My personal fav nww song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NbfxNoYxMhI
>>
-Homotopy to Marie was my first album, and I liked it right away. Years later, I got a CD copy and learned that the album was dedicated to an avant-garde composer who died in a car crash. I have located and visited the tree where this crash took place. It was just a few miles away from the place where I first listened to the album.

-References to Eraserhead are audible in certain selections.

-I have a new theory: The title of an EP (Brained by Falling Masonry) is inspired by the works of Edward Gorey. I believe this to be a plausible theory.

Pic related is the pertinent panel from /The Hapless Child/, an early work by Gorey, and right up Stapleton's weird/edgy street. The all-important, uncommon "brained/masonry" word-combo are present here, and I believe that this is where the NWW EP title originates from.

The context of the panel is an unlucky girl whose relatives are all killed, and consequently comes to a bad end as an orphan. The uncle's death is just one more clause in this train of events.

There is a terrible youtube narration-video which is easily found by searching these things; I therefore suppress it here.

What are the essential NWW albums, or rather, which ones aren't worthwhile?
>>
I remember being like 12 years old and buying (yeah buying lmao) Salt Marie Celeste on iTunes and thinking that it was the best fucking thing ever.
I think it's still my favourite NWW album.
>>
I have an everlasting gratitude for Mr.Stapleton because of his contributions to Current 93 discography.

I recommend the following starter kit, in three moods:

1) THE FIRST ALBUM: Chance Meeting... (1979, Surreal, guitar, noise). If you like Pink Floyd or prog in general and have an appetite for the weird then you may go for this.

2) THE "FIRST" ALBUM: Homotopy to Marie (1982, Harsh noise, ambient, tape loops, weird). This is where Stapleton personally felt that he finally got the sound right for the first time, and I guess that's why he styles it the first "real" NWW album, even though it was really the fifth.

3) SOME AMBIENCE: Soliloquy for Lilith (1988, ambient). If you care for ambient music at all, and you haven't listened to this, then you must do so immediately.

If you like 1), then try the second album, "To the quiet men from a tiny girl". Also Bacteria Magnet/"Terms and conditions apply" (later compilations I guess) etc.

If you like 2), then also definitely try Merzbild Schwet, a personal favorite. If you want HARSH SHIT do the 150 Murderous Passions split with Whitehouse, /it actually sounds like Sade's text, I really mean this/.

If you like 3), then try Salt, Painting with Priests, etc, good ambience.

An off-the-hook blog page contains loads of this stuff, mostly FLAC and more obscure file conventions. The drawback is that some are in ape files and so require a bit of work. I post it anyway:

Not >>71732243 but THANK YOU for introducing me to this blog, I considered myself knowledgeable on how to find obscure industrial/noise but seeing this gem of a place being a blog, I realize that I was blind between slsk and rutracker.

For fuck's sake i mean, look at all of the F/i tapes he has! Thank you again!

I know almost nothing about Current 93 but I'm interested due to the NWW association.

I've also learned that David Tibet was responsible for re-popularizing the Aleister Crowley spoken word recordings, which have been released time and again. One version I looked at in a shop indicated that that whole milleu (John Balance, Stapleton, others) got the "ultra-rare" first-edition copies of the initial re-pressing that got done in the mid-80s, like maybe 31 copies or so.

Another NWW Link: the first ten minutes are somewhat loud but then it settles down into good space ambient, of-a-piece with those purported "planet field recordings"

I'll let you in on a little secret: I actually don't download music very much. I own a dozen or so NWW things, sent away to Ireland and all. Unlike an above poster, I like to have copies of things I really like.

That said, the link seems to be real gem. I intend to strip the bitch raw, because something tells me the link won't last (good things never do). I've already got 4-5 of the things I care most about, the trick has been to find the right codecs/media players (also straightforward).

This is the harsh stuff (lossy, ebin track though)

foobar, in regards to the codecs i believe just searching said format with this media player will be successful

>I intend to strip the bitch raw
Oh me too, already started getting the F/i. Gotta be quick to see if there's anything else interesting there. For a moment I thought I was about to find the SPK and NON boxsets released by Vinyl-on-Demand that I so desperately seek.

