Regardless, being wealthy and having excess leisure time doesn't automatically mean one will have the drive to become a good instrumentalist and being a good instrumentalist doesn't automatically make you a good songwriter/composer, much less an incredible one as literate and thorough as Joanna. There are plenty of rich kids, but I've never heard another songwriter like her, this is a stupid argument.

being a relative to a lieutenant governor doesn't mean your family is potentially very wealthy, but look at William Newsom: the guy manages the Getty trust, worth 2 billion, and makes 40 million from it a year.

If anything, the potential access to easy money she has in contrast to her fantastic, virtuosic musical ability makes her even more credible of an individual.

I never listened to her but I know who she is because of /mu/. A few weeks ago I watched Inherent Vice and spent the whole first hour of the movie trying to figure out if it was her.

I'll agree that Park's arrangements are a bit overrated but that album is not meandering nonsense at all. Sure the songs move about through a pretty wide conceptual space, but she really keeps them all well contained despite their ambition. Its essentially her masterpiece and as much as I enjoy her work since I don't think she'll ever top it.
