interpretative performing goes back to classical and baroque eras, though. even more so since scores were not littered with specific concrete instructions regarding tempi and dynamics, vast majority of scores back then did not utilize metronome markings, etc.
literalism has its roots from the romantic era because that's when composers became increasingly autistic about how they wanted their works performed.

Yes, but they are never played like modes. Modal playing is not based around chord progressions.
>But equal temperament allows composers to modulate and use chords other than I, IV, and V, that you claim to hate.
Yes, while sounding like absolute shit and out of tune. Also equally tempered instruments present every new musician with the illusion that "this is the only way to play music", so the tonal bullshit chord music circus just continues and drags on.
>>71886036
So you're admitting you prefer instruments limited to one key?
>>71886530
I'd rather have one key sound good than all keys sound horrible. You can also retune most instruments to another key as well if another piece calls for a new key.
>but what about muh modulations
Modulations are almost always excessive.
>>71886577
So you say you hate pieces that use I, IV, V progressions, then you say you prefer just intonation in which instruments are severely limited in key and say that modulations are almost always excessive. Make up your fucking mind you goddamn contrarian.
>>71886616
How are exactly are those statements contradictory?

>>71895141
They *are* forgettable, because Haydn didn't spend much time on each one. Writing symphonies was a formality in Haydn's time. Beethoven spent 10 years on his ninth, and it's 10 years more memorable to listen to

good at playing mozart concertos and schubert sonatas (very tastefully reserved interpretations, no vulgar overembellishments or whatever)
not so good at not speaking like a twat during interviews
just my opinion
>>71903530
About what you'd expect from a Japanese woman.
Good taste in her choice of pieces, and also good taste in her style of interpretation, but overall nothing hugely special or anything.

Bach, Charpentier and Zelenka are the only ones who matter senpai
>>71904643
Supreme taste desu, but I'd add Lotti as well.
>>71904659
I forgot about that amazing crucifixus senpai
Baroque was best when praising God rather than the King, Handel is too posh and bourgeois
STOP

I need to get into more Baroque sacred music
I like the restraint, purity and masculinity of the renaissance Masses more than some baroque. I don't like when counter tenors wail like banshees on the rag

What are the best /viola/ musicians, /mu/?
I'm learning the instrument after playing bass for about 10 years
and it's a fucking irony how much of a counterflow it is compared to bass
but I know nothing about the viola big guys
>>71906441
Why would anyone want to play viola?
>>71906488
It's a long story but I was one of the few persons drawn to take classes on the best school here. The classes are free but I can't change the instrument.
and my hands are too big to play violin
>>71906441
I'm going to assume you mean viola d'amore because no one sane would willingly play the retarded cousin of the violin.

W-what's the problem with viola?
Just because it's the only instrument where you use the C-clef?
>>71907357
>W-what's the problem with viola?
Apparently people thought it'd be a good idea to use a tennis racket as a classical instrument.

Rookie mistake desu.
The viola is the most underrated string instrument desu
