>>

What's the fucking point? If you want a "metal" guitar, buy a Charvel or an Ibanez. If you want a Telecaster, get one with a proper Tele bridge pickup.

Fretting hand still looks fine to me.
Is it using one finger for each fret? Is it what youre talking about? I dont do that cause i prefer not to, and see no problem on it.

>Eddie vedder? That's what you're playing.
No, what im playing is Clapton, Page, Hendrix stuff. Eddie Vedder is I V VI IV stuff (society f ex).

>All you're doing is running up and down scales then playing the root at the end plus using some cliche hammer on stuff.
Scales up and down is not all thats on that video

>How about Chopin, mozart and Paganini.
Good idea. I'll consider looking classical up though i dont feel motivated to.

>Put down, the electric, pick up a nylon and then you're forced to become good at the instrument.
I have a cheap nylon laying around, where i do almost all of my practice and playing besides recording.

>But seriously, take a step back take some beginner lessons you need them I think you could really really really really benefit
pls tell what aspects of the playing are these

>>72089841
>knuckles looked like they were at 90 degree angles
Isnt it how its supposed, the correct technique? I played more parallel to the fretboard before, and after i worked on fretting with the tips the playing got easier and cleaner

>You could use some fingering guides, just check youtube for it
whats that about

>try to keep your thumb in the middle of your guitar's neck, it helps with reach, when you start moving around faster.
Yeahh. I realized i had to do that when i started playing scale runs and trying to play faster. see https://youtu.be/3U8qPR3PB9Q

I'm interested in this. I am looking for a pick that will last longer than nylon but has similar flexibility. doesn't have to be exactly the same or anything, but it'd be nice to not have to go to a very much thinner pick to get the level of flex I like. I was thinking of getting the new tortex flex picks.

>>
>>72095690
why you contoured a body
>>
>>72095690
to add to this, it looks like you could take a bit from the back of the body still, leaving the neck mostly alone, if it isn't quite comfy yet.
>>
I WANNA HOLD YOUR HAND
>>
>>72095462
no real shortcut, just start with songs that have easier strumming patterns. I'm still not at the point where I could really play lead licks and sing, but not many can.

when you get into more complex strumming/vocal patterns, break down the words and strumming pattern that is tripping you up specifically. try to find a rhythm within what's tripping you up and practice over and over

I have a tele that I play all the time, people here may be familiar with it, and I decided I wanted a small tummy cut and forearm contour. I ended up with a small contour in each position which to me is more comfortable then the dramatic contours on my jazz bass. I was a bit concerned about how the contour itself looked, but someone here suggested to keep it small.
>>
>>72095249
well accept partially responsibility first. have the self-respect to speak up for yourself next time. all you have to tell them is that you don't think it's working out and you'll never have to play with them ever again
>>
>>72095766
How I got into it was just playing the root note of each chord on the 1st beat while singing. then moved on to the root on each half note, then quarter. then with a power chord. then with full chords. It's not that hard when you get used to it, but you will find some rhythms are very hard to play while singing, which is why bass is often more difficult to play while singing.

And they like "idk sounds good to me"

Or guy 1 is playing an Amaj7 and guy 2 is playing a full Bminor. I know rules are meant to be broken but slamming all the white keys doesn't sound good.

You might be able to ask someone about that.

It was a once in a lifetime thing, I blew it by trying to incorporate too many different sounds. And I was too anal about a lot of things, probably. It is unbelievably hard finding talented people, I have no idea how so many bands get to the point of playing shows.

We played probably a half dozen or a dozen shows in town. I got the first one from an event where the bar had a full band open mic, kind of like a talent scout thing. The good bands got booked a show at the same bar later. We got paid for most of them, I think we split 250$ between three of us at the most.

Thanks for the input. Do you have any advice if I'd like to start a band when I go to school this fall? I've never really been in a legitimate band before. The closest I've been is playing in a "band" with two of my friends for our high school talent show. We had five days to pick a song, practice it enough, and then try out. Still not really sure how we did it.
>>
>>72096739
Find a good space to play as soon as you can and spend as much time there with people as you can. Some dude's parent's garage is ideal but otherwise there could be buildings on campus that spend most of the time unused. Fr those you gotta make some bullshit club or campus police might harass you. My school was a pain in the ass but hopefully yours is cool about it.

Try making an ad. Getting members for the subgenre you want might be difficult depending on your city but I managed to do it once. People are very very flakey so I guess you have to make a really good impression. People will respond and not even own an amp or a drum kit. A lot of them won't have a place to practice or transportation.

