!Automatically good

I don't doubt they were very important to metal 's development in the beginning, but that doesn't mean that they shouldn't try to change their sound over time or at least try new and interesting things.

In the first minute of Flood I
1) The theme of the song is introduced with the ambient rain noise in the background
2) The click of the record player starting makes for a great production joke (and also adds a third texture to the ambient background)
3) The main motif of the piece is introduced, combined with an echo-y, distinct production.

Everyone here are nu-males and every band mentioned here is for nu-males, anon. The auto-contrarian nature of /mu/ makes it so that insults are quickly established as the new status quo. Asking if something is for nu-males is the same as asking if /mu/ approves. The bait chart that's just a bunch of popular metal albums with no rhyme or reason is proof of this.

There are thousands of songs that follow that structure. I can only think of a handful of albums with the amount of attention to detail as Flood.
>>72112132
In the second minute, the main motif is expanded on and the the echo-y duplication effect is slowly introduced. This proceeds to slowly build up for a few minutes. The overlapping of the riff creates some really interesting textures. Listen to how the decay transitions into the attack in differing ways when the speed of the riff increases. Then, at around the 6th minute, the main precussion is introduced. And slowly developed until 10-ish minutes. From there the nature of the extremely heavy precussion its pretty obvious and should be able to hold the attention of pretty much everyone.

The first half is essential to the chaos of the second half of Flood I. To appreciate the full fury of the storm, you have to hear it build up and cease.

Don't give up. III will click first, then IV, then II, then I. Engage with the album. Listen to what's there. Give it an hour of your attention. Let your mind wander through what the music makes you feel - what it sounds like. Imagine what you hear. If you listen to field recordings, the process is kind-of similar, but instead of actual nature sounds, it's conveyed through rock instrumentation.

In my opinion, the textures created by the duplication effect are uninteresting and don't play into the greater picture by progressing the musical narrative.

Flood II is a little bit better, but the guitar work is really uninteresting and bland, and goes on for far too long. The build up is pretty sweet, but couldn't it have been done is a much shorter time, so I wouldn't have to endure the absolutely plain and unoriginal guitar work?

my negro I understand you though I cut it at age 25, had it long for exactly 10 years by then
can't even tell how many girls I met and fucked thanks to it
sadly it started to thin out in the back and in the front so I just said fuck it and went weekly buzzcut ever since. a man has got to have some dignity.

sad thing is that I finally found an actual serious band after that and now we are gigging weekly and I am pretend-headbanging with bald head while everyone else in the band is longhaired

I did get over it kinda quickly though. I was obsessing over it far more while it was still long.