Pic related is a really good compilation, sort of a career retrospective, but it's really well woven together. The extended mix of Rock n Roll station alone makes it worthwhile

Escorted by Desgranges and Duclos, the Duc and Curval make a journey to the cellars with Augustine in the course of that night; her ass has been preserved in excellent condition, 'tis now lashed to tatters, then the two brothers alternately embugger her, but guard their seed, and then the Duc gives her fifty-eight wounds in the buttocks, pours boiling oil into each gash. He drives a hot iron into her cunt, another into her ass, and fucks her wounded charms, his prick sheathed in a sealskin condom which worsens the already lamentable state of her privities. That accomplished, the flesh is peeled away from the bones of her arms and legs, which bones are sawed in several different places, then her nerves are laid bare in four adjacent places, the nerve ends are tied to a short stick which, like a tourniquet, is twisted, thus drawing forth the aforesaid nerves, which are very delicate parts of the human anatomy and, which, when mistreated, cause the patient to suffer much. Augustine's agonies are unheard-of.

She is given some respite and allowed to recruit her strength, then Messieurs resume work, but this time, as the nerves are pulled into sight, they are scraped with the blade of a knife. The friends complete that operation and now move elsewhere; a hole is bored in her throat, her tongue is drawn back, down, and passed through it, 'tis a comical effect, they broil her remaining breast, then, clutching a scalpel, the Duc thrusts his hand into her cunt and cuts through the partition dividing the anus from the vagina; he throws aside the scalpel, reintroduces his hand, and rummaging about in her entrails, forces her to shit through her cunt, another amusing stunt; then, availing himself of the same entrance, he reaches up and tears open her stomach. Next, they concentrate upon her visage: cut away her ears, burn her nasal passages, blind her eyes with molten sealing wax, girdle her cranium, hang her by the hair, attach heavy stones to her feet, and allow her to drop: the top of the skull remains dangling.

She was still breathing when she fell, and the Duc encunted her in this sorry state; he discharged and came away only the more enraged. They split her belly, opened her, and applied fire to her entrails; scalpel in hand, the Président burrows in her chest and harasses her heart, puncturing it in several places. 'Twas only then her soul fled her body; at the age of fifteen years and eight months thus perished one of the most heavenly creatures ever formed by Nature's skillful hand. Etc. Her eulogy.

This is the single most shocking and execrable passage in the entirety of the 120 days of sodom, and it is the general context of this passage that I most like to imagine corresponds to the aforementioned A-side, the male screaming notwithstanding.

Thunder Perfect Mind is such an amazing album, Cold being my favorite track that Stapleton has created. Any recommendations for more of his works that have a simiar sound? The driving, percussive, industrial rhythmic sound.
>>
>>71733396

You're different from me! I much prefer the musical phases of "Colder Still".

since you want that tribal shit, the first poster has an excellent suggestion: >>71730212

I drove home today listening to A Sucked Orange/Scrag. There are some bits like that on there as well, those recordings are a good "grab-bag" of the NWW sound, soft/hard/weird.
>>
>>71730409

While I have people's attention, I really want to emphasize my belief that the title "brained by fallign masonry" is in reference to the above Edward Gorey panel; thus I reproduce the title track here.

Tibet and Thirlwell were involved around here. I'm not crazy about the track itself, but it's a psychadelic freakout.

Another on of my favorite "tribal" sounding NWW tracks, from one of his most underrated albums, Swamp Rat from Drunk With the Old Man of the Mountain.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CY7BRhXqpvU&index=3&list=PL555CBD4BC917502D

Looking for recommendations akin to this and Cold. Less ambient, more beat driven. Folky or industrial, either works.

OP (thread-driver) here, I think you're now going for the other-half of the catalogue that I haven't heard and can't comment on. "Brained by falling masonry" itself has a nice vamp-y tribal thing going, though.

I wish you well. I'm close to done here.

OH! I know a good snippet from "A Sucked Orange"! :D