I impressed a drummer guy I met on kijiji with my playing and he called up his friend who plays bass. It's a crapshoot, really. I haven't been able to write the kind of music I want again because I'm too picky and or maybe I'm worse than I think I am. The good news is it's a lot of fun when it goes well. Crushing a set or a new part that sounds really good coming out of nowhere bring plenty of good vibes. Occasionally you might even get genuine sounding compliments from an audience member. All I can really tell you is it might be really hard to start out.

Good luck out there, anon.

Is there a website that offers worldwide shipping that's cheaper than Aliexpress?

I need to buy 3 Stratocaster copies that have the correct headstock shape and 22 fret maple fretboards but I don't want to spend $400+ on them. Would be nice if I could find them at like $70 each or at least less than $100.

They don't even have to be quality instruments, I'll set them up after I'm done modding them.

>>
>>72096921

>>
>>72096922
Thanks, nonanon. One of the things I'm worried about currently is my guitar playing ability and in turn my songwriting ability. I don't really know any theory and my guitar playing is kind of mediocre. I can play chords and barre chords, I know like a single scale and that's about it. Whenever I pick up my guitar to try and write something, it usually sounds pretty generic or I'll only write one riff and never go anywhere with it. I'm pretty confident in my singing, I mean I'm not the biggest fan of my voice but I've had a lot of compliments every time I've sang in front of people. This is really gonna be my first time being away from home in a somewhat bigger city so I'm going to try to make the best of it. I figure if there was ever gonna be a time to start a band, it would be at university.
>>

Yeah in that track it's just a simple B power chord. You can pick the same chord on different parts of the neck to get different ringing overtones which is what causes that oscillation effect in the high end. You can also very slightly detune your chord to get the same effect in the lower pitches. Any chord works.

Hi anons, I'm from russian speaking country (Belarus). Are you mostly americans? It's super interesting for me, what kind of rock music is popular now in USA or in the west in general? I thought some time ago stoner rock or some kind of it was popular (inb4 welcome to early 90s). When I say "some kind" I mean I think Baroness, Red Fang and Mastodon have some stoner rock influences. What about now? Or is this thread full of jazz players?
>>
>>72101451
Rock really isn't that popular tbqh. Just look at the lineups for festivals like Coachella, Pitchfork,Lollapalooza etc to see what types of bands are actually "popular". Metal bands from all subgenres have a decent following like always, for the past couple of decades that remains mostly static but none of those bands ever get really big.

Don't know what to say. It was fantastic and very popular band in 80's, but now it mostly hated by modern young people. I don't think that you will be impressed by its music. But always remember that huge part of their songs were texts that were all about the spirit of that time.
Also I like Korol i Shut (King and Jester or something like this) and it's basically folk-punk.

I set the Z-axis to 0.19 for a piece of cardboard that was 0.29 inches thick. The manual is kinda vague on what the Z-axis control actually does, so it's possible that it should have collided with the cardboard and damaged the tip. Luckily, due to a firmware bug, as soon as I started the path it nosedived the tip directly into the metal honeycomb cutting surface without even reaching the part.

How consistently should I be playing something before I increase the speed?

>>
>>72105663
I do this to get more out of my amp. Basically you boost a frequency before the preamp, then cut it equally or slightly less in the FX loop, which changes the distortion characteristics of your amp. You can also do the reverse of this if you have a frequency or certain notes that are getting too distorted. For example, if you want your low notes to be fuzzy for power chords but your high notes to be clear, you can accentuate this(though naturally lower frequencies distort sooner anyway).

A more practical example is when playing barre chords with distortion, you may want the 3rd on the G string or B string to be more audible. You can push this range with a little tweaking without your E string becoming too piercing.
>>
>>72095325
I have a mexi jazz and after I set it up, it's my favorite bass. Get one that feels nice in your hands and is comfortable to play. Later you can supe it up after you've decided you like it.
>>
>>72105722
First off, pressing hard will always bend the note. You should be sure you're in tune when pressing just hard enough to get a clear tone. Adjust your saddles until this is the case.

If you take your guitar to a luthier for this you're a fucking baby. You need to be able to do this yourself.

I had a .12 set once. Was pretty fun but I went back to normal gauges after.
>>
>>72105798
Would I need to place the second EQ after the amp with the FX loop, or can I just run one at the very beginning of the chain and one at the end of my distortion pedals?
>>
>>72105859
I currently use a .145 string.
>>
>>72105882
That would work to change the response of your distortion pedals.
>>
>>72105923
So if I want it as a general EQ of my sound I need to run it after the amp. Should I run all my effects pedals after the EQ or keep them before the amp?

