Metal by Year: 70s swapouts and starting the 80s chart

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

I didn't get to finish the 70s one last night unfortunately due to the how late it was (I apologize for that)

So! We got some options! We can talk swapouts for the 70s chart, OR we can just dive right into the 80s. Your call. Let's have fun with this <3.

>>
>>71733397
Are you fucking high? There are way too many. Write the bands only and then a 4x4 e.g. Metallica - kea, rtl, mop, ajfo. Then if an important band only had one album then still just write the band but of course picture just that album. If the band has less than 4 albums then the best must be chosen to avoid a square of 2 or 3. However this is more work but far better use of the limited 120 squares.
>>
>>71733469
Bro this is how I've done LITERALLY every chart.

Doing 'artists' would be taking the easy way out

We are not fucking with the formula, Brian.
>>
>>71733492
How in the fuck is that the easy way out? We would have to find way more significant albums to fill the chart. Your way is a total copout wasting 4 squares for insanely obvious bands like metallica
>>
>>71733532
Fine, if you can get ONE person to back you up, I'll completely fuck up the format I've done literally every single genre chart I've done up to now just to satisfy you.
>>
1984
Cirith Ungol - King of the Dead
Jag Panzer- Ample Destruction

1985
Fates Warning - The Spectre Within

1987
-Motorhead - Rock 'n' Roll
+King Diamond - Abigail
>>
>>71733613
To satisfy me? Look at how many obvious bands are missing. 120 bands is arguably too few but it seems at least possible. 120 albums is laughable. This chart will not be taken seriously by anyone except plebs.
>>
>1988:
Morbid Saint - Spectrum of Death
Sadus - Illusions
Vio-lence - Eternal Nightmare
>>
>>71733661
>using plebs to justify your argument

The point of this isn't to include every damn metal album. It's to include a handful that /mu/ thinks are important/good.

Plus: Would I ONLY be doing this for the 80s? Would I have to change the ones for the other genres? This is the format I've done for the whole series and I see no reason to change it.

If it were 'so easy' to get 120 albums we'd have them by now. 120 albums is plenty of albums for a decade of a genre.

Also: What 'obvious bands'? They would have easily been included by now if you just said what albums to include. I can swap out ANY repeats.
>>
>>71733708
The big 4 aren't even included ru4reel
>>
>>71733737
Slayer, Metallica, and Megadeth are already on there.

All that's missing is Anthrax and I could easily throw one of their albums in.
>>
>>71733762

Among The Living, because that's the only thing Anthrax ever did worth a shit.
>>
>>

>>71733821
Nah, Fistful of Metal is the best.
>>
>>71733762
Oh ok I missed Megadeth but still. Well you're doing the work so it's up to you but coming up with 120 important metal bands from the 80s is very possible if not easy. Ill toss out one that I dont think you would be mentioned. Ministry who might even have a 4x4. Land of Rape and Honey, Mind Is Terrible Thing to Taste, Psalm 69 then maybe toss in the live album to get a 4x4. All of these albums are way more metal than at least some of the albums already listed.
>>
>>71733876
>coming up with 120 important metal bands
I'm sure we'll be up to 120 by the end of this.

We're doing metal charts for EVERY decade. Having 120 artists for one decade is frankly unnecessary. I understand you're very passionate about the genre, and I get it, you really want people to discover as much of it as they can. I completely understand. I just feel like it's unnecessary to have 120 artists.

I'm sorry for being rude to you earlier but I'm gonna have to respectfully decline doing artists.

I will be happy to add some of your suggestions though.
>>
Aw crap half of those Ministry albums are actually 90s and Mind is Terrible actually only barely squeaks into the 80s. Well this may be a little more difficult but still that should be the point.
>>
1983
Manilla Road - Crystal Logic
Dio - Holy Diver

1984
Saint Vitus - s/t
>>
>>71733919
> I just feel like it's unnecessary to have 120 artists.
Then you are way underestimating 80s metal
>>
Severe lack of Exodus - Bonded by Blood here
>>
>The Land of Rape and Honey
I can't tell if that's the best or worst album name I've ever seen in my life.

>>71733943
Buddy. I am doing FIVE decade charts for metal. That's why I don't wanna overblow one decade.

It's already scary enough I might have to put Cannibal Corpse on one of the charts. That's sacrifise enough for me.

I promise you what I can get on these charts will be as good of a representation of your favorite genre as I can make it.
>>
Crimson Glory - Transcendence (1988)
Running Wild - Death or Glory (1989)
Helloween - Keeper of the Seven Keys part I (1987)
>>
>>71733982
It could be done for every decade although it seems most intimidating for the 70s. Think of it this way, if this is done fairly then multiple albums from bands would almost always get switched out for a band thay wasnt even mentioned at all. So basically the only question is if you want a single album to represent bands or a 4x4. Seriously if you kept this thread open and didn't simply move on then that is guaranteed what would happen.
>>

-Suicidal Tendencies

+Accept - Balls to the Wall

>>71734038

Between the two? Single albums, if necessary. There's no problem with one or two albums representing an artist (though it rarely happens anyway)

1983 was an incredible year for metal. Here are some other contenders:

Heavy Load - Stronger Than Evil
Savage - Loose 'N Lethal
Witchfinder General - Friends Of Hell
Warlord - Deliver Us
Raven - All for One
Anvil - Forged in Fire
Motley Crue - Shout at the Devil
Exciter - Heavy Metal Maniac
Savatage - Sirens

>>71734255

A: If you want something replaced in 83 you gotta say what.
B: I'd prefer to focus on the wasteland that is the empty 82 year so far.
>>
>>71734276
Why do you give a shit what year it is?
>>
>>71734324
Because that's how the chart's organized?
That's how EVERY chart has been organized.
Each row is a year.

That's the ENTIRE reason the series is called 'X genre' by year'
>>
1982

Heavy Load - Death or Glory
Anvil - Metal on Metal
Accept - Restless and Wild
Tank - Filth Hounds of Hades
Raven - Wiped Out

>>
>>71734060
Why would you take off ST? Among other reasons Dave Lombardo is their drummer now. Pretty sure that says where their priorities are. Musically they were far more important to metal than punk.
>>
>>71734358
agreed
Savage - Loose 'N Lethal
Raven - All for One
>>
>>71734382
Relax, the chart can be expanded if needed
>>
>>71734382
Well I'm sorry you weren't there for the 16 other threads I did in the exact same style to nag about how I do these.

It's not suppose to include every single metal album. Just a little from each year to give people a sample of what it was like around that time. Same thing I did for the jazz and hip hop charts.
>>
>>71734402
>>71734413
Well whatever.
>>
>>71734395
It's an important crossover album. Certainly it could stay but 12 slots is tough for 83.

Not arguing against the format, though, it is what it is.
>>
>>71734324
Because it's more challenging that way. Your mission is to find strong metal albums from 1982
>>
>>71734452
Well true I'd agree then if we're thinking 12 per year
>>
>>71734453
>>71734475
Max for topsters is 12 columns. Don't know why.
