The natural talent and experience still has to be there, but being super sleep deprived and/or binging on amphetamines can definitely temporarily increase creativity.

It's not a "get good at music" card at all, but if you're already a skilled musician and take the right combination of drugs with the right time, place, and mindset, you can potentially produce something you never would've or could've while sober. IMO that does apply to Visions, though she is still a good musician otherwise.

Was just listening to Devon again from Halfaxa for the nth time, and I noticed that there are actually two completely separate synth sounds/instrumental accompaniment parts layered on top of each other throughout the whole track. Imo it's truly remarkable how much there is left to notice in her music, even after you've already listened to it hundreds of times.

To be able to really get into the nitty gritty musical details of her earlier albums to the extent necessary to effectively realize it in other musical settings (such as for live orchestra) requires having a very strong formal background in music theory/composition and classical music forms - the sort of musical knowledge that is currently extremely rare among her fan base (since her body of work is so new and most of her fans so young.) It's where you find the most obvious objective difference between most "pop" music (e.g. most non-Grimes) and most "classical" music. Pop sticks to focusing primarily on surface features of music composition such as melody, whereas classical puts sonic texture/complexity as high - if not higher - on the list.
