I think it's the wide arrange of styles that makes it great and although it might be a little poppy it's not that light. I also think most albums need a cheery, "goofy" song like Kooks (Or Octopus' Garden or Doctor Robert)

The only part of Hunky Dory I hate is the part at the end of The Bewlay Brothers. "Lay me place and bake me pie" etc. It's just grating. Otherwise, it's a really amazing album. Not his best, but it deserves its classic status.
