The mid-70s was this unfortunate transitional period between the counterculture/protest era and the disco/punk era. There wasn't a lot to sing about with the Vietnam War over, and Watergate really didn't make for good musical fodder.

Most of the albums out in 1974 were mediocre buttrock like It's Only Rock-and-Roll and the first two Kiss records.

Ok, Planet Waves was Dylan's '74 release. Mybad.

For mainstream music I think that the 80's were the worst period (however the underground was amazing). But when we talk about an year, I think 99 is the worst one, I can only remember one good album from that year (Blur's 13) and it's trashed by the critics at the time.

1975 looks a bit weaker compared to the other years of the 70s. That doesn't mean that no good/great albums were released at the time.

Judas Priest didn't get popular in the US until Hell Bent For Leather, and Sad Wings was an indie label release that very few people knew about at the time, although later on the 80s it became readily available in reprints.

Other than that, the other albums listed were all major label releases that could be found on every teenager's record shelf in the late 70s.

1974 was the year prog officially died with King Crimson. Robert Fripp and Peter Gabriel realized it and knew to call it quits (not before releasing their respective masterpieces, though) but Yes and the others didn't get the memo.
