>>
Not even close. That goes to 1976
>>
>>71727380
No, that's 1975.
>>
76 was a lot better than 74.
>>
The mid-70s was this unfortunate transitional period between the counterculture/protest era and the disco/punk era. There wasn't a lot to sing about with the Vietnam War over, and Watergate really didn't make for good musical fodder.
>>
>>71727380
Rock Bottom, Red, Taking Tiger Mountain
also Steve Reich's Drumming

1975 and 1976 are worse

>All these people dissing 1975

Scuse me bitch?
>>
Most of the albums out in 1974 were mediocre buttrock like It's Only Rock-and-Roll and the first two Kiss records.
>>
1978 and 1979 are worse.
>>
>>71728075
How so?
>>
>>71728075
why?
>>
>>71728085

Not him but I'm guessing he chose those years because of disco.

>74
Natty Dread
Blood On the Tracks
Autobahn
Red
Meet the Residents
Rock Bottom
Inspiration Information
Pretzel Logic
Silent Tongues
Taking Tiger Mountain,
... well still pretty good

Every year in the 70s is pretty based
78 was the worst for me
>>
Late 70s(77-79)>Early 70s(70-72)>>>>>>>>>>>>Mid 70s(74-76)

The fourth year of a decade is always the outlier, but 1973 belongs with the early 70s music-wise.
>>
>>71728166
By the time you got to 1978, it was full-blown corporate bullshit.
>>
>>71728182
Did you cream your pants writing that list? It seemed pretty masturbatory to me.
>>
>>71728202
>it was full-blown corporate bullshit.
That's completely false. There were still plenty of underground records being made.

Same thing as dubstep. Even when Americans fucked it up there was still lots of innovative stuff on the underground scene for the next few years.
>>
>>71728283
Dubstep was always full-blown corporate bullshit.

And it always sucked.
>>
1974 had Blonde on Blonde at least. But overall, it was a lean year because >>71727857. There wasn't a lot of stuff to sing about.
>>
>>71728202
exact opposite, underground scene boomed when the genre became the pathetic mainstream thing we all know.

>>
Ok, Planet Waves was Dylan's '74 release. Mybad.
>>
For mainstream music I think that the 80's were the worst period (however the underground was amazing). But when we talk about an year, I think 99 is the worst one, I can only remember one good album from that year (Blur's 13) and it's trashed by the critics at the time.
>>
>>71729844
>>71727400
Let's see...1976 releases.

Fly Like An Eagle
Desire
Hotel California

Emergency and I? The Soft Bulletin?

>>71729951
Again, stop listening to major label buttrock. There's a couple good releases in there, but 85% of what you posted is hardcore buttrock, often bordering on assrock.
>>
>>71730123
Ow, I forget about these albuns.
>>
>>71730232
1998 was the weakest 90s year imo, but that's not saying much

That's what Rock and Roll was at that time and it has persevered for 40 years and still gets airplay. I was a senior in H/S in 1980 so I was the demographic those albums were aimed at. Every one of those albums was considered very good when they were released.
>>
>>71730373
not 50 yrs old like >>71730937 but yeah, its unfair to dismiss everything in the mainstream at the time that has staying power as buttrock
>>
>>71730937
Dude, it's /mu/, the board where you have to listen to self-indulgent obscure indie crap to prove how non-pleb you are.
>>
>>71730937
Except the Ramones, contrary to what critics like Christgau tell you, almost nobody had even heard of those guys back then and their debut album sold about 1500 copies.
>>
>>71730096

Mediocre shit that somehow made the /mu/core list.
>>
>>71731757
true. I said "Every One" when I should have said with a few exceptions. I don't have knowledge of "Sad Wings of Destiny" or "Virgin Killer".
>>
>>71727380

1975 looks a bit weaker compared to the other years of the 70s. That doesn't mean that no good/great albums were released at the time.
>>
>>71731964
>I don't have knowledge of "Sad Wings of Destiny"

Judas Priest didn't get popular in the US until Hell Bent For Leather, and Sad Wings was an indie label release that very few people knew about at the time, although later on the 80s it became readily available in reprints.

>Virgin Killer
Scorpions, except they weren't popular in the US until Lovedrive. But that album is more famous for its, uh, cover art than the music.

Other than that, the other albums listed were all major label releases that could be found on every teenager's record shelf in the late 70s.
>>
>>71732022
1975 releases:

Force It
Toys in the Attic
Blood on the Tracks
Dressed to Kill
Sabotage
Not Fragile
Young Americans
Queen II
Equinox
Physical Graffiti
Fly By Night
Radio Activity
Song for America
Welcome To My Nightmare
Katy Lied
One Of These Nights
Beautiful Loser
Gorilla
Venus and Mars
Main Course
The Who By Numbers
Atlantic Crossing
E.C. Was Here
Blues for Allah
Ted Nugent
Still Crazy After All These Years
>>
I actually like these 70s lists because there was no hip-hop back then.
>>
>>71732040
Thank you
>>
>>71732040
They lost the publishing rights to their first two albums after departing from Gull Records, but the label reissued them repeatedly for years for as long as Priest were a commercially viable band.
>>
>>71732332
>>71731870
>>71729951
Goddamn, stop posting lists of major label plebshit.
>>
>>71727380
>>71729691
1974 was the year prog officially died with King Crimson. Robert Fripp and Peter Gabriel realized it and knew to call it quits (not before releasing their respective masterpieces, though) but Yes and the others didn't get the memo.
After prog died, good music died.
>>
>>71733819
Correct. Real prog died although false buttprog carried on for a while longer until punk swept it away.
>>
>>71733841
Like, for example Styx and Rush.
