While most people are playing off of different ideas within one track, he does that on the level of the whole album, with each track being this solid one-note representation of a state of mind, message, energy or whatever (the fact that some tracks feel like two different songs is just another example of this pace of quick mood swings). Singles like Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe and Swimming Pools, with spacious beats and more well defined verse-to-hook structure have got little to do the frenetic rhythm of TPAB, where you feel like you're consuming this mood in one breath and jumping on to the next one (he also mostly ditched the spacious beats for more in your face stuff to complement that).
i and The Blacker The Berry ended up being better in the context of their album, but yeah, in the end this is just me trying to rationalize the fact that this wasn't very mind blowing at all

I feel like not enough people are comparing this to backseat freestyle. Both very simply produced, braggadocios bangers, except backseat freestyle is like 10x better. While very rhythmic, the minimalism of his voice and the minimalism of the beat just create a boring track, while also being a lowpoint for Kenricks songwriting. Its not a terrible rack, just think the Kendrick dick riders are over hyping it. Hope the album is better...
