>>
>>71783049
It's both.
>>
>>71783049
nothing wrong with it, it's good for organizing basic major/minor chord shapes and scales up and down the neck.

it kind of falls apart if you want to get into anything other than simple major and minor chords/scales though, like for example a simple dom7 chord, it gets really messy trying to organize positions with a dom7 like they do with maj/min chords in the caged system.

Is it too bad if i cant count bars during a solo?
My band is doing War Pigs and i can't for fucks sake improvise for the same bars as the recording.
Like it has that major riff, then solo, then a bar of just E, then more solo. I cant count that i just fuck around and then the band catches when i do that last deum-deum bend thats on the end of the solo

their thunderbird isn't that shabby, it's a powerful bass and the epiphone version isn't all that bad

i always wanted to get the sg looking eb basses because of their wooly tone... sadly you always be lost in the mix

for you pedal junkies and other bassists, i'm looking to get an overdrive pedal to mimic those sexy sounding pushed to the max tube amp sound from the 70's like Geezer Butler's tone

so far i've come to like
>Fulltone OCD
>DOD Overdrive Preamp 250
>Earthquaker Devices Monarch
>Way Huge Pork Loin
>MXR Bass Overdrive
>Tech 21 Leeds

but the catch is that I'm pairing it up with Earthquaker Devices Acapulco Gold, have been using it as a distortion pedal but i'm thinking of either adding a great fuzz pedal or another distortion pedal like the Turbo Rat into the chain before the Acapulco Gold and use the Gold as a sort of dirty volume boost

in summary, any recommendations for that overdrive pedal and a new fuzz/distortion pedal that'll go great with the Acapulco Gold?

I'm using a Darkglass B3K myself and it's pretty great (but pricy). It's one of the few pedals that allows for a nice crunchy sound without losing too much lows, work well for both active and passive basses as long as you blend it properly. I don't know how it would sound with your other pedals though, as I never used it in conjunction with other distortion/fuzz/overdriver pedals.

People (myself included) judge capo use because many guitarists that I would call amateur use the capo rather than learn chord voicings.

That being said, there are genuine uses for capos, and I own one and have occasionally used it. I value having a good vocabulary of chords, but if that isn't something you care about then it doesn't matter.

I can hit the notes fine and everything but my voice just sounds kind of weak and bland in general. I've tried both higher and lower registers and I don't either one is a big improvement. I've tried listening to bands and singers that I like to try and get an idea of a different style but nothing has stuck there either.

Any advice? They're expecting me to be able to sing and I wish there was a way to get my voice somewhere that I'm comfortable with.

>I started working more on my lead vocals, while still playing the drums. Inspired by Rob Halford of Judas Priest and Ian Gillan of Deep Purple, I practiced working on singing while riding my motorcycle. No doubt this is the reason for my loud voice, while singing over the pitch of the engine and the wind in my face.

Doing warmups is the fastest way. Look some up. Do plenty of lip rolls. Beyond that try to sing with fuller vowels by exaggerating and opening your mouth very wide on each syllable.

Also try singing in various accents. You'll be surprised how different certain parts of songs will change. Then you can try to duplicate the feeling you get on your best notes to develop what register you are most comfortable in.

Fretboard dont. affect. sound.
So mane effect tube sEQ and then its direct through a Shure SM57 or PA for mastering.

Then you have Kemper, axes FX and solid state amp that will no care about the wood and make anything the sound of the amp anyway.

If you DO believe in this shit of feetboard sound, you HAVE to take ebony fretboard.

What's the logic behind putting the bridge pickup on Strats crooked?
>>
>>71784099
That pickguard looks disgusting.
>>
>>71790081
It's true that the first SGs were actually called Les Pauls but SG actually means 'Solid Guitar'

Anywho I had the SG first but really wanted a Les Paul so I ended up getting the Heritage. I don't really have any interest in a Tele and I already had a LTD with a Floyd which I sold.

I've played a Gretsch which was pretty nice and sounded good but it's not all that different to the LP and SG. I don't think there's another electric I really want besides maybe a bass. I do want a nice steel 6 string acoustic and maybe a 12 string too, not sure if electric or acoustic though.

