is it one of these electric gimps?
>>
I can't think of a "voice of a generation" after Nirvana. I don't think everyone gets one.
>>
The thing is, I see there being multiple generations within this current generation. There's not just one collective group.
>>
>>71854216
I'd say the Strokes were the closest post-Nirvana "voice."
>>
>>71854199
I hope your mom gets breast cancer you brain-dead imbecile : D
>>
>>71854299
Sure I agree

Is the problem with our generation that it's way too disparate?
Because we all are each being influenced and interested in different art movements, styles and ideas all the time by the internet, we have less in common with one another?
In other words a zeitgeist is no longer possible because there is nothing to react to/against when we're all into different things?
Like nothing can stick anymore
>>
>>71854320
This is going to be the stupidest thing I've ever written but in an age where we have the ability to be closer than ever, we are even further apart. I think people are definitely becoming more individualistic and caring less about their group of peers.
>>
Kendrick is unironically the last one since Nirvana. GKMC is our album.

Unironically Arctic Monkeys could have been. Pic related was right on the button for a lot of people in their early 20s in the UK/Ireland at least. It lasted til the next album but something changed then and they lost it in my opinion.

Kendrick probably is for a lot of black kids in America but I'm a white guy from Europe so I could be completely off base with that.

I'm drunk and digging these posts. Keep going.
>>
>>71854891
This is actually true, I related with Whatever People Say... So much and I listened to it non stop when I was 17/18. It's a shame Arctic Monkeys made crappy records after their debut, because to me their debut is 9/10

Pure Comedy
>>
sure bob dylan was the voice of a generation for white middle class hippies, but since social media meant spotlights for everyone there will never be the illusion of a single voice of a generation again since more than one group is visible now
>>
>>71854130
Ed Sheeran
>>
>>71854985
Is there a word for being anti-edgy on an edgy forum?
>>
Kanye... unfortunately
>>
bob dylan wasn't for the voice for his generation lol
>>
Could've been Green Day if they'd followed up American Idiot with something great. But it's gonna take a younger band to really capture the current malaise.
>>
Kanye is the only one who will be remembered.

I'm not the biggest fan of his music, but he certainly broke new ground, and he has the personality to give him that godlike quality.
>>
Im gonna have to say young thug
>>
>>71854306
Wow what a shitty generation
>>
Lady Gaga
>>
>>71854891
>Pic related was right on the button for a lot of people in their early 20s in the UK/Ireland

Absolutely this.
>>
Tyler Joesph?
>>
>>71854130

Seriously I know one of them is arca and the other is OPN who the fuck are the other guys
>>
>>71856679
the skaters and hype williams
>>
>>71854320
Tbh it really sucks
>>
>>71854343
Yeah,but rock not hip-hop.
Back in the 90s hip-hop had Tupac and biggie
You could say nirvana was for rock
>>
Right now the closest could be Everything Everything, they write lyrics based on current events but make songs that can easily be played on the radio and reach a mass audience and appeal to a generation.
>>
If you judge by popularity it'd probably be Beyonce
>>
>>71856856
nobody knows about them tho
>>
>>71857007
I don't think popularity is really a useful metric at all.
>>
>>71857160
how the fuck can you be the voice of your generation when nobody knows you?
>>
>>71856583
yeah maybe. not bad
>>
>>71854320
>>71854340

So what you ant to be sheep and all like the same band who will validate your thoughts that you matter ith a rebelious/revolutionary sound ?

gtfo out of here.

With the big leaps in technology/the internet/etc people can express in so much ways nowadays that it is not surprisng that no band has had the attention of the zeigeist.
>>
>>71854130
the internet fragmented youth culture badly so it's hard to say
maybe mac the narco?
>>
>>71854130
maybe My Chem? I know they're a bit of a meme here, but they were a pretty sold band, maybe the best rock act in the last 15 years that was actually popular worlwide
>>
Mac easily. Like it or not he's definitely the voice of our generation. He speaks truth to power.
>>
I'd go with Lyrical Strally.
>>
>>71857152
Hopefully they'll breakthrough with their next album if they continue their current trend.
>>
>>71857253
literally who? he's way too indie and hipster to be The Voiceâ„¢ of a generation
>>
>>71857269
I'm still pissed their first album was so badly received.
>>
>>71857211
>>71857253
You have to say something to be the voice of a generation. Mac has only influenced popular fashion
>>
>>71857275
i'm not sayin mac is le voice of a generation xD but he's pretty damn well known senpai
>>
>>71857235
You're right, MCR is the only potential voice of the generation in the last 15 years

>>71857337
This
>>
Car Seat Headrest was shown on a few talk shows and is continue to rise in popularity, so provably Will Toldeo
>>
>>71857422
bad example. they're not loud and nobody gives a shit about them (other than music ofcourse)

This, unironically. People don't give a shit anymore, just give me something funny and unchallenging and that will make me laugh and feel kinda smart for understanding a reference. The reason people like this is that it strokes their egos, whether you admit it or not you like it when you get a joke that you know not everyone else would get because it strokes your ego. This album is varied enough that everyone gets that feeling listening to it. And what makes it so reflective of the current generation is that we all know this. We know we're not special for getting the references, but we just don't care. Our egos still get a kick, we don't care whether that kick is justifiable or authentic, we just want the kick.

because there are no bands worthy of zeitgeist attention

what music? millennials can't do anything right. pic related, what they wasted their time doing instead

Neil Cicigera is a relic of Gen X'er pre-2007 internet culture.
>>
>>71857269
I honestly wish them so much success, they make such good music that is very accessible and the lead singer's voice is amazing. The most mainstream thing I saw them on was DiRT 3.
>>
Corey Feldman hands down

How has no one said beyonce yet? The current generation models their life off of hers.

There is none.

Do you really think that this generation of kids with their smart phones, social media, and streaming platforms has one artist that can claim to speak for all of them?

There is way too much content, and way too many ways for kids to access their content, for anyone to have the effect that someone like Bob Dylan had on the baby boomers.

It's truly a brave new world!

As a bong I can confirm. Whatever People Say I Am is still iconic as fuck today
