I have very mixed feelings about this game. I have to start by saying that it includes one of the most dehumanizing portrayals I've ever seen of an implied to be trans person (and that really does take effort, considering how dehumanizing most portrayals have been in general of trans people across the decades...); it was also rather poor writing to use the trans twist. It seems like Chihiro was not meant to be an actual trans character, but the reasoning given (he was too weak so he disguised himself as a girl) is crazy, and it could misinformedly imply that's why trans people transition. and in general quite a fair amount of bad humour (which would unfortunately go on to be even way more prevalent in the second installment of this series).

Now that that's out of the way, I have to say that this game has a lot of very likeable characters, which, together with the story and its mystery easily draw you in; it is really atmospheric - it has a rather unique creepy, yet cool, dense claustrophobic atmosphere that is further aided by the OST; and the English dubs were fitting.

So despite the fact that it had its fair share of very offensive material, it also happens to have some of my most favourite characters of all time, and the later cases and second half of the story (especially with the atmosphere and OST adding to the suspense) were stellar enough for me to have cognitive dissonance about it and ignore the bad parts as best as I could - which is a testament to the positive aspects of the game.

In mario bros you play as the titular character and go around in a single screen game deafeating enemies. The objective is to chase the highscore. In order to defeat an enemy, you must jump below the platform its walking on to flip it upside down and only then can you defeat it. It starts off easy but grown in difficulty by adding more enemies and projectiles on screen. It can get pretty hectic. But in the end it lacks the polish in jumping and moving that made the following nintendo games such worldwide classics. Since it is an endless game it also gets boring after a short while.

Mercenarion somehow thinks Ildjarn's "Landscapes" is worth anything higher than a 0.5 yet downrates The Raunchous Brothers quite possibly on account of their politics.

"Landscapes" lowers the bar of "zero content" to a level no drone band could ever reach and that even a blank CD-r has problems coming close to the sheer absence of quality that is Ildjarn's mindless ambient noodling. It's as if this was a self-parody of the kind of extreme minimalism and repetition we have come to expect from Ildjarn, taken to absurd extremes beyond any serious or sensible level. Three-note drones on one synthesizer never changing tone or the instrument simulated, for a duration exceeding two full hours, that's definitely taking it far beyond better judgement. It's like Ildjarn was playing one big practical joke on his fans.

Nothing breaks the dullness. No changes in tone or changes in tempo/rhythm or changes in texture, it just meanders along endlessly, always the same no matter which track you skip to or which point within each particular song you forward or rewind to.

People may claim that this is the type of ambience you can lose yourself to, and this is indeed possible. However, what this doesn't do is to enhance the experience of losing yourself or increase your chances of losing yourself. If you lie back in silence and let your mind drift off, or if you lie back with this record on and let your mind drift off, the two experiences will not differ.
