There's not necessarily a contradiction in those two statements. You may think that music is entirely subjective and therefore other people's opinions shouldn't affect your personal judgement, but you can still get album recommendations based on critical acclaim and not be a hypocrite, because the fact that an album is critically acclaimed means that there's a much higher chance that you'll like it as well. It would be hypocritical if you looked for critically acclaimed albums because you thought that gave them some sort of "objective standard of quality".
