I think lyrically this is an atrocity.
It's the least poetic thing I've ever heard. I know people will say this is intentional, but if it is, I quite dislike this style of writing. The literalness of his description of events borders on the ridiculous. If I remember correctly, he even sang "my wife had cancer and she died" at one point.
That's just a bit too real for me, I guess, and certainly not lyrical at all.
