Possibly the most underrated guitarist in all of metal. Certainly the most underrated thrash guitarist there is

Just never got the same acclaim as people like Dave Mustaine or James Hetfield or the Slayer guys, despite being better than all of them

Because Exodus itself is pretty underrated. Bonded By Blood is a crazy debut album, if it was released back in '84 like intended instead of 85, it would've made a much bigger splash in the scene.

I don't think I can put Gary Holt above Dave Mustaine though. Technical ability maybe, but Mustaine writes better riffs on a consistent basis, even on throwaway fillers like Mary Jane on SFSGSW, while Holt's songwriting is kind of inconsistent

I was inspired by Steve Vai to learn guitar. Am I fucked for wanting to have skill like him? How hard is it?
I mean i watched some videos on youtubes where relatively young(20-ish years old) girls/boys manage to play his stuff with apparent ease.
>>
>>71679376
No matter how good you are, there's always gonna be a 6yo Chinese girl better than you at everything you do. Accept it, then keep on practicing. Steve Vai like so many other guitar players doesn't have "skill", he just worked like a motherfucker to get where he is. Do the same.

Works perfectly for me. People love to say how much better the ISP Decimator is, but the other guitarist in my band has one and he's always either feeding back in pauses or so suppressed that it cuts the signal when it's not supposed to. I always laugh when I see some dumb shit buy a cheap guitar and immediately start "upgrading" it. They usually start by asking for replacement pickup suggestions. It's like why, you dumb fuck? Why did you buy a guitar you didn't think sounded good to begin with? I'll tell you why: because you don't know what the fuck you're doing and you have no clue what the fuck you're after. You bought some retarded piece of shit because of how it looked in a picture on the internet and then when you got it home and actually played it ..it sounded and played like straight up ass. So you started "upgrading" it instead of admitting to yourself that you don't know shit and made a mistake, or that the guitars construction was so shitty that you didn't have any other choice but to "upgrade" it to make it a playable instrument. Here's the thing though: you could have just saved all the time and money you sank/wasted into "upgrading" a piece of shit and just bought a decent guitar to begin with. You bedroom warriors are a hilarious lot, watching you flail about trying to polish turds into diamonds. If a diamond is what you wanted why didn't you just go out and buy a diamond to begin with?

Because you're fucking stupid, that's why.

>buying an MIA
>paying for U.S. labor

That extra $600 you spent on a guitar went into the pockets of bumfuck factory workers in some flyover state just to sand the wood better and apply "premium" quality paint. I hope you feel good about your purchase. Jesus christ guitar players have high level autism.
>>
>>71680119
Difference is that you can sell an MIA at more than half of it's original retail cost.

Also, don't need to spend time and money replacing all the electronics and occasionally the hardware.

Hey, did you see those cool ass MIM baritone Telecasters that Fender did a couple years back?

You know, the ones they discontinued because they fucked up the bridge placement, making them impossible to intonate.

Yeah, MIM quality m8.

Spending 600 on a decent guitar or 2000 on a good guitar is stupid.

You can get a good guitar for $200. It just won't say <brand name> on the headstock.

>>71680229
I remember that, people had to change the bridge saddles to one of the old "barrel" types to get the low E anywhere near intonated. I hope someone got fired for that piece of shit.

Telecaster. It just looks like the dumb kid from school with really disproportionate facial and body features. Like really ugly and an IQ of 50. With its ugly headstock that looks like a foot to its ugly body that is way too round and that pickguard and those mismatching pickups.

I want to get myself an SG due to learning a bit of slide and generally liking the sound of them and the fat necks.

My question is, is there any reason to go from the £600ish SG special up to the £1000 standard? I am not overly fussed about looks, more the feel and sound. I live in the middle of nowhere so will probably order one online and send it back if I don't like it, but would like to get it right first time round. Cost isn't really an issue so don't rely too heavily on that. Anyone tried both?

In what world is that better than a Gibson SG standard? A lot of their guitars are stupidly over priced but the SGs seem to be good value
>>
I can't decide between bass or guitar. If I go bass I'll get a fender precision bass. My influences for that is Peter Hook from Joy Division. I listen to a lot of post-punk and the bass is my favorite part of that.

But I would also like to play guitar again. I used to play guitar about 10 years ago. For that I would probably play metal and learn how to do solos and stuff. I would buy a charvel san dimas.

Which should I choose? Would bass get boring if I have no plans on joining a band? Keep in mind Joy Division is my favorite band of all time and Peter Hook is my hero.

Is the Sennheiser e906 supercardiod dynamic mic any good for recording guitar?
Are there any better alternatives that's not super-expensive?

Buy a bass, study jazz so you won't get bored, learn some keyboards, and you'll be a more marketable musician than 99% of guitarists.

How do I into sliding power chords fast? What do I do with my thumb? Do I slide it along the neck or keep it fixed (if it's only about 1 fret distance?)

I'm trying to play some metallica - harvester of sorrow, not to mention master of puppets, they include these fast sliding power chords over a short distance and my left hand gets real tired/painful and it looks messy if my thumb is fixed on the back of the neck while sliding, but I can't get enough pressure on the frets if I don't keep it fixed there.
Do I just need to lighten the grip or what?

What's the main difference between the micro terror orange 20 or the combo amp orange 20RT? Which is better?

>>71684833
i suppose
i have no problem moving it along with the hand if it's 2 or more frets, but these short slides i just can't manage to move it

Darkglass pedals sound like shit if go very wet.

Why my strings keep breaking?
They break at the fretboard too but its mostly at the saddles.
Do i have to keep sanding the saddles every month?

Now it was the fucking A string. It was just playing some rhythm with a thick pick (tortex yellow) that it broke quickly.

I had switched to medium picks for this reason and i think i will not use a thick one not even for a little while as i did now.
>>
I just bought a Jazz Bass like bass and the neck feels so tiny, even feels flatter and thinner than a normal guitar neck. It feels not that great after playing a while although I have small hands. What bass do /gg/ play and how do you feel about that neck profile.
>>
>>71685174
Just garbage bridge, obviously. Those bridges are pains in ass, and they are poorly built and probably not set in a right way. Get those of trash unless you can afford a really nice one.

Can I tune a step down without needing a setup?
>>
>>71685174
Also should i start picking chords with slanted pick to prevent breaking strings?

>>71685317
Better get what? A roller bridge?

What do you guys think of the Faded series of Gibson guitars? (The cheapest in the 2017 lineup)
>>
>>71683955
Literraly every zorld. SG supreme are the same building quality as a $700 edwards
>>
>>71685349
Why would you need fucking setup for tuning down ?
Makes no sense. You can go from standard to 2 step down with no problem.

>begin playing bass
>start to do a vibrato on every single note on the low strings like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yt--uiTka8Q
Is this healthy? Do the pros do small vibratos on the notes?
>>
Went to a show this weekend and the guy had such a gorgeous semi hollow telecaster, looked like pic related with a darker wood on the neck
>>
>>71685349
You may need a subtle loosen in the truss rod if you are perfectonist. Just take care to measure it so you can get it back the same amount
>>
>>71685915
Not a perfectionist, just don't want to warp the neck or cause other damage
>>
>>71685995
Tuning down will not do any damage to the neck cause you will not increase tension. It may cause the strings to buzz due to straightening of the trussrod
>>
Does this look like a good deal?
