frequent music stores and think outside the box. the 94 lp studio had a chambered body which is bad for gibson purists. on top of that its relatively beat up, but its a studio, you're already bailing on the binding and finish as it is. it plays like a dream however and has dat ebony

Hi /gg/, assuming there's any TOOL fans lurking,
I picked up this Agile AL-2000 Silverburst in the vintage style. I don't have $3000 to throw into a 79 Silverburst, but I had $300 and it got me this thing.
Really a excellently crafted guitar.

I talked to Agile and confirmed that they use polyurethane finish on the 2000 series les pauls. So assuming the guitar is given a lot of UV exposure over like 20-30 years, the finish should start to yellow.

currently have a ~5 year old fender mexican jazz
have never made any adjustments to it besides changing the strings
realize recently that my action is way too high and that the truss could use some adjustment
decide to adjust truss by two 1/4 turns done with an half hour rest in between
it already seems to play much better, but i'm worried that more adjustments from here may bust my truss

Adjust the bridge. Also, you know what it feels like when you adjust the truss rod already... if you turn the rod and you start to feel more resistance than you did the rest of the time, stop. It will get to a point where it's at full adjust and it won't go farther. Dont force it past that point. But you probably won't need to get close to that point

The one vol is a throw back to the 80's and using the volume knob for dynamics with a one channel amp. From full on crunch and lowing the volume for your "cleans". It does have a cap on the volume pot. A lot of people never use the tone knobs. People sometime just wire the humbucker straight to the jack for max power

Kinda sorta used to agree with this. I still like having the tone knob for peace of mind since with out if phase options I have some pretty harsh sounds available.

Why I don't think this any more is because now I modified my tone pot to be no-load. Having the ability to switch between truly bypassed(past 10 to put it simply) and a slight super top end cut(full open on a standard tone control) can be very nice. After all, a lot of effects, amps, and simply songs are intended to be used without that high end somewhat rare among guitars.

Not having a tone pot is not quite like just not touching your tone pot. Even when your tone is cranked, some graphite(resistance) is between the wipers of the potentiometer, so some signal passes through the capacitor. Because of the way capacitance works, this has a disproportionate effect on the higher end than we typically associate with tone controls. The capacitance we're talking about is very small, in the same territory as the difference between a scatter wound pickup and straight wound. It's kinda like having a short guitar lead versus a long one to your amp or buffer.

So hey, a no load tone pot can be a simple and free way to cope with a long guitar lead.

Yeah thats what charvel do on all their guitars now.

Still, on your "Balls to the wall V metal guitar in drop F tuning" You dont need a tine knob or even a pickup other than the bridge.

Its also about how it looks desu.
A charvel or equivalent with 1 mic, 1 knob, 1 Floyd looks pretry good.

Because i didn't really want to go to college after hs but my parents said a degree is the only way to get a non retail/fast food job nowadays (even though i didn't mind those jobs in his) so i figured i might as well go to college and after a year and a half in i realised i hated my engineering classes and wanted to drop out but had already accumulated a decent amount of loans and felt i was already committed so i switched to political science which was much more interesting (and easier obv) and another 2years later here we are.
I mean i have connections in my field and could probably get a job as a congressional staffer or something similar when i get my degree but now I'm kinda disillusioned with the whole thing

Why? Literally it's 4 people who post the same pics of their $2000 a piece guitars and $15,000 worth of amps without any posts or replies about actual guitar playing and the regular amount of shitposts about guitar manufacturers or memeguitarists.

Aw c'mon we have fun every now and then. Maybe it's a little more nonsense than OC, but you can always help by posting about news like new gear releases, things you recently learned on or about guitar, anything /diy/, and neat guitars and guitar playing you run across online. Questions about those topics are also nice. You can also post clyps of you turning all your distortion and playing 0-0-0-0-0-0.

For example, pic related. Bought heat shrink today to wrap up the wiring. I may also start a fret level tonight.

Personally I want people to post news relating to new tech and gear. I don't keep up with that stuff very well.
>>
>>71773305
I dunno but I finally found a site that sells 1 meg reverse logarithmic potentiometers for cheap. Tayda electronics. Really good prices and shipping, easy to pick up every component you need for mods or pedals there. Also got an elusive 4 pole 4 throw rotary switch there(see Gibson eb-3).

It's a pretty easy mod.

It's really hard to find a guitar that you're comfortable with when first starting out.
My first guitar was a slim neck fender scale electric, and I couldn't get the hang of it.
Eventually I started playing my then gfs epiphone lp jr and I had a lot more fun, leading to me investing in an ES-335 Pro and vox ac4 (my first amp was an orange crush).
Down the line a few years, after being out of playing for a while, I picked up a used Japanese Fender Jaguar and a Princeton Reverb. I'm a lot happier now.

