Pretty much this. I love the goth aesthetic and Gothic lit, and a few of my favorite bands are goth like Bauhaus and Grave Babies, but the fashion is too ridiculous. I'd feel silly dressing up like an edgy 14 year old girl every day. The music also feels impractical, like it's made to evoke a kind of fantasy that, though appealing, isn't compatible with many of the emotional and experiential parts of life. Or, put simply, when I'm happy and on a nature walk, or when I'm doing well and feeling cool and successful, I have no desire to think about vampires, let alone dress up like them.
