This was the worst year of the 80s for music. Try and dispute this.
I like the Rush, Aerosmith, and RunDMC records that came out that year. That's all I know about 1985. You're welcome for my detailed answer.

1982 was worse
1987 was worse.

your welcome !!

..............................it doesnt hurt me
1985 was the year the best Sonic Youth album came out. Therefore, it has merit.
>>71771891
WAY BEFORE NIRVANA THERE WAS
>>71771891
nigger what?
pretty much any year from the late 80s qualifies. At least they were still using some analog synths in 85. 86 onward was all plastic DX7 and M1/D50 bullshit.
Listen to the charts from 1987/88/89 and try not to kill yourself.
Death valley 69 was the SHIT!!!
>>71772044
This came out in 1984.
aoty
Is it a crime??
>>71771959
This.
1981-82 were just awful.
>>71772130
THE CURE
>>71772130
They were fine. There was a lot of good new wave, pop, classic rock, hip hop and punk coming out at the same time.
>>71772077
The late 80s was a strong period for metal, but pop and mainstream rock were at a low ebb.
>>71772130
1981 wasn't terrible but not as good as the two surrounding years. Also...
>1982
>bad year
What.

>Destruction - Sentence of Death
>Exodus - Bonded by Blood
>Rites of Spring - s/t
wew lad
>>71772077
>>71772240
1987 was pretty fucking terrible. There was just Bad, Appetite For Destruction, and Joshua Tree for significant albums. Not even a good year for metal.
>>71772130
81 and 82 were prime years for hardcore punk, but if you're not into that stuff then nevermind
>>71772392
Those are all meme albums.

This is like the horseshoe theory morons. "I'm so smart because I'm not like everyone else" GO FUCK YOURSELF YOU FUCKING RETARDED PIECE OF SHIT. Cool.
>>71772044
1984
>>71773035
1982 was a glorious year for both rock and pop. 1986 is mostly remembered for metal, although True Blue was definitely a major pop milestone.
>>71773076
I'm the second anon and I don't listen to much metal. I have a huge bias for 1986 because of The Queen Is Dead, which is my favorite album, but it also had Skylarking, Brotherhood Licensed to Ill, Parade, Live/1975-85, Kicking Against the Pricks, Graceland, Victorialand, Raising Hell, The Colour of Spring, Evol, Bend Sinister, Lifes Rich Pageant, Black Celebration, So, Horse Rotovator, Blood & Chocolate, London 0 Hull 4, Will the Wolf Survive, and C86.
1980: Great year for rock and New Wave.
1981: Van Halen, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, and Judas Priest had a hard time following up their '80 releases and their '81 efforts, while hardly bad, weren't quite as solid. New Wave generally wasn't as good as it had been in '80. Punk was riding high this year.
1982: Very solid assortment of hard rock/metal albums this year, along with some solid post-punk. New Wave was winding down and well on the way to commercialized cheese. And of course Thriller.
1983: Good year for metal, also a strong year for pop.
1984: Some good rock releases, not as many good pop records aside from Like A Virgin, and hair metal cheese is setting in. Run DMC's debut was essential to the development of hip-hop.
1985: A thin year all around; Live Aid was a far bigger deal than any studio releases.
1986: Metal, metal everywhere. Also the Aerosmith-Run DMC collaboration was one of those defining moments in popular music history.
1987: A lot of shitty garbage hair metal. Few releases from "real" metal bands. In the rock world, GNR and U2 clearly owned this year.
1988: Metal climbs back on top this year, Madonna continues to dominate the pop world. And a little thing called Straight Outta Compton.
1989: A weak year to end the decade with yet more bad hair metal everywhere.
