What is it about early Death Cab for Cutie that captures the early 2000s indie rock sound so well?

Everyone tried to be them
set your sites, destroy this party line
cuz it's so tired...
Pinback captures that time better.

I love this album, own it too
Cool blend of emo, slowcore, and 90's indie with somber and sweet atmosphere
I think it's easily their best album
Transantlanticism is good, so is Photobooth to a lesser extent. The former being a bit watered down in instrumentation and felt much less heartfelt
I'm glad someone else likes this as much as I do

they didn't really have a sound of their own, it was basically just an amalgam of all the indie rock of that era

they were indie hipsters with a fresh sound before liberal indie hipsters multiplied geometrically ruined EVERYTHING.
still got a soft spot for soul meets body even though i hate DCFC now.

>even though i hate DCFC now.
>"they were good before X, Y, or Z"
>"I liked them before blah blah.."
you are the worst kind of hipster btw
