If you don't care for others sadness or can't comprehend other people's emotions then you prolly won't like it and are still juvinele. Which explains most of the trolling. This board has too many kids.

being a big fucking manchild who cries about some guy who they don't even know's wife dying and his shitty singing about it doesn't make you mature, it making you an overly emotional nu-male.
>>
>>71657015
Roughly 90% of the people on this board are regular gross 4chan users. This isn't the best site to go find an answer to that question because everything is a meme here. Like when David pajo attempted suicide. It was so disheartening to see all the mindless mockery. But we live in a fucked up world.
>>

Recommend a song I just keep finding interviews.

It ain't that great. I get it, he's suffered insurmountable tragedy and I'm glad he's able to continue what he does. But honestly he's taken a dive since taking the mount eerie moniker. I could assume the grief on this album and make something more out of it, but I really just don't wanna.

oh fuck off. the poor woman's death unfolded in real time over the internet, and her husband wrote a very naked album about it. everyone's still riled up; the music cannot possibly be judged accordingly until we're ten years detached into the future. i'm already dreading the fucking cheesy, melodramatic "folks, don't forget that trump is gonna tear up obamacare!" reviews this is gonna get

We should all pitch in and buy him a sex doll .

You're probably right.
The internet is a double edged sword. Its just so much fun shitposting that when a dude like Phil comes around with something incredible ("unique" "beautiful" etc) it just gets swallowed by the meme machine. Its not Phil personally being fucked with, (although I guess it is in a way) its just the nature of the majority.
I hope that makes sense, its been a long day.
>>
Man this is pretty fucking sad, I'm not memeing right now

regardless of whether you think his wife aka another human being dying is "funny" or makes you feel better somehow- regardless, his new album is incredible and will last a lot longer than anything you could create

Meme....Me! Me! Look at me! Even if you don't I still want you to!
>>
Haven't listened to this album yet but is at least better than the underwhelming album that was Sauna?
>>
>>71658114
Yep. Although sauna was pretty good at times, the songwriting wasn't up to par on a good majority of tracks. Good production though, if a bit cluttered up.
This new album is much more direct, straight as an arrow. Funny how sauna was supposed to be Phil's sharpest record. Sharp in the way that a rusty blade can still cut you.
>>
>>71658114
its not better of worse than anything, youve never listened to an album like this, it sounds very different than his previous work, its very simplistic.

if you lost someone close to you and youve gone through real grief it will resonate with you in ways no other album has before, at least thats what happened to me. ive cried to sparklehorse because of the realness of his painful lyrics, this is kind of similar but even more intense, phils descriptions of whats hes been through feel very honest and real.
>>
>>71657903
When he decided to exploit her death to sell records. It's cheap and in bad taste
>>
>>71658089
Give me literally one other instance from any media where an artist spreads their dead wife's ashes in front of a sunset, but acknowledges the hollowness of the act as he views essence as belonging to the sunset and not the ashes

If its such a cliche I bet you could find me literally one fucking instance.
>>
>>71658187
Actually a very fair point. He's selling the fucking file for $9 when he should just be giving it away or certainly a name your price. That's hiw little faith he has in his fans? I bet a ton of people would have paid more. How much could his overhead have been in this album? What a joke.
>>
>>71658244
>>71658187

For the exact same reason shitloads of people have name your price on Bandcamp for a fucking file.
>>
>>71658244
I'm pretty sure you have the option of paying more than the price on band camp. I'm not entirely sure if that's the deal with every BC or just an option the artist can take. I bought a grouper record, 15 bucks, but I chipped in a bit extra.
So...yeah.

This thread sucks. I doubt most people who hear this record are gonna think "ah what a fuckin shill this Phil dude is for creating fine poignant art about grief"
Most people will be those with feelings, and they will cry and hug the ones they hold dear a little more.
>>
>>71658322
Checked.

This place is cancerous.
>>
>>71658268
That is literally a page about the slapstick joke of knocking over someones ashes. That has nothing to do with this.

Again, give me one instance. He's literally just telling of an individual experience he actually had and you are calling a real human experience a cliche.

One instance.
>>
>>71658268
the way that page explains it, that trope is a comedy thing where the symbolic importance of the ash is used to shock when it's knocked over and spilled. if the ashes didn't matter the trope would be pointless. so it's not really relevant to that guy's point.

note: I haven't heard Phil's album and I likely won't, I just felt like pointing that out about your trope link
>>
>>71658352
I'm pretty sure that "experience" never happened.
>>
>>71658299

I mean it's essentially critic proof because if any person wants to seriously critique it, they look like a fucking asshole. I gave it a listen through and jesus christ this album is morbid as shit.

Agree. Phil is entitled to his grieving and whatever creation comes out of that, but reviewers are going to inflate their praises simply because of the circumstances. Some of the lyrics on this album are absolutely inexcusable and derivative, and thousands of less established artists would get shit for using them.

>artists making money off their art? FUCKING RIDICULOUS
>>
>>71656105
So I listened to a bit of it and I have some mixed feelings. Obviously it's powerful as fuck and I really feel that Phil does a good job of communicating his feelings and experiences about such a terrible situation.

On the other hand I feel like I get a Antlers - Hospice vibe from it. Where it's great, but the overall sadness of it will prevent me from doing a hand full of listens to it ever. The other thing is I feel like Phil makes musical/songwriting decisions that under all most other circumstances would just be not great particularly with flow of the lyrics or the weakness of some of the melodies. On one hand it makes the music come across as more direct, but I feel like if he hammered out these songs a bit more they would stand on their own musical merit more so than the narrative merit.
