>Geminiani
Has a good sense of melody and rhythm. I also like how he inserts some folk themes into the cello sonatas like what Telemann did with his violin fantasias.
>Leo
He (and a few others) forms the bridge between the baroque and the classical styles of concertos. He is also quite inventive with the cello as a solo instrument.
>Lanzetti
Short and sweet. Nothing complicated and is just good fun.
>Scarlatti
I enjoy how clear and distinct he wrote his voices, and the occasional fugal elements he puts in.

Alright then boys, I'm ready to take the classical pill.

I'm willing to admit that I'm a pleb who's really only listened to classical media that's been shown in popculture and shit.
Like my favorite is "Moonlight Sonata".

What should I listen to first?
Who should I listen to?
>>
>>71851262
Get a list of notorious composers and start exploring. From Moonlight, go to the romantics first, then diversify. Chopin is accessible and a safe starting point, try his nocturnes.

Why do you say the G-sharp is a passing tone? Is it because the chord immediately after it (the E7 chord) also starts on a passing tone one semi-tone too low?

But the passing tone for the E7 is clearly shown to be a passing tone, because it only lasts one quaver, then the weight shifts onto the actual chord. In the tristan chord, the main weight of the chord is given to the G-sharp, which lasts almost the whole bar on its own.

The secret is they are really dull. Not sure I know a less interesting collection of quartets, makes Feldman's quartets seem fun.

Sell them quick to some poor schlep and buy Nordgard, Simpson, Rihm, Reger, Milhaud, Krenek, pretty much anyone else.

Mozart was his favorite composer, though
>>
Why is Mozart's music so unbearably dull?

It's literally perfect, so it lacks any sort of human element. You obviously subconsciously seek imperfections in music.

The thing that makes me most embarrassed about associating with fellow classical listeners is their oestrogen-fuelled Luddite natures. If they are this behind when it comes to appreciating their own genre, for sure they're going to lack the virility to realise or admit the superiority of contemporary, popular music, which, although inferior on purely the craftsmanship level, is nonetheless superior on the overall level, incorporating moral, scientific and technological progress, and this superiority is already reflected in the preferences of the general populace (who, despite what these senile man-children would tell you, do not reflect the bottom rung of humanity, but the absolute average, mediocre desires of the human psyche), even for a century now.

A man who champions disgusting, ugly, materialist music like that of the second viennese could EVER understand Mozart.

I get what you meant, but SVS is not materialist, it is formalist and about the equality of pitches. Materialism is nearly synonymous with hedonism and inequality, it's pleasurable, popular music like Mozart.

It took me a long time to get into Mozart because I found the music "emotionless." you have to get over this modern way of thinking about how drama/emotion is conveyed in music that has never really changed since the Romantic era. mozart isn't emotionless but he expects and gives no pity.
>>
>>71864515
Incorrect, the music of Mozart is the prime example of idealist (aesthetic) music, while SVS were in all ways philosophical materialists. Both a clear reflection of the predominant ideologies of the intellectual avant garde in the germanic world of their respective eras.

A lot of Mozart's music IS very dull.
He wrote his music in bulk and in mass quantities (hence he wrote 41 symphonies, even though he lived half as long as beethoven who only wrote 9) and as a result, most of it isn't as interesting as the stuff that came after Mozart.

Though, there are definitely some gems in Mozart's work, such as the requiem, some of the quintets, a fair few of the symphonies, most of his piano sonatas, eine kleine nachtmusik, the magic flute, the marriage of figaro and the list goes on...