>>71790177
REEE there is nothing wrong with brown tortoiseshell
>>
>>71790100
There isn't any concrete logic I know of, but it does obviously affect the tone. When using the bridge pickup there will be a greater difference in tone between lower and higher strings. This can be nice for things like bluegrass where you might be playing the bassline with your thumb.
>>
>>71790212
I have a 12 string acoustic and I'm not a huge fan. There's a lot of ways it's worse than a 6 string, and the tone is hard to use. I'm going to sell/trade it for a mandolin.
>>
>>71790305
what about an electric 12 then?
>>
>>71790339
I haven't played one but I suspect it would solve many of the problems the acoustic has, simply by having lower tension strings. Also with effects obviously you can slip it in to a lot more songs.

Still I'd prefer a mandolin. Does the things the 12 string does best better. Especially because it's tuned to 5ths.

Fuck this place.

Doing any kind of painting or woodworking is impossible here because Chicago has the most bipolar climate in north america. It was 70 degrees yesterday and now its in the 40's and raining constantly, the week before that we got a foot of snow and it melted the next day entirely because the temperature went back up to 55 and sunny.

Anyway, the actual problem I'm bitching about it the goddamn humidity change because the weather is never constant. I applied a whole coat of paint to a project guitar of mine yesterday and now its wrinkled up and ruined because the temperature dropped 30 degrees and the rain shot the humidity way too high.

I give up, every time I've tried to do a painting project it is destroyed before it dries.
>>

>>
>>71781085
I want a steel string guitar, ideally 45mm+ nut width (I hate the narrow string spacing on my electric). How much do I need to spend to get a guitar with proper intonation and decently low action? I'd like a solid top as well. Cutaway and pickup are a plus. Dreadnought or jumbo body shape probably.
Can someone point me in the right direction?
>>
>>71792037
>>71792095

No offense, but what's you're point? Every fucking city in the US that isn't San Diego has these problems. The rest of us get by. Ever heard the saying about Chicago..."Don't like the weather? Wait 15 minutes!". We've all heard it, and not about Chicago. I live in central Texas. Redneck farmers say it all the time. Why? Because it's true.

I've got 26 guitars, and the changes in humidity and barometric pressure affect them all. Just have to make do and learn how to basic luthier.

(Also, I was in Denver last week. Talk to them about bipolar weather...)

Was it a nurse talking to a doctor?
Here is the conversation that takes place between the Nurse and the Doctor, and eventually the Doctor and the Patient.]

Lost Keys
[voices fading in]

[Nurse:] Excuse me? Doctor? Do you have a moment?

[Doctor:] A moment? What's the question?

[Nurse:] More of a situation, a gentleman in exam 3.

[Doctor:] What's the problem?

[Nurse:] That is the problem, we're not sure.

[Doctor:] You got the chart?

[Nurse:] Right here.

[Doctor:] Not much here to say

[Nurse:] No doctor, no obvious physical trauma. Vitals are stable.

[Doctor:] Name?

[Nurse:] No sir.

[Doctor:] Did someone drop him off?
Maybe we could speak to them.
Let's get some background on this fella.

[Nurse:] No ID. Nothing
[heavy breathing in background]
And he won't speak to anybody.

[Doctor:] Well, let's say hello.
Good Morning, I'm Dr. Lawson.
How are you today? How - are - you today?!
Look son, you're in a safe place.
We wanna help in whatever way we can.
But you need to talk to us.
We can't help you otherwise.

Acoustic nut width for most dreadnaughts is 1 11/16" so you'll be fine with anything off the shelf. If you think you can tell the difference in 1/16" across 6 strings I'll punch you in the dick.

Intonation and action are a product of setting the guitar up properly, so $0 extra. Find a cheap Yamaha or Takamine. Should meet those minimal specs.

>If you think you can tell the difference in 1/16" across 6 strings I'll punch you in the dick
My electric has a 42mm nut width, most classicals have 50-52mm as far as I know.
I wanted something in between, hence 45mm+. 46-48mm would be ideal IMO.
I know it may sound silly but in regards to setup, don't they come setup from the factory? I can obviously to the setup on an electric but I can't do it for an acoustic where I'd need to file the saddle.
>>
>>71792545
(I's just making a joke. 1 11/16 vs 1 3/4 minimum. All I was saying is, get a standard dreadnaught or dnaught w/cutaway and that'll meet your needs.)

1 9/16 can be found on some electrics, 1 5/8 to 1 11/16 is more common. So if you get a standard dreadnaught it should meet those requirements.

