So who else has dove into a completely foreign genre totally blind to get absolutely blown away? I put this on Tuesday without the faintest idea of post-rock and was just floored.

somewhat recently this happened when I went into Canterbury scene with In The Land of Grey and Pink

Me too, also the same album. It ended up becoming my all time favorite.

Enjoy it. Stay in the first and second wave acts as long as you can though. With Explosions In The Sky and all their clones you start to hear a lot of soulless "crescendocore" which is why so many people on /mu/ blanket-hate the genre.

There are some good third wavers though, namely Grails, We Lost The Sea, and Jakob.

i feel like the tracks to that album should have just been quotes from the songs

I liked them a lot at first but after maybe a third or fourth listen it just gets really old to me really fast. And also makes me bitter that they inadvertently flooded post rock with copycats trying to recreate their commercial friendly sound.

Honestly what has happened to post rock is very similar to what happened to prog rock.
