In this thread we talk about Bruce
DID SOMEBODY CALL MY NAME?
This is now a Bruce Johnston thread
>>71978171
I literally just made a thread:
>>71977773
>>71978171
anon, why are you listening to uninspired emotionless folk rock for upper middle class baby boomers? stop this
>>71978542
You sound really 14
>>71978227
so? fuck you
Nebraska is great but you faggots really tend to overrate it. It's really not that different from everything else he's done from a songwriting standpoint.
>>71978171
switch tunnel of love with born in the usa and the pic is spot on
>>71978769
That's really not true. He's never really captured hopelessness musically or lyrically the same way before or since.
>>71978171
absolute shit taste
The song For You from his first album has always and will always be one of my favorite songs of all time
>>71978171
Why the FUCK does everyone rate E Street Shuffle so low? It's objectively top 3 Bruce. Fuck you faggots.
>>71979327
If you can accept that it's just Astral Weeks + Blonde on Blonde, Greetings is actually a pretty solid album.
Pretty bizarre listening and realizing that Bruce barely plays guitar on it though.
Thoughts on this?
>>71978171
Tunnel of Love is a masterpiece
>>71979385
his guitar playing has never really mattered that much except as a songwriting tool
>>71979686
That's complete nonsense
>>71979735
he plays very little that couldn't be convincingly substituted by another competent player, even if it is prominent or even the only instrument sometimes that's not the point, it's there and used to great effect but his playing is not anything special
>>71979327
I had a listen to it today. Truly great.
>>71979735
>>71979778
to put it another way, he's mostly a songwriter guitarist, not a guitarist guitarist who is just focused on their playing and sound and not being a singer songwriter, and his playing reflects that. he mostly just drives the chords, and he's solid as fuck just doing that, but it's just not the same as someone who is focused primarily on perfecting their style and having their playing be the lead and focus of the music.

>born to run god tier
>river not god tier
Pleb spotted
He can fire off some deliciously dirty solos when he's in the mood. Makes you wonder how many whammy bars he's been through in his lifetime.

Maybe you should listen to his records again, particularly Badlands and Junglelands on Born to Run and all of Darkness, because you're really missing out if this is all you're getting out of his lead guitar playing,
>>71978171
I really don't get why /mu/ doesn't think Born in the U.S.A is god-tier but alright.
>>71978769
It *might* be his songwriting peak, but it is a bit one-note, imo. The reason I rate BitU so highly is because I think that was the album where he got his recurring themes to truly gel, as opposed to having an upper or downer album, or have it be The River which is pretty manic in tone (and quality)
tfw Backstreets when he starts belting it out
anybody seen him live?
>>71978171
>The Rest
Funny (and sad) how true that is

Most of them are from Ullevi stadium. 1 time at Stockholm stadion and 1 time at Friends Arena. All are located in Sweden.
I was at the show where he reviewed Jungleland back in 2012. He also played Frankie that night.
Nebraska is his best
