When you spend all of the album virtue signalling you forget to make good music (again)
>>

when do they virtue signal
>>
>>72060061
Not him. But that Vince Staples track, surprisingly garbage btw, might be considered virtue signaling.

>>72060101
>the action or practice of publicly expressing opinions or sentiments intended to demonstrate one's good character or the moral correctness of one's position on a particular issue.

In what way?
>>
>>72060156
I actually like ascension but if you can't see where the virtue signaling comes in you might be retarded
>>
>>72060183
Can you explain it to me? The song seems to be heralding a sort of apocalypse and Vince Staples seems to be commenting on violence within and against the black community while juxtaposing it with the desire to dance. In what way is he making a demonstrative gesture out of his own morals when the juxtaposition of violence and celebration seems to be what the song is explicitly about?
>>
>>72060156
"virtue signaling" doesn't mean anything, like all /pol/ buzzwords it's just a way to signal other autists
>>
>>72060301
>Violence against black people
There's no such thing. We're not in the 50s anymore. The only people committing violence against black people are black people themselves.
Staples can go fuck himself.
>>
kek they've never made anything resembling good music.
fags just shill for them cause they somehow think it's more cool to admit they listened to them when they were younger instead of other bands from the 00's.

Demon Days was good

This is the most retarded thing I've ever seen

every...single....track released so far is indefensible.

they're all fucking terrible. 5/10 on their best day with the best track (andromeda)

>collaborate with black people who rap about things that interest them on your album

Wow, being this white and uninformed.
>>
>generic hip-hop beats over shitty alt-rock
Shouldn't we be used to this by now?
>>
>>72063956
LOL
>>
>>72060518
It actually does mean something though. /pol/ using it in every other sentence doesn't make it meaningless.
>>
>>72063956
> writing meaningless, race baiting lyrics about non-existent problems that are trendy and fit the mainstream medias narrative of 'le ebil white male' and 'le poor innocent blacks who didndu nuffin'

it doesn't matter what you call it's just shallow and shameless pandering to our retarded generation that blames others for their problems.
old hip-hop groups like gang starr saw that the problem lies within the black community themselves and preached positivity and being responsible and none of this divise bullshit jargon. now that we just have a couple of drugged up privileged young blacks making music it's just easier to go with the flow.

you're not wrong here, but they've also made some really good music.

when did memerillaz ever make good music

Those are your opinions kiddo, so how about we drop the 'virtue signaling' thing and just admit it means "saying things that upset me personally"?
>>
>>72063995
wow at being THIS white and uninformed, but think you are because you listen to kendrik and kanye records.

oh america.

The first album didn't try to do anything political or socially aware. It was just a good mix of pop, trip hop and alt-rock. Demon Days was part of a larger trend of pop acts being quasi-political post-9/11 and post-US intervention in Afghanistan (think Sum 41 - Does This Look Infected). However it has good songs and doesn't get too preachy or really mention anything specific and has aged better than albums like Rock Against Bush and Green - Day American Idiot.

This.

>old hip-hop groups like gang starr saw that the problem lies within the black community themselves and preached positivity and being responsible and none of this divise bullshit jargon.

Free will is not real. Isolated problems do not exist. Everything is connected to everything else, from the birth to the death of time. Poverty, crime and violence in the black community didn't magic itself up into being because black people just inherently suck, and "positivity and being responsible" (as much as it helps individual people) never has been and never will be enough to alter the prescribed destiny of any significant cross section of society (dictated by geography and wealth, in turn dictated by historical patterns and power dynamics). The very idea is a joke.
Systemic inequality might be a concept too huge and scary for most people to accept, but dismissing it as "jargon" and insisting "why can't we all just get along?" is quite literally tantamount to demanding people not think critically about the reality they live in. It usually hinges on rabidly dismissing the experiences of other people as fake/lies because they don't match your own, and is frequently followed by dismissing them as two-dimensional fake people. The saddest is when blacks jump on this bandwagon because they don't even want to sit and listen for a bit to the experiences of other blacks, because they'd rather stay safe inside a fantasy that the world isn't broken. Just a mess all round desu.

How the fuck is a black man complaining about black issues virtue signalling

you'd maybe have a point if Vince was white.
