Recommend me layered albums. I want a ridiculous headphone experience. I want music that has lots going on all over the place. Instruments coming in at all different times and places.
>>71809020
Any non-ambient album by Aphex Twin
>>71809020
This senpai. I recommend "Champagne Year" off of it. Give it a chance there's a lot of reasons to go back to it for multiple listens.
>>71809020
Remain in Light, but the 5.1 downmix version (or the actual DTS versions)
My Life in the Bush of Ghosts
Dark side of the mooon
>>71809057
I've never been a fan of Aphex in general. As terrible as it sounds I honestly get bored by his music .
>>71809020
This too.
>>71809020
You have to listen to Stadium Arcadium, then.
>>71809101
I've been wanting to get into St. Vincent for a while now. This might be the trigger.
>>71809020
Hop Along - Get Disowned
They're album Painted Shut is pretty good too.
Black foliage animation music is essential headphone listening
todd rundgren - a wizard, true star is exactly what u want
>>71809148
"Strange Mercy" (the song), Northern Lights, and the bonus track "This Wave" are good ones
>>71809020
Apparently Siamese Dream has 100 layers going on at any given time
>>71809020
Arcade Fire -The Funeral
Arcade Fire - The Suburbs
I'm not digging too deep but these are their most memorable albums. Their while discography really.
By the way I'm a huge hip hop fan too if that helps. If there are any stand out hip hop albums that have crazy layered production, let me know.
>>71809200
Yeah? I'll have to test that theory. I've honestly never bothered to listen to the pumpkins.
>>71809249
Everybody knows about Jolla. This is probably his second best album behind donuts. Its a step below but there are melodic little dittys [outro (wish it was longer), Believe in God, The Look]
>>71809148
The end of "Surgeon" (don't skip anon) is pretty dense too.
the amount of stuff going on during the climax/chorus of Limousine is unbelievable sometimes. It's really well done.
>>71809516
Thanks mate.
>>71809361
Thanks!
Bump. Give the man some recs. This shouldn't be too hard.
>it's so dense every single track has so many things going on
the album
>>71809892
hes got another recs for a month
>>71809905
Cheers bruh.
>>71809909
I want like 30 albums to keep me going for years. I work in a job where I can listen to music all day.
>>71809909
He needs more.
>>71809936
no problem
most of their other albums also fit the bill for the thread but october rust is their sonic masterpiece
first listen was really hard since theres so much shit going on along with his nice voice
Obligatory.
>>71810030
All good man I'll definitely be listening to it.
>>71810115
Never liked it. Even after nearly 20 listens through. Sorry. I know how contrarian that sounds.
>>71810222
also their first album is an all around masterpiece, i would definitely reccomend not doing anything else when you listen to that one. you'll understand why when you hear it
>>71810094
You mean his annoying voice
Essential
Sparklehorse - It's a Wondearful Life
Sparklehorse - Dreamt for Light Years in the Belly of a Mountain
Too bad he killed himself. He made really ornate, indie pop/rock songs that have really diverse influences.
>>71809020
>>71809959
Man you might even have to find some on your own then bud
Some real dense guitar work on this
>>71810892
True that.
Siamese Dream is essential Layer-Core
Also Merriweather Post Pavilion.
>>71809020
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boards_of_Canada_discography
>>71809119
That's mostly understandable.
>>71810565
Definitely seconding this
>>71809020
This is offtopic but I've always had the unpopular opinion that Fitter Happier is the best track on OK Computer
/blog
>>71811813
>the insane riffage on patriot
i saw that shit live and everyone acted like they had never see anyone play a guitar before
Hearing the drums come in on scatter brain is orgasmic
>>71812031
Incredible album.
>>71809020
Try listening to classical music played by a symphony?
Ricardo Villalobos music, deep mixes
The Orb - Orbus Terrarum
Shpongle first few albums
>>71812262
>played by a symphony
Most Neo-Psychedelia is pretty layered
Already posted one but this one's great too.
>>71812475
as opposed to say, a quartet
/goat/
>>71812031
HELLLL YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
>>71809200
A lot of the layers are just Billy playing the same thing with a different guitar tone to make it sound stupid thiccc
>>71811916
You fuckin yuppie
This is something I made with that intention
https://clyp.it/iq0iux5b
lots of things going on/panning, you'll prolly hear something new each time.