Don't rely on setup for a used guitar. But if you're buying new, especially from like Musicians Friend or something, it should be set up from the factory. Unless you play ultra high-tuning or deep-tuning, or some crazy string setup. It'll be fine from the factory.

I own American PRSes, full on ESPs, Fender custom shops and other high end shit and my most recent project and acquisition was a Silverburst MiM Tele that I stripped and put Piledrivers in. Guess what? It has just as good intonation, tuning stability, playability and SUPERIOR sound thanks to the upgraded pickups to most stock shit in the £3k+ range.

LMAO @ the insinuation that Gibson are a bad company by any stretch. They've had their controversies, but the only people who say this are people who can't afford one. anyways, how would you compare it to the rgd2127fx? right now i can pickup the prestige rgd for 1350 australian bucks, and the guitar i want is 1425 bucks. problem is that i heard the stock pickups arent that great, and theres no locking tuners so im gonna have to shell out another 400 bucks. it comes with a hardcase too but i already have one so i dont really care about it.

some retard says this every time it's posted lmao

EGCs sound phenomenal, real steinbergers with pickups in them sound phenomenal

it doesnt matter
>>
just got the Charvel Guthrie Govan model.

not a fan of Guthrie, but i LOVE the baked flame maple neck, extra large jumbo SS frets, and the body with light oil finish. you can really feel the wood vibrate, and it smells delicious.

over 30 years and hundreds of guitars, it's the best playing guitar i have ever owned. too damn expensive tho....but with Fender and other boutique makers charging up into the 5 figures for a good S style guitar, i guess the Charvel isn't outrageously expensive...

Is this how metalfags think?
Its the opposite, one dont need a real good guitar to get distorted tone
>>
>>71796967
I actually quite like the look of a couple of them, but the massive CHAPMAN squiggle on the headstock really puts me off. Looks cheap and meme tier
>>
>>71799361
they don't sound any better with distortion m8
if there was ever a real meme machine aluminum guitars are it
>>
>>71799312

Couldn't they have used someone that actually can play?
>>
>>71799377
>one dont need a real good guitar to get distorted tone

That's what I'm saying, most people who buy EGCs play them with distortion probably because the clean tone sucks dick. Aluminum Neck guitars are just a meme, more of a fashion statement than anything.
>>
>>71799424
Ah you said no one plays them clean
I didnt read it right my bad
I agree with that
>>
>>71799407
they couldn't find one if they tried. a real guitarist wouldn't be caught dead with one of those things m8. the main problem is that they don't stay in tune but they sound thin and shrill to boot

can someone explain what a parallel key is? so if i wanna write something in Am, does that mean I can switch to F# major key, but the "parallel key" is A major.

so does this mean i can move between 3 keys essentially? still trying to grasp this music theory shit. i was just gonna start doing something basic with Am and use its relative major (if i said that right) to write some stuff.

you can get basically the same angle of top wrapping by just raising the tailpiece. i dont know what is with top wrapping retards and trying to convince people that top wrapping is better. it's not, you are just scratching up your tailpiece for literally no reason
>>
>>71799780
no, the parallel key of Am is just Amaj

Mexican Strat, best bargain out there, and regular toan machine. Be sure and get that punchy maple fretboard. Sunburst is always made with 2 pieces wood rather than three.

Don't think of it like that. The term parallel minor and relative minor are bullshit.

Key of C major. No sharps or flats. Neutral key signature.

There are 3.5 minor keys or modes, and 3 major keys. The .5 comes from the bm7b5.

You can pretty much make any of those 7 modes our root to your key.

If you want to change keys, as in add in sharps or flats, you can't just use a simple method or trick. It doesn't work like that.
>>
>>71799831
oops i saw the mistake and forgot to fix it prior to hitting post. i think im just gonna forget about parallel keys for now and work on getting the basic stuff down.

Best tube head for the money. Perfect dirt, searing lead tone, and YES good cleans. How 'bout independant reverb for each channel, heh?

It gets way worse towards the end.

He takes a shot at Lee for not hiring a bigger venue because some clinic he was putting on was full.

"The problem is that the venues in town are either 200 capacity or 1200. Too bad you aren't 6 times as popular."

PRS can't compete with British bantz.

New thread. When? And add the Initals you mangoloid

Also will a Jazz Bass neck fit on a PBass? Or can I route PBass pickups to replace the neck jazz pickup? I feel the answer would be yes like swapping a Strat and Tele neck and the only issue for the bass would be a new pickguard and wiring/soldering