So for $2000 you could pick up a nice amp and a nice guitar, or you could start cheaper and spend money on lessons. The links are helpful, but some people learn faster in a one on one environment.

I say you should look up the guitar/amp used by the musicians you wish to emulate, watch live videos of them playing, and get a feel for how you can comfortably play. If you want to play acoustic, your budget is well within the realm of a good guitar.

It also helps to find something that you like the look of when you're starting out, so that you feel good playing it.

In short, I've heard a lot of good things about the squier offset guitars, and their classic vibe series. If you can find one of those used, you can easily resell it for what you paid if you decide not to play. Plus you can futz about with it and not feel too guilty.
Sticking to the thread topic, a nice tube amp should be a bigger investment than your guitar if you want to blow your whole budget.

But I don't know you, I'm mostly just blogging about myself.

tl;dr do whatever feels right and change if things feel wrong until you're satisfied
>>
>>71771510
Changing the value of your caps will change your tone, however the material used is completely irrelevant. Buy a few cheap caps of different values and crocodile clip them in and then solder up what you like best.

My SX it's always needing contact spray because of the shitty hardware. I've shielded the whole guitar too, but it's always making shitty cracking noises from the jack. I've even replaced the jack, the solder is fine, I guess I would need to replace the whole hardware.
The pickups and the action are fine (I replaced both pickups).
>>
>>71776169

what's the better alternative in your opinion then senpai desu?
>>
>>71776187
Stick to the mustang or jaguar, depends on if you prefer the body shape and switches. Although the Cyclone is cool it's just not what it can be. At least it looks better and is a truer Jaguar/Mustang cross than the Jagstang. What are you going for quirky indie looks? Then get the Ryan Jarman signature
>>
>>71776184
Just bend the jack to be tighter. Also turn the pots back and forth a lot.

In my experience, I've always bought cheap pots and haven't had issues as long as I break them in. I would guess using a lot of contact cleaner could be exacerbating the problem.

One of the reasons a lot of other fenders put the jacks on the front is because the tele jack can get bent easily. When you bend it back try to put your cable through your strap more often. A right angle jack that is also put over the strap is nice and gentle.

Some people replace them with an electrosocket brand one.

How to modulate to new keys WELL? How to chose the key to modulate to?

For example Portal's song on the chorus goes from D to F https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZN-I3exT-c

lots of details like 4k video and nfc, but the main thing is a completely new autofocus system which is the absolute weakness of the 6D. not in a way that it's bad, it's just ancient compared to everything else on the market, even when the camera was brand new since the AF was derived from the old 5DII. the new system will be top notch and much easier to use reliably, the rumored specs look great

>>
>>71777402
no, that's the lense/sensor area combination. any camera can do that
the thing is just simply put the 6D needs some thinking and getting used to to have it actually focus exactly where you want it in every shot, especially if you don't know the dinosaur dslrs
it's not a huge issue, especially not in a controlled environment where you can just try and error, but a lot of people had problems with that when it came out because they were used to entry level cameras that allow a point-and-shoot mentality and got the 6D because it's cheapish and missed focus on half their shots.
the new one will basically be the best of both, a semi pro full frame that reliably works full auto if you want it to
>>
>>71777500

So I have this MIM strat (pic related) that came with white plastic volume and tone knobs. I switched them out for some tele-style domed knobs, but because the pots are split shaft, they feel gross to turn and occasionally slip. So I was thinking about replacing the pots with 250k solid shaft ones (like on a telecaster) to improve the knobs, and was wondering if pots can just be switched out or if they have different measurements that would make compatibility an issue. Sorry if that's a stupid question.

When you Google 4chan with a cleared browser (all cookies deleted, history cleared, etc.) /pol/ is the first board listed because it's the most popular board on the site.
>>
>>71778781
its not anymore actually
>>
>>71778484
why though

Yeah that's right, but /b/ is completely unlisted in the site statistics altogether. Google isn't any reliable way to determine what's popular. Go google NVMP and you'll see one of my threads (make NVMP great again) at the very top. That's nowhere near as popular as the FAQ thread let alone the home page.

Go have a look at the 4chan site statistics: https://catalog.neet.tv/stats.html

/b/b is unlisted, but I can guarantee you that whole damn board has been way more popular than any other for many years.

lol, that's not how a search engine works.
>but I can guarantee you
Yeah, you'll have to excuse me while I dismiss your baseless speculations over here.

