All you are going to want to do is there, Libet's delay, and Camaraderie at arms length, and The sublime is disappointingly elusive are all great tracks.
>>
>>71895929
What's the point of listening to it when I could get the exact same experience by carving a locked groove in an old jazz record so I can listen to the same bar or two on repeat for 45 minutes?

Literally all of them. People just want to look like they enjoy music in order to seem hip and cool. It's the worst artform. 99% is meaningless horseshit trying to appeal to the lowest forms of life. All music fans are either basic bitches or faggots trying to be unique. It's disgusting. It's just compilations of sound being played simultaneously, nothing artistic or meaningful about it.

Oh come on, that one's got a nice build up to it. A lot of interesting atmospheric rhythms, too.

this is retarded, even if there are people that pretend to like stuff for brownie points it still has potential to be enjoyed

sounds great desu. hypnotic. sign me up.

>>71895998
Because you don't have those specific jazz records and this way you don't have to scar your records because some guy already did.

I already did that with an exotica record anyway.

99% of the time, Buyer's Market. Now I can understand appreciating it for what it is, but genuinely liking it like a regular album is pretty tough to believe.

And 100% of the time, Blind Date. There are definitely better recordings of a guy fucking a corpse. It is only barely a thing because of context.

People who don't get this album are just ignorant of the rock and roll scene at the time and don't appreciate the effect le banana album had on the genre. You don't have to like every song (I myself dont care much for Nico's shit on it) but fuck you if Sunday morning and Heroin aren't 2 of the finest songs of the 60s.

It's amazing, jazz riffs in folk music with great drumming, good guitar work and fucked up singing styles
only bad song is moulin rouge
also some of the song structures feel like proto-no-wave glenn branca kinda shit - with the minor / major shifts
the amount of ideas packed into this album is insane - and it's not even pretentious, the whole albums just about fucking

It literally doesn't. Maybe it sounds nice if you like nursing home pop standards from before your parents were born, I certainly don't and I hope my grandchildren in 2087 don't grow up to slow down the same 4 bars of a forgotten Kiiara track over and over for 12 minutes.

there are many albums I can understand disliking, but I literally cannot fathom disliking loveless. it's such an incredibly unique sounding album
>>
>>71904090
It sounds cool, it just... it feels so fucking long...
>>
>>71903951
It only sounds "nondescript" to you because their influence has trickled down through pretty much every single indie/alt rock band since. There was nothing else like this album at the time and nothing has approached it since.
>>
>>
>>71904197
I think that means it aged badly

I absolutely fell in love from the first track (and mind you... it's a REALLY good first track) the first time I heard it. but don't forget, this isn't the only thing Cardiacs ever did...

there's more... a good intro album in my mind would be Songs For Ships And Irons ('Big Ships' for example, is one of my favorite songs of all time)... and the rest of them as well... oh my...
>>

I've given it several honestly, found it just so boring. I'm sure I'll give it another go at some point.

Honestly, what's so awesome about it?
>>
>>71903851
Sonic Youth is kinda like Swans. Their most celebrated era is my least favorite, but a lot of their other stuff kicks ass. Bad Moon Rising, Washing Machine, and Goo are my favorites.
>>
>>71904512
I'll fanboy Cardiacs till the day I die!
>>
>>71904689
Bad Moon Rising is their most interesting album imo

Then again I liked their 9/11 album that got a .5 on Pitchfork or whatever so what do I know
>>
>>71904623
It's maybe better appreciated in the context of their discography, since this was the album where they perfectly struck the balance between the chaotic noise rock/No Wave of their early albums and the more straightforward alt rock style they'd later move towards. They had already attempted this with Sister, but DDN executes it far more effectively in my opinion, aiming for a more abstract songwriting method wherein they would improvise lengthy jams and edit them down later in the studio, à la Czukay.

Disregarding context, the individual merits of this album are its stellar songwriting with complex, expressive harmonies, intricate counterpoint and noticeable influence from Krautrock, modal jazz and classical minimalism; pioneering use of the electric guitar as a soundsculpting tool and not merely as a vehicle for chords and melodies; and finally a penetrating, almost apocalyptic atmosphere of angst and alienation surrounding city life.

>>71904689
My favourite SY albums are everything they released in the 80s. Never really cared for anything after Daydream Nation.
