the closer i got to adulthood the further i got out of metal

a lot of it for a while now has just metal for the sake of metal, as opposed to metal for the sake of an artistic vision. just bands imitating their favourite metal acts, recycling their ideas before they can age well enough to be ever brought back in a interesting way. there are for sure exceptions, but they're unfortunately few and far between.

i'd like to be proven wrong, though. i miss enjoying metal

Pretty early on when I realized that metal's reputation (amongts metalheads) as an extremely ambitious and intellectual genre of music is the exaggeration of the century. Literally the only innovation to ever come out of metal is cringey timbral experiments from the million subgenres.
