thoughts on the modern player telecaster? It got my attention when I tried one out at a store and I thought it sounded lovely, and it was very comfy for me to play. I'm considering buying one as my first more serious electric guitar (my only one up until now is an epiphone LP that I regret buying).

How do you guys record guitar and bass? I have the necessary entry level equipement (audio interface, microphone) but I'm having a hard time making it work.

Currently I use some kind of metronome in FL Studio and try recording the instruments one by one, but it isn't working very well. Sounds kind of stiff and unnatural. Is there a better method for recording, or do I just need to practice more? Should I start recording in segments instead of doing the whole piece in one take?

>Sounds kind of stiff and unnatural
You're most likely just noticing the imperfections in your playing upon hearing them back for the first time. Nothing about tracking to a click is going to make you sound unnatural. So yes, practice more

>Should I start recording in segments instead of doing the whole piece in one take?
That's up to you. It'll definitely give you a cleaner end product when you can just focus on perfecting little sections one by one. But you also have to be able to edit them together so they sound like one take. Which isn't that difficult, just play into and out of the surrounding riffs and use tiny crossfades to blend the clips together.

Also a common method is doing one take and "punching in" to fix up little errors here and there. I'd only recommend this if you're a really accurate player and have the song well rehearsed

Yea I kinda suspected much of it was in my head, but I wanted to have it confirmed. Will practice more for sure.

Any general tips for recording electric guitar and acoustic? Right now I just set the mic in front of the amp or the acoustic guitar and hit record basically. Is that all there is to it?

A good starting point for miking cabs is aiming at the edge of the cone and inner circle of a speaker about an inch off the grill. You can angle the mic or move it closer to get more low end. Or move it farther back to get less. Moving the mic just a tiny bit can have a big effect on the sound, so experiment a lot and see what you like. Also worth noting you won't be able to get a good sound if you have a crappy amp or crappy cab/speakers

The best place for a single mic with an acoustic is aimed at the 12th fret several inches away

Can someone tell me a nice way to change key to the sub dominant?
>>
>>71656710
if by that you mean modulating up a 4th/down one step in the circle of fifths then just introduce a 7th to your tonic and treat it as the new dominant
>>
>>71656102
Offsets are for women and faggots and it's not the 1990s anymore.
>>
>>71656778
So the new dominant acts as a pivot chord?
Should I use a relevant chords between the 2 keys to prepare for the change just before the new dominant or can you just smash it in there like I - V - I7 - IV?
>>
>when you don't know what you're playing but you can make it sound good
>>
>>71656941
if you're feeling fancy you can totally prepare the modulation with things like a V with a minor third (being the new II) or introduce the flat seven otherwise, but in most cases just slapping a 7 creating dominantic tension is absolutely enough
depends on how 'colored' as in using 7ths, 9ths, alterations and whatnot the rest of your arrangement already is how strongly that dominant will be perceived

first off, I'd stick to fat quarter notes until you've really got it down, quarter notes can swing hard

and my walking basslines got better when I started writing them down/constructing them on paper, because it gives you a good sense of the direction they go

and try to land on the 1, 3 or 5 on the beginning of every measure and put a chromatic note at the very end of each

(Three mdma pills deep btw)

I love you all. It's so good that a bunch of strangers can come together on a Mongolian finger painting pigeon carrier service and discuss our love of guitars and music.

Yes sometimes we can get a little antagonistic at each: trolling; shitposting; being mean; being naughty. But the positivity that comes through really just warms my heart.

There is no expectation at all that anyone here be positive. Yet, sometimes you guys have been so positive. You don't need to give advice, take the time out your days to help out beginners; but you do.

(It's taken ages to write this btw, my band is chilling and we're all dinging hard and it's so good. In the space of two hours and three pills, we've expanded the band from three members to four. The positivevity is great.)

I love you all. Enjoy the picture of my guitars.

i dont know how to read i cant write the lines on paper

>and try to land on the 1, 3 or 5 on the beginning of every measure and put a chromatic note at the very end of each
nice. ive only caring to do the 1/3/5 when it changes chord
the cromatic note would be going up to the , like 7 to 1 or b3 to 3?

How to come up with more notes to go up and down when youre playing on the beat instead of phrasing? I mean besides the regular scales. I only found that 4 notes chromatic run

thanks guys
>>
>>71661304

>by quarter notes you mean that blues rhythm that omits one note?
no, I mean 4 evenly spaced notes for every measure

exactly

if you want more notes you could go from minor 2 to 1 and then down the scale

really not that much variation in a blues

Most of the people in these threads are kids. If that's not crystal clear to you after being here for a week or so I don't know what to tell you. I can remember thinking how out of reach an Epiphone Les Paul Custom seemed when I was 21 and by the time I was 22 I had bought my first Gibson Les Paul Standard easy. I can remember being in a music store when I was 25 or so and listening to theses old guys talk about never being able to afford a real Gibson and always wanting a nice one like I had. I felt sort of sorry for them but obviously I didn't understand their situation. Some people will never learn how to prioritize and assign importance to things.

