I believe Piero Scaruffi is a truly great critic. He's not only the best critic alive today for the Avantgare and experimental Rock music, but he's also an example of what a great modern art critic should strive to be. If you had only read his database you people would know why that man is worthy of being idolized.
Besides his great knowledge, there have been better critics of Jazz and Classical, and I usually ignore anything he says about Hip Hop, but no one knows more about early Avantgarde. Just read his ''History of Avantgarde'' text, his understanding and respect for that which is the most beautiful part of music history is something to be applauded. Not to mention his passionate, well-spoken and honest way of writing. But that only makes him a good critic, what truly makes him a great critic is how he applied that knowledge in his studies of Rock music, creating the single best 100 Rock albums list, and best Rock History guide.
Furthermore, he's the greatest example of what an Avantgarde art critic should be. For he knows his real job as a curator. What a curator does is take something hidden and show it to the people. Scaruffi so avidly goes to the most interesting time of the past century and gives those amazing musicians the recognition they deserve.
Different from other rock critics, he doesn't rate things based on success, popularity or even simple skill. He rather rates them based on their creativity, impact, influence and history. For him, emotional expression and skill, while still not being completely disregarded, come secondary. And of course success and popularity aren't even taken into consideration.
Piero Scaruffi may not be the best critic of all time, but surely he's the best experimental art critic we have. He utilizes the most purposeful critiquing template for Avantgarde art, not just music. That is also why he's an example of any aspiring art critic, which I know for a fact a bunch of you faggots are.

He has some interesting ideas about the role of the art critic but they are largely undeveloped and his reviews are not very meaningful. I'll never get why he became a meme here
THE FACT THAT

nice pasta
Aside from the possibility of them exposing you to music you wouldn't have otherwise heard, I don't get /mu/'s obsession with stupid fucking critics. No one should take what they have to say any more importantly than a friend with similar taste to their own.
I believe Piero Scaruffi is a truly great critic.
