Post an album more people should listen to and explain why. If something sounds interesting, check it out and let the person know what you think.
Pale Cocoon - 繭 (Cocoon)
It's "ethereal wave" like Cocteau Twins, but much more atmospheric and minimalist (yet still melodic). The songs function well individually, but flow even nicer as a whole, with a wonderful climax halfway through.
Post some of your obscure favorites!
Iosonouncane - DIE
This one takes styles such as contemporary folk, alternative rock, Mediterranean folk, progressive pop (inspired by Lucio Battisti), and a little ambient and combines them incredibly well. I think it has the potential to become a /mu/ favorite if more people listen to it.
Just give this a listen:

Aoki Takamasa + Tujiko Noriko - 28
Sparse glitch pop that occasionally comes around to sound beautiful. It's not "beautiful" exactly but it is really hypnotic and a good transition album for someone interested in electronic music.
>Théâtre du chêne noir - Chant pour le Delta, la Lune et le Soleil (1976)
It's often tagged as French "psychedelic rock", but it's quite misleading: imagine French spoken-word by a gypsy woman, daydreaming about pagan gods & hippie utopia, while musicians played gentle Spiritual Jazz.
Actually it's a concept-album created for an underground theatrical performance.

Both are overlooked masterpieces
Harold Budd, Elizabeth Fraser, Robin Guthrie & Simon Raymonde - The Moon and Melodies
This one's a collab by several members of Cocteau Twins in their heyday, and it's fantastic, yet it often gets forgotten because it's not Cocteau Twins proper. If you like any of their stuff, give this a listen.

This is sweet, those drums are awesome. Grabbed.

Absolutely, especially DIE. It might be my AOTD so far.
Is Mariah's Utakata no Hibi /mu/core yet?
Armenian singer with songs in half Armenian and half Japanese playing early 80's progressive jazzy / funky / krautrocky / spacy proto-electronic stuff with a Japanese band lead by Yasuaki Shimizu

The Fall - Gorillaz
Listening to this album gives me a feeling of this small journey through the US. It's the Gorillaz at their most experimental and I think it pays off (cept for Seattle Yodel, I hate that one).
>>71670878
Japanese experimental new wave is really interesting. Wish I knew more about it.
Someone on here showed me pic related (Aragon - s/t), and it's excellent stuff in a similar style. It's not on youtube, but check out the song "Horridula", the sound is wonderful.
A.R. Kane - 69
Another ethereal wave album (How 'bout that). This one's similarly sparse like Cocoon, but from a black British dude in London in the 80's instead of Japan. It's very hypnotic as well, with some pop moments. It's worth checking out for the unique factor alone.

More Better Days is a two disc comp that covers a lot of that movement. Pitchfork and some other press reviewed it but I can't find any proof it's available for purchase anywhere outside of Japan. It looks like it's Western release was cancelled. Shame.

I've been relistening to this, and it really is great. I love stuff like the jam at the beginning of track 2.
>>71671502
Awesome, thanks for the rec. Was able to find it on slsk at least.

I second this

Awesome rec, anon

The Knit Separates - Swords, Then Diamonds
Really sweet, honest, tender, lo fi jangle/twee with a avant edge and folk influences. Reminds me a lot of The Wizard of Oz.
it's on bandcamp p sure

I'll be the last person to call this album amazing or anything like that, but it does fill a certain niche as far as decent roadtrip albums goes. Good recommendation
Everyone Asked About You- self-titled EP
My personal favorite from my (very limited) knowledge of the emo genre, it's a 4-track EP that has excellent dueling male/female vocals, lyrics that are direct and yearning for love, and campy but effective instrumentation to evoke feelings of summer wistfulness. Highly recommended.
>Visible Cloaks - Music Interiors Vol. 2: Interni Italiani (2016)
"DJ mix of Italian ambient/minimalist/avant-garde/library music. Ethnographic plunderphonics, spiritual minimalism & hypnotic Mediterranean 4th world Ambient."
Good mix, comfy & dreamy; recommended if you like OPN, Eno, Yasuaki Shimizu, Jon Hassell, etc.

This is the definitive "young love" music, the feels are something else. I'll second your rec, it's beautiful.

Thanks a lot m8. I sincerely appreciate it.
Tocotronic - Digital Ist Besser
It's straight-forward indie rock from Germany. And surprisingly, super catchy. There's not much variation in overall sound or vocals, but there are some really catchy melodies. Also, if you like this, listen to some of their other albums. They're quite consistent.

No problem, man.
Arab Strap - Philophobia
If you like slowcore, you may love this. A man with a thick Scottish accent croons about his failed relationships, and it couldn't be more devastating. It's amazing, give it a try.

I have listened to these two before and I absolutely love them. I'll have to check out the other albums in this thread.
On my end I'll post Ling Toshite Shigure - Inspiration is Dead
Combines alternative rock and post-hardcore with alternating male and female vocals, which give the music most of its charm while being hard to get into, due to everything being sang in falsetto. Almost the whole of it is energetic, upbeat and lively, catchy choruses in all the songs and occassionally bursts of short hooks that'll keep you wanting to replay them.
Hard to pick a sample, so I'll just post the album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSFy7DdlQAA
Personally I think the second half is stronger than the first, but the whole thing is great.

Your post reminded me of this, School Girl Distortional Addict by Number Girl. Really catchy alt-rock/post-hardcore mix like yours. I'll check yours out.

Onshitsu is so beautiful

Holy hell this is phenomenal. Very nice find, man.

I know right?
Alvin Band - Rainbow Road
This is the best album I've come across out of the jumble of releases heavily inspired by MPP. It's Mario Kart-themed and a grower, so give it some time.
bump
good taste ITT
Death Cab for Cutie - We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes
This one's kind of well known, but I think many people avoid it due to the band's reputation for being Starbucks-core indie they attained later in their life. This early album captures adolescence and isolation very well, like a less anxious Dismemberment Plan. If listened to at the right moment in one's life, it can be amazing.

Severed Heads - Haul Ass
The first album made by an independent sevcom in 1998 was mainly drawn from incessant live shows around that time. Majors were interested, so long as we danced their stupid fashion poot dance - 'get a bass player', 'get a cute girl singer', 'take this small advance and start off in debt'. No thanks.
This wasn't an easy time, money wasn't so great and the old ways were dying. We got a lot of help from a few friends mentioned on the sleeve. We started making this CD when blanks were 11 dollars each. About two thousand burns later, the CD has worn through quite a few burners and still sells. If your cover is green, you're one of the first thousand!
It's not a live CD as such, but has a certain rough and readiness that comes from songs worked out on the road.

HOM - Cyпepдиcк - (NOM - Superdisk)
Russian New Wave/Post-Punk band formed in the mid 80's by a group of St. Peterburg art students.
Their early style boasts a strong Devo/Zolo influence while also featuring a heavy Russian folk influence on certain tracks, as time would pass they would only diversify their style by infusing it with other styles of music in addition to electronics.
The themes throughought their career are generally a mix of poetic absurdism and satirical irony, making fun of various Russian characteristic traits, or as they put it in their own words, "the idiotization of all the dramatic sides of our everyday and cultural life, as well as over-dramatizaton of [life's] most idiotic aspects."
NOM's use of theatrics and dark, cynical sense of humor (contrast to other russian New Wave peers like Zvuki Mu) puts them in a league together with other Weirdwave bands like Devo, Oingo Boingo, and the Japanese Hikashu and P-Model.

Even though all of their albums are worth looking into, and while their first three albums are generally regarded as essential, their third one happens to be my favorite which is why I post it in this thread. If anyone is looking for a download I shared it in a sharethread some days ago.
