Start with Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath and Judas Priest and then on to stuff like Megadeth, Metallica and Motorhead. Those bands are all really mainstream and entry level but still some of the best the genre has to offer.

Why is Hazardous Mutation on there? It's not terrible, but there are much better crossover albums out there

I liked this album, don't know if it classifies as "metal" since its psychedelic but its amazing.