>>71809249
Flying lotus, Los Angeles and Cosmogramma
>>71809249
bladee - eversince
>>71809020
>>71813587
That's a very minimal album though.
Thick as all hell, drone-y.
>>71810397
>never liked it
Pshh I was like you, once it clicks prepare for a magical eargasm of sound.
>>71813650
I mean, I guess, but the sounds fill up the headphones and make it really full and beautiful
>>71809020
A lot of Of Montreal is super densely layered. Coquelicot Asleep in the Poppies is my personal favorite. It's very psychedelic. If you prefer synth and drum machine layering I'd recommend Hissing Fauna and Parylitic Stalks.
>>71809020
Long Season is an obvious answer that's not in here yet
Also Flying Lotus as someone else said
>>71814438
this
Since you said you like hip hop definitely check out All Screwed Up by DJ Screw
Also it's hated a lot, but Centipede Hz by Animal Collective does the super layered thing well too
DJ Sprinkles - Midtown 120 Blues
DJ Sprinkles - Where the dance floor stands still
Gybe - Anything? maybe start with F#A# or LYSF
My Bloody Valentine - Loveless
Max Graef - Rivers of a red planet
Various Artists - And Suddenly Its Morning
Pink Floyd - Animals, DSOTM, Meddle
Tortoise - TNT
Mogwai - The Hawk Is Howling
Anything by Driftwood Records
John Hopkins - Immunity
Flying Lotus
Do Make Say Think - Goodbye Enemy Airship The Landlord Is Dead
Talk Talk - Any Album
Michael Mayer - Immer
>>71815137
I second this
Tons of stuff going on in this album all the time, it's great.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JljUyMOS5jg
>>71809148
I'd recommend Actor instead, but you can't go wrong with Strange Mercy, I suppose.
>>71815573
my nig.
>>71810397
Have you tried listening through different mediums, with headphones, through speakers?
>>71809020
NIN - The Fragile & The Downward Spiral
>>71809020
>>71812031
>>71810565
>>71810561
seconding these
>>71809249
ATLiens and Aquemini
>>71812742
This. After the Flood is transcendental
This is probably my favorite album, it has such a fucking dense guitar sound throughout
>>71814264
Never listened to Bowery Electric but I always liked their album covers, they look kinda cozy yet depressed at the same time.
>>71809020
Don't listen to anyone else before this because I'm more right than everyone.
>>71809148
>>71809148
Seeing her play 'surgeon' live convinced me
>>71821093
Her fingers are ridiculous. Its crazy that they can move that fast. Listen to the whole album and Actor is pretty good too.
>>71809020
>>71809020
>I want music that has lots going on all over the place. Instruments coming in at all different times and places.
I FINALLY FUCKING UNDERSTAND THIS BOARD!
All this time I've been wondering why /mu/ seems to hold such obsessive interest in obscure, mundane and odd things, or why most here seem to latch on to some shit ironically, then end up worshipping it.
It's just that the majority of people here are actually legitimately non-meme autistic/aspergers.
I finally understand.
>>71819256
I mean you are essentially right
>>71821182
yes dad ^THIS^
>>71821183
This a meme-free thread. Nobody asked for your shitpost.
>>71821198
Also this one
Seriously, listen to Yosi Horikawa - Wandering
Take your cans listening to another dimension.
The Downward Spiral
Any plunderphonics album is pretty multilayered desu
>>71821308
"layered" and "littered with samples" are two different things anon.
>>71809146
Just threw up in my mouth a little bit, thanks
>>71809152
*their
>>71811916
I agree
>>71821392
THEY'RE a great band. THEIR album is playing on that turntable over THERE
>>71821308
Yes.
>>71821352
"Instruments coming in at all different times and places" would be accurate tho.
Also try this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37tRJPbRaYM
>>71809020
This is insanely layered, definetly more layered than any album I've heard in this thread.
Better still, see them live if you get the opportunity.
>>71809020
>>71809152
>>71809586
>>71810565
>>71812031
Seconding these, and also suggesting Fall be Kind and MPP
>>71809146
You are fucking stupid, this album is basically mono
>>71810397

>>71812742

The War On Drugs - Lost In The Dream
>>71809249
Autechre - Draft 7.30
>>71809146
RHCP is my favorite band, and I'd say By the Way is far more layered.
