I used to in high school, and used to reject stuff I actually like like pop punk. It's not that there aren't some really good prog bands, but the problem is that it's a genre that prides itself on pushing musical boundaries but most prog bands do the same wanky keyboard/guitar shit. It's formulaic at this point. Artists that actually deserve the label "progressive" don't have it, like Bjork.

you ever listen to any prog groups that infuse jazz into their sound? its very interesting.
>>

Van Der Graaf Generator, Premiata Forneria Marconi, Jethro Tull, Rush, Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso, Camel.

Check out progarchives for all the essentials.

Nope, but that does sound interesting. Do you have some examples?

I love the timbre of the classic guitar/bass/drum outfit, but rock, metal, and all their sub-genres I'm into get pretty dull after a while. The rhythmic diversity of progressive rock, and how that opens so many doors for melody, is the biggest turn on for me right now. I also like how there is literally nothing fashionable about prog, unlike literally every other form of rock, punk, or metal. For the most part, the artists seem to only really be concerned with the music, and not fitting into a rigid subculture or clique. It's rock music without all the bullshit that makes rock so fucking lame.
>>
>>71995526
this guy ruined the live King Crimson shows in 2008... He was the sound engineer for the tour ,right?

I saw the next to last show of that Tour at the Nokia theater NYC and he had mic'ed the kick drums to such a senselessly loud point it was fucking with my heart.

ten rows back I thought it would destroy my hearing.

they belong to the bands that recorded them. if to you they're still so tried the fact that some trip that used to post here happened to like them you're way too obsessive

yes you have to keeping your scrobbles and your topsters chart presentable to not be excluded from the intellectual elite society that is 4chan's music board don't you, i worry about it every day myself
>>
>>71996178
Not really??? I don't even use topsters or care about last.fm.
Are you seriously that sloppy that you can't imagine why somebody would want to maintain themselves intellectually for themselves, and not for others?
>>
>>71994709
>Kingston Wall
That band is shit. One of their songs is even a direct rip-off of Echoes
>>
>>71996217
well that's certainly not what i got from your posts
violently shutting yourself off from influences you had some sort of knee-jerk, gut-based resentment towards isn't really intellectual. intelligent people should be capable of entertaining a line of thought and learning to understand it without completely giving themselves to it. imo, generally speaking
>>
>>71996300
Well, the way I see it, it's like how you want to keep yourself away from smokers to maintain your lung health.
>>
>>71996329
terrible analogy, "bad" taste does not pose a threat to your health in any way
>>
>>71995858
Not sure, I know he remasters a lot of classic prog albums and they sound great
>>
>>71995916
>they belong to the bands that recorded them. if to you they're still so tried the fact that some trip that used to post here happened to like them you're way too obsessive
Sorry Officer Semantics
>>71995311 said he didn't like his taste. So I pointed out that it's pretty obvious where his recommendations for the chart are cause there are a bunch of albums he used to shill all in one location. I didn't mean to imply that he recorded Seven Idiots or whatever it is you think I was implying.
>>
>>71994709
there's 1 Rush album on that whole list. And that one album is Moving Pictures. You sir, are a pleb
>>
Why not

Why would anybody listen to that?

Unpopular prog opinions

>my favorite Gentle Giant album is the s/t
>>
>>71996459
i just attacked his
>hating music just because you hate its fans
-type mindset and played off of your wording because it was convenient
it wasn't the best idea to bring you into our bickering just to make that point though, so sorry i guess

even if it's called "essentials" naturally a chart is going to be more or less influenced by the taste of whoever made it, because it's impossible and stupid to try to be objective about music, which is something avant never got. or he did and stopped starting shit because of that
>>
is Kansas considered Prog rock?
I'm listening a lot of them recently and really enjoying
>>

Yeah. I ordered these all from Amazon, which is pretty fucky with its entries. I was trying to order the 40th Anniversary editions of all the King Crimson albums (which all exist, btw), but since Amazon is so frustratingly vague in its titles for stuff, I accidentally ordered in the incorrect version of Islands (30th Anniversary as opposed to 40th Anniversary). So I returned it and haven't bothered to order the correct edition yet. I will some day.
>>
>>71994158
Regular music is simply too boring and not intellectually stimulating enough for me. I've found that only progressive rock is able to hold my attention and keep me interested nowadays

Dream Theater is simply the best when it comes to this