/r9k/ fag here. Im 23. Never had a Gibson. Only an Epiphone and an LTD when I was a dumbass metal head when I was just starting out 8 years ago.

Never had a job, or a car license, or any friends. The thought of a job stresses me out. Driving scares the shit out of me. Never got off my learners license. Haven't had time for friends.

I guess I could afford a Gibson if I got a job, but I'd rather my good old reliable Epiphone fake ass custom than have to go through all the hassle. More than happy with that. A job, I'd honestly really rather take a bullet in the head right now it stresses me out that much.

I wanted to get suggestions on a great analogue pedalboard. I want to try and get the most bang for my buck (as we all do), and had a pedalboard idea in mind. Let me know what you think, and if I'm missing out on some glaringly obvious choices. I am into Rock & Blues, and want something for a good bluesy tone, as well as rock tracks, soft clean tones, etc. Artists ranging from Stevie Ray Vaughan, Joe Bonomassa, Pink Floyd, AC/DC, Ozzy Osbourne, etc. You get the vibe.
Here's my thoughts:

Ibanez Tube Screamer (TS9) Overdrive
Dunlop MXR Super Badass Distortion
TC Electronic Spark Mini (Boost)
TC Electronic Hall of Fame Reverb
TC Electronic Flashback Delay
TC Electronic PolyTune 2 Tuner
Fuel Tank / MXR DC Power Brick (Power Supply)

So I'm in the market for a new guitar around the 300-400$ mark, narrowed it down to 2 choices, an Ibanez Gio and a Jackson Dinky, both have 24 frets and a whammy bar which are the main things I was looking for, but I can't decide between them, the Ibanez has a really cool finish but the more I look at it the more it gives off an emo vibe and I feel like I'll get sick of it quite soon and I've also heard that Ibanez guitars are of pretty shit quality, especially the gio range but don't know if that's a meme or not, it also has an H/S/H pickup set up but I genuinely wonder how much I'll use the single coil
My gut tells me to go with the Jackson but I really like the color scheme of the Ibanez

you have to be able to read sheets like nobody's business
you don't have any time to prepare and random shit gets pulled out from a 800 songs folder at the spot so you have to get a grasp of a basic comping right away and often enough you even have to nail an easy but important guitar hookline and stuff without knowing the song
also you need to have all the 'standard'' sounds directly available, no time for fiddling
it's pretty damn stressful and having a huge comfort zone with your instrument and (written) music in general sure helps a lot because you will be playing in all different keys, styles and tempos with no questions asked

Me too except I don't have any guitar at all. I have neet bux but it's not even enough to buy an epiphone. I can only afford my cigarettes and rent to my mom.

I haven't played guitar in 10 years. Considering ending it all. My mom might buy my shitty imac that I wasted all my neet bux back pay on, in a few months. Then I can buy a guitar. But she's poor too right now.

My best advie is never buy apple shit. It's not good at it cost too much. I could have a guitar now if I didn't buy that shit. I can't sell this imac on craigslist because it has scratches on the screen which I have no idea how it happened because I never touch the screen.

My nextdoor neighbor back in 2005. He played drums and had some really shitty guitars and pedals in his filthy moldy basement.

So I guess you could say I got into guitar the old school way.

Read this >>71663670. You can go get a job. Go do the fries at McDonald's. Let me describe this job for you.
>stand in front of the fry vat
>dump frozen fries in one side
>take cooked fries out of the other side
>salt the fries
>put cooked fries in cardboard cups

That's the whole job. That's it. You don't do anything else. You couldn't do that for four hours a day?

Even if you are ugly as shit people will generally be nice to anyone who can smile and doesn't instantly have a crush on them. Just go toa guitar store and ask a question dude. They really don't care.

In fact beautiful people like talking to ugly faggots because it makes them feel superior.

You'll be fine.

Also, epiphone is junk, if you're going to blow $600 just get the SG or Firebird in that price range from gibson. Much better instrument.
>>
>>71663762
I don't know why you (you)'ed me but I assume it was meant for the other guy. The thing about these R9K babies is that they use their "disablities" to reinforce their want to be lazy. They are almost all manchildren who blame their parents for strapping them into a computer and forcing them to play video games for 12 hours straight instead of teaching them social skills

I had one it worked great. It doesn't rely on the spring like the other capos and thus doesn't wear out with time or if you store it on your headstock. Some faggot screamo guitar player stole it from me at a show.

Don't know where else to post stuff like this. It's not like 4chan was designed with upcoming musicians in mind. Most of these threads are mindless. But, here goes a toast to the folks that try.
https://soundcloud.com/jessecarpenter0/panda-express

It's a little unenthusiastic at the beginning. I wasn't even sure if it was going to work or was working at all. It ended up recording thru my beats headphones mic, not my iPod touch mic so there's no gain, I had to mix that in with garage band. Otherwise this was take one (: it's nothing serious but obviously I thought it sounded cool.
