>Obviously I like Sonic Youth. They are definitely a modern rock'n'roll band in my eyes. They make some beautiful music. Have you heard "Expressway To Your Skull"? It's unbelievably good. So beautiful! It's classic. Magnificent melody, and to hear it live, especially, it's awesome. They have several songs of that quality. So they're a great band.
-Neil Young on Sonic Youth
>>
I hope Neil Young will remember, a Southern Man don't need him around anyhow

Trump: I remember reading about a composer named Steve Reich who came up with a new idea called phasing, which is like windshield wipers going in and out of synch. Apparently he was caught in a traffic jam one rainy day and the rhythm of the windshield wipers caught his attention and he applied what he heard to his musical compositions. He has had a significant influence on contemporary music, and I think he’s a great example of an innovator. Sometimes new ideas can come from something as mundane and functional as your windshield wipers. The key is to pay attention and keep your brain and senses open to new stimuli.

Kek, you're fucking either a shill or stupid

there is no major/indie dichotomy in 2017

St. Vincent was at the (((Grammys))) for fucks sake, and gets shilled here on the reg.
>>
>>71921199
Yeah I heard he really wants to collaborate with Lorde. Kids confused. He needed a mentor or someone to give him some positive reinforcement.

Big time pop stars are getting billions of views on YouTube and Superbowl halftime shows. St. Vincent has 6 mil views on her most popular video after 3 years. Her Grammy award doesn't even get taped for tv. It's not song of the year.

There is obviously a gap between the height of her popularity and a major pop stars. Yes "indie" can be a marketing ploy but 2/3 of Twitter was freaked out by her SNL performance and were confused by her music if not outright hating it.And don't say shit about (((SNL))) because Arcade Fire, Bon Iver, and all the big "indie" bands have played it. It's doesn't mean shit to be on SNL. SNL doesn't mean you made it all it is a way to promote an album.
>>
>>71921472
what are your favorite artists?
>>
>>71921510
Sufjan Stevens, AJJ, Kanye
>>
Death Grips' earliest interview cited obscure nazi blackened noise band Nyogthaeblisz as an influence
>They cite “human nature, deceit, sex and death” as some of their earliest inspirations. They’ve also taken cues from musicians like Nyogthaeblisz and Lil’ B The Basedgod, and artists like Sasha Grey and Chris Burden, who once described his work as the “acting out of an idea, the materialization of the idea”.
>>

Kanyes huge though. Sufjan Stevens is a mainstream indie artist who is arguably bigger than St. Vincent (she launched her career because of him and she did backing vocals In Now That I'm Older), and and have a few hundred thousand views on their albums and are shipped on this board fairly frequently. Youre a hypocrite.

Danny Brown and St. Vincent are two of the better artists Pitchfork has pushed. They sometimes blindly praise them like (Atrocity Exhibition and the s/t) but at least they're ear catching.

Walter Schriefels of Gorilla Biscuits/Quicksand/Rival Schools is a huge MBV - and especially Kevin Shields - fan. I read an old United by Fate-era interview in Total Guitar where he was gushing all over him. Also, 'Holding Sand' has a drum loop sample taken from the start of 'Soon'.

Pete Townshend fucking LOVES Anime

>Japanamerica is the book I have been waiting for. It tells the incredible story of the way the colorful and eccentric world of Japanese entertainment and popular art has enriched our lives in the West. But it also deals with why it has a poetry that has taken Americans many years to understand and feel able to echo. Japan's holocaust was equally traumatic to the ones experienced by many Americans, and perhaps more sudden, more extreme and more focused. This story shows how today we all use movies, comics, music, art and advertising to face our past and its traumas, rather than to escape. The Japanese methods of facing the past are restrained and unusual, but ultimately glorious, and mean more to us in our post-9/11 era than ever they could before. Roland Kelts, part American, part Japanese, brings real insight to the way this union of hearts and souls through entertainment will continue to grow and draw two very different worlds together.”

Wasn't he busted in the same operation that outed Gary Glitter and Jimmy Saville? It seems that if Pete was acquitted but both Glitter and the late Saville had their reputations demolished, Pete really didn't do anything wrong.

>>
>>71931592
He didn't have as extensive history (that we know of) as Glitter or Saville. Glitter and Saville raped children and other screwed up shit. Townshend just was trying to access CP, and I guess the British courts didn't want to crucify him.
>>
>>71931592
>>71931622

His explanation was he was doing a documentry on the ease of access to Child exploitation material. To his credit, it wasn't a bullshit excuse and was released. He got a 10 year sex offender status for it, so it wasn't unpunished.

I think he was more of a case of dumb old grandpa trying to internet and failing hard. He really should have went to law enforcement beforehand about his project.

>>71931656
Keep in mind this was in the early 90s where cp must MUCH easier to find just browsing around. The documentary Some Call Me Lucky also goes into this.

>>71931592
Was slightly off on this, Operation Yewtree was in 2012 and tons of british media personalities were outed as pedophiles and sex offenders. Townshend wasn't one of them, so either he's innocent or he kept his large nose very clean

Here's all the information about it with sources

She unironically is really into industrial music and has her own noise/industrial band. The one weird part is she got started in music around the same time Death Grips started, so I guess it's possible they could have been influenced by her so soon. I'm not really that familiar with Death Grips though, so they could just be goofing around.
>>
>>71931801
He took a police caution and never went to court. He's since said he regrets not fighting it more as it made him appear as someone who was guilty making some plea deal
>>
>>71931842
It's a possibility, but it seems so outlandish that I can't take anything like that seriously. It'd be like (forgive me for the crude comparison) The Beatles saying that Abbey Road was inspired by The Archies or something
>>
>>71931781
I actually believe Pete's story. It sounds like bollocks at first, but a bunch of child abuse charities that he had been in contact with came forwards for him, and he was found to have never entered the site, which would be an odd thing to do if he was actually looking for CP to get off to. Plus he's never been accused of any other wrongdoing in relation to it other than that one time. I don't think the police would have let him off with a caution if they thought he was doing anything more than it.
>>
>>71931972
The media, cancerous Sun Times tier british media in particular, fucking loves outing and subsequently (metaphorically) crucifying a pedophile, since it lets them have the moral highground that they crave with very little backlash or sympathy given to the subject of their article. The reason Pete got away was because there was nothing to stick him with. And someone with that level of fame where the exploitation of them could sell a lot of magazines, it's obvious he's innocent.
