pls explain the appeal of this band. It just sounds like colourful jpop with slightly interesting vocals. What about it is AOTY for you? I haven't listened to it btw, I've just heard some of their singles on youtube

I've hit quite the rut. I've decided to not rate anything until I get another 4/5 and also to not rate any more metal for at least a few albums. Right now I have at least two 4/5 metal albums waiting in the pipe.

I haven't heart much japanese music at all save for midori and some instrumental artists
The hooks and vocals suit each other really well, it's very upbeat and makes me feel good listening to it. The first half is great and then the strength dies down noticeably but there are still some that stand out afterwards
It reminds me a lot of art angels and I really loved that release since it just is pure emotion with great instrumentals and that's what I see here a lot
I wouldn't call it AOTY but it's just what I think is one of the stronger releases so far this year

Are you especially differentiating between Japanese and Korean? AOA is astounding.

Not a big fan of pure pop music in general, more synth/electro/art pop

You should check this one out. Definitely a lot of metal influences but also incorporates a lot of other genres and ideas.
Probably my fav of this year

I gave it a 3/5 which is solidly good for me. I don't give out 3.5 and I'm reserving 4.5 for aoty. It's actually one of the only two physical albums I've bought this year. Both of which are cassettes which I hate.

Oh I fucking love it. Also, Jay Som I think her name was from Oakland as I recall. That might be even more up your alley.