Also, will a loop pedal work placed after the amp, because I always keep it at the end of the chain, just before the amp.

Anyone have any good slide books/pdfs/links?
>>
>>72105523

i sort of agree. i think the amps are pretty great but their cabs not so much. however I only used their cabs up to amplitube 3. I saw that they did some new shit for a while now with amplitube 4 but idk if it's any good.

regardless, i've been using the amplitube orange pack while loading red wirez impulses and having a blast, shit sounds great.

protip: Learn to play slide in standard tuning. Much more difficult to find chords and damp out unwanted strings at first but once you figure it out you can go from fretted to slide immediately, no retuning, no second guitar.
>>
>>72105975
you can put the looper wherever you want and it will work, the difference will be if activating or deactivating a pedal affects only the new input or affects the recorded loop.

You should generally put your effects in front of the amp unless you want to keep them from being distorted by your preamp. This can be good or bad for many effects depending on what you want to achieve. Chorus for example can sound good both before and after the preamp.

To clarify what I am saying about the use of EQ, changing your EQ before the amp will change the response whatever method you use, the idea of the boost/cut method is to change the response with less effect on the EQ. So you can be a little more dramatic with your boosts without getting difficult to balance tone.

Because your amp probably has the EQ already, you can still boost/cut with one EQ pedal, it's just harder to do.

Yeah, or you know, use a tuning that actually lets you play chords. Single note soloing on slide isn't even good.
>>
>>72106101
what they did to amplitube 4 was that you can swap speakers on the cabs
like putting a greenback or v30 on a tweed deluxe cab
and you can put effects on the amps loop

i didnt hear that much a difference on the tone itself but i aint did no actual comparision

Anyone know how I can get a decent ukulele on the cheap?
And what I should look out for?
>>
>>72106495
The plastic makala ones sound amazing due to the lack of bracing. They cost around 40 bucks. Don't get the brown one, that one's wood. Replace the strings. Also, I don't think they make sparkle ones anymore, but just in case, don't get one with a sparkle paint, it's too thick.
>>
Probably going to get shit on for this but should I sell my awful Schecter 8 string to buy a fanned fret Harley Benton one? I can level the frets if they're bad and I'm going to replace the pickups.
>>
>>72106583
just to clarify, the only plastic parts are the back and sides. The top is spruce and the neck is something or other. The major downside is that these have bridges shaped like fucking dolphins, complete with googly eyes. But hey, most people don't notice when you're playing, and the tone is most important.
>>
>>72106615
Well, if you want the fanned frets I don't see why not. Harley Benton is great if you're willing to give the frets a whack. I dunno much about 8 strings, so take this with a grain of salt.
>>
>>72106664
They're even better on 8 strings because they need to be much longer on the bass end.
>>
>>72106634
>The major downside is that these have bridges shaped like fucking dolphins, complete with googly eyes
That sounds like a major upside to me
>>
>>72106186
Not that poster, but I play slide in standard all the time, even though I played open tunings for years. It's better in almost every situation I've come across.

Standard gives you more chord options than the most common open tunings (which are just triads), so you can get minor and major chords easily, along with extended chords and partials.

HEARD YOU WAS TALKING SHIT.

HEARD I FORGOT THE IMAGE.

>>72106634
You can get a plastic uke for $40 that sounds good if you replace the strings?
And here I was stressing out over $200 solid mahogany ones...
Thanks anon, I'll see if any stores around here have one I can try out.
>>
>>72106855
Well, I own one of these, but yeah, I don't like the dolphin. I mean, mine is orange, so it's really already flamboyant enough.
>>
redpill me on how much slack i should leave when re-stringing

study jazz and latin guitar for a decade or so, then just fuck your shit up senpai
>>
>>72106943
it doesn't matter
>>
>>72107078
why does everyone mention it
>>
>>72106943
I usually line the string up so there's a straight pull right through the tuner, then grab the string at the nut and pull it back to the first fret, then start winding the tuner.
>>
>>72107096
Because for many guitarists restringing their instrument is the most technical thing they do with their guitar. So they over think it.

>Fender is phasing out rosewood.
[citation needed]
>>
>>72107194
I just went to grab the article and it's gone now. I checked the facebook page of the company that published it and found the following:

"DISCLAIMER: Yesterday, we posted an article on our blog based on information received from Fender EMEA stating that they would not be using rosewood as an option for 'necks' (fingerboards) on future models. However, this morning, it has been clarified by Fender that this will only be the case on selected models, and not the entire range. Updates will be posted to the original article once more information is available. Apologies for any confusion!"
