>DUUDE LIKE IT'S SUBVERTING THE GENRE
No, it's just fucking awful

>>71946260

>>
>>71946802
That actually sounds good though
>>
>>71949655
It's awful how? Remember, Vinnie Colaiuta, George Duke, Adrian Belew, Chad Wackerman, Terry Bozzio, Pierre Boulez are some of the many musicians who have played with Zappa. Are they all awful too? And then again, why Captain Beefheart? He had the voice of a white Howlin' Wolf. And just a reminder, Trout Mask Replica isn't his only album. As far as The Residents go, if you can tell me with a straight face that Not Available isn't an amazing album, I give up.

zappa is the quintessential "its supposed to be shit" meme. almost everything he does comes from this high ground of parodizing popular culture and also rock culture and how utterly dumb most listeners are except he rarely ever provides a real alternative he just spits out the same pointless garbage pop song and the same pointless wanking guitar solo, all the while a little smirk for the audience because we "get it"

he was notorious for being hard to work with apparently a lot of musicians could stand up to his level of workaholism and perfectionism but I mean how the actual fuck could you rehearse, let alone sign off on somethign like "goblin girl": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iD-C2_okFuM

the real shame is he has like 20 GREAT tracks randomly scattered across 40 albums. I dunno, he made his millions playing music, I would do the same given the chance
>>
>>71949555
His voice actually sounds better in lo-fi. I like CSH, but I could barely get through his Tiny Desk Concert
>>
>>71949935
also his voice was the undeniably worst in music. he just bellows on every single song. beefhearts voice was amazing he had a crazy range, I wonder if zappa privately resented how awesome his voice was
>>
>>71949940
>could barely get through his Tiny Desk Concert

>>
>>71949935
It seems to me that you're one of those who simply can't fathom the idea of an album with a sense of humor. He didn't take anything so seriously, but it seems that you sure do. And what's wrong with being a perfectionist? George Duke said that his life and everything he knew about music was transformed when he played with Zappa.
>>
>>71950000
holy shit, those really are numbers
>>
>>71949935
I know he's famous for being "wacky" and being a contrarian pos, but Zappa has more straightforward songs than weird ones.

It's kinda like judging Butthole Surfers just from Pepper or Radiohead from Creep.

>>71950189
>It's kinda like judging Butthole Surfers just from Pepper or Radiohead from Creep.
except i dunno, fair enough but radiohead has a linear development, and they were very young when they wrote creep. .... zappa had an entire career of mostly ironic shit with some actual good parts tossed in. so its different... I guess I just got pissed off I had 2 good zappa albums in a row and then 12 bad ones in a row

>>71950000

They're musically inept. They couldn't perform better either way. I think it doesn't apply to them.