What's a good bass amp? Not looking to spend a ton.

Home, sorry.

$300 is the max I'm willing to spend

It's been two hours since I started to fo the justinguitar guides and I still can't do the D chord. Am I to retarded for this or is it that hard
>>
>>71779321
If you just want a cheap practice amp, think about a Rumble 40 maybe

The D chord isn't hard, it's just that it takes a while for you to get used to the fretboard (also you might have fat fingers). Just give it time and don't get frustrated
>>
>>71771510
Have you tried fucking with the rollers and switch you fucking mangoloid? Also you should've bought a Strat, every JM I've played i only like when it sounded stratty specifically the neck tone.
>>
>>71779342
there's a learning curve, brah. building finger dexterity was one of the hurdles i am still trying to get over. just keep practicing!
>>
>>71771180
I know the bridge is a Chinese piece of shit so they usually get changed for Duncan's but what's wrong with the Wide Range neck? I was gunna get an HH Tele with them equipped and now I'm weary
>>
>>71779342
I think that's normal but I don't really remember.

D is probably the easiest chord to play though.

Just wait til you get to barre chords.

I played nothing but single note lines for like a year. Progressed to power chords and then eventually open chords.
>>

theres some ampeg combos at that price range. fender rumble. acoustic has that b30 model that is quite popular.
>>
Is it better to start on bass or guitar?
>>
>>71773147
You probably need new pickups, the 2016 short scales are a brand name away from being an unnoticed Squier

Do you want to play the bass or guitar anon?

Bands are always looking for bassists if that's your main motivation.

I find playing single notes on bass are harder for the left hand.

It seems like the only way to git gud is to get an actual teacher learning jazz or music theory instead of "lol lemme read you the TABs off UG" should I take lessons from a Berkelee graduate at $25 an hour $100 a month or pay my local community college $400 a semester to get lessons from their guitar wizard that also teaches at other top universities in the State?
So far I can improvise but rely heavily on the pentatonic scale and play power chords and a handful of other non open shapes. I just wanna get good enough to dissect other guitarists playing and incorporate their style into mine like if I hear Johnny Marr or Tom Verlaine I can immediately pickup what they've just played
>>
>>71779489
guitar. bass is boring
>>
>>71779489
Guitar but when you join a band they'll force you to play bass anyways so you'll have some background knowledge and be able to naturally transfer
>>

Tell me about it - I wish I'd got one of those Yamaha lunchbox things as a practice amp instead. So good it's scary but got drawn in with the old >muh tubes and low wattage
>>
>>71778521

that guitar is the epitome of 1995
>>
>>71779608

CC for sure. Berklee performance grads are often pretty trash teachers if you dont already have chops in my experience (lived 400 yards from Berkeley for 6 years)
>>
>>71779775

its barely a tube amp anyway. Almost all of the gain is from the IC and Diode sections of the preamp, and a significant portion of the power amp is Solid State as well.

Not that that's an excuse for sounding like shit. Peavey bandits from 1990 sound better
>>
>>71779489
take a dedicated guitar player who has never played bass and hand them a bass, they will generally know what to do. the same isn't true vice-versa
>>
>>71779820
Yeah - its one of two amps i'm trying to get rid of. Probably easier to sell than the JCM 900 I recently got given (needed a fuckload of work doing to it)

>>
>>71779853

true, those old 100/50w 900s are almost hard to give away.

What's wrong with it and what model is it? Some of the 900s are worth fixing up and keeping around in my experience. Some are best just scrapped for parts and head shell though

Fender did it, it's a Mexican special edition line from the early 2000s. Some of them are pretty crazy looking, but they're actually not that badly priced ($500 or so for mine)

>>71779781
Yeah, I can see why people would find it tacky but I like it regardless

Thinskin jazzmaster will hold its value better. Only 50 were made in each color.

newbie here how do i switch chords faster
>>
>>71779999
pick 2 chords, switch between them as fast as you can and count how many you could do in a minute. get a metronome, add 5bpm to your old time, and keep practicing until you improve. then rinse and repeat with different chords.
>>
>>71779999
Nice quads. Practice them slow enough that you can do it smoothly, and then work your way up from there
>>
>>71779999
practice changes against a metronome. Start at a tempo slow enough that you dont fuck up at all, and speed up from there, making sure that you keep your changes clean.\

Fluency is the hardest thing for a newbie guitarist to learn. Dont get frustrated; everyone went through this part

Probably either a 9 or a 10 gauge. I think they normally come stock with 10s
