I mean, they aren't necessarily bad - just pretty regular sounding (the word generic keeps getting repeated to describe them). I was especially disappointed with the quality of the rapping, though the thing I'm most upset with is the tone/mood of the four songs. Maybe when the whole album comes out, there will be some kind of connected tone throughout it.

Compared to most music, I'd say these are okay, though I must compare it to Gorillaz other work - and i gotta say... they're not great, though Andromeda and We Got the Power might be able to be salvaged in the context of the album.

And Nobody really expected it to be Demon Days 2. Gorillaz fans just want funky and melancholy with some really tight, and borderline aggresive rapping and moody dreamy singing. That's kinda 4/5 of the Gorillaz schtick.

It's pretty much Plastic Beach 2.0, which isn't necessarily bad, just pretty disappointing.

I'm still giving them all occasional listens but I don't think any of them are even hitting 6/10 territory. Saturnz Barz is especially disappointing because it actually would be fantastic through and through if not for Popcaan. I like the instrumental and I like Damon's part but Popcaan just grates. Meanwhile, the other songs are just subpar to mediocre. I do not have high hopes for this album.

Well, loosely. There's a quirkiness to their proceedings and they've always had a trip-hop backbone, but even then they were always less Portishead and more Cibo Matto who were pretty gimmicky in and of themselves. And that's just the music, ignoring the whole visual component of their music which is one huge gimmick or how their music has come to act as a podium for a variety of eclectic features to get some spotlight. I dunno, I like Gorillaz and all but they're pretty gimmicky man.

Give it time.

The only song I genuinely don't like is Saturn Barz.

I am a long time Gorillaz fan and to be honest when I first heard the songs I was very skeptical about the new direction but just like with Plastic Beach; a couple more listens & I started to see the songs for what they are and I actually quite dig them (Except Saturn Barz. Not even the instrumentation is that great)

Aside from We Got the Power, they're the worst Gorillaz songs I've ever heard and I've been a fan since day one and I even liked Plastic Beach.

Nah, White Light's alright. It's basically Demon Days' answer to Punk. DARE was the shitty song on Demon Days and should've been replaced with People. Otherwise, the album did have a dystopian theme and I can kind of see how very good songs like Hong Kong or Stop The Dams got relegated to B-sides. I mean whatever, it mades D-Sides a worthwhile record in its own right.

I love The Magic Whip, but even when it's just Damon singing, Gorillaz songs feel way different from Blur.

I've always liked their collaboration tracks but there is literally one song that is not Gorillaz feat. X in the entire album and that feels like overdoing the invited artists part honestly.
