I like Death Grips
I really don't care about lyrics
Why would I care about record labels
I find Fantano eloquent and articulate even though I rarely match his taste
I discover pretty much everything through the Internet
I watch the occasional classic anime, currently checking out Revolutionary Girl Utena

I might be able to name 10 or so record but it would be a struggle.
i have watched Fantano occasionally, i dont think he's all that though.

the biggest offender here is i have tons of albums i've only heard once in my library. some of them i havent even heard all the way through.

Except for the genres thing (which I'm guilty of though) you are trying to justify the biggest pleb opinions on that bingo card.

What I don't get is the lyrics thing. Only plebs care about lyrics, patricians care about music
>>
>>71647050
>Only listens to albums or thinks other formats are inferior
There isn't anything wrong with EPs or singles, other than the fact that there is less music by default. But less music isn't inherently bad, because sometimes you want to only listen to 15 minutes of music, and other times you want to listen to 40 minutes of music. Often times the band's best work is in EPs or singles as well.
Also some music isn't built for the album format. For classical music, say I love X piece and I love P performer, but the only album containing X piece with P performer has other pieces Y and Z that I don't care for at all, as is often the case. Would I say that the album containing X, Y, and Z by performer P is my favorite album? What if I find that P's performance of Y actually just sucks and find out that a different performer Q's performance of Y brings out the life in the music? X, Y, and Z are each their own singular entity that don't necessarily have a relation to each other. Perhaps they're all Mozart piano sonatas but they're not linked together beyond that. It's much easier and more natural to talk about X, Y, and Z separately.

>Dismisses entire genres
genres like "crunkcore" need to be dismissed

>"I don't care about lyrics"
It's music, not a book. If you're a fan of modern hip-hop or indie pop/rock, you really can't care too much about lyrics

>thinks rock is the largest/most diverse genre
I'm not even that crazy about rock, but if it's not the largest/most diverse genre, then what is?
>>
>>71648158
crunkcore is not a real genre it's like 3 bands, pick another

lyrics are an aspect of music, this divide is artificial

classical or traditional folk, or some other umbrella genre like that
>>
>>71648197
ok then
disco, dubstep, country, are all valid
>>
>>71648158
rock might be the most diverse (as in there are huge stylistic differences between subgenres) but not the largest. both classical and traditional as the other anon said are larger by far, on the simple basis that both are thousands of years old. and even then, depending on how you define "traditional folk," it could span across every culture which means that it is far more diverse than rock (completely different instruments, playing styles, and even tuning systems).

I just use the word hipster irl (mostly because people usually understand what you're trying to say) and browse /mu/, even tho I just browse sharethreads and the guitar general on a regular basis.

>crunkcore is not a real genre it's like 3 bands, pick another
It's not a genre that's liked by many, but it's still classified as a genre; Brokencyde is still putting out "music" and we have new crunkcore bands like Unicorns Killed My Girlfriend.

Nu-metal, Post-hardcore, and Noise are genres that also need to be dismissed

>lyrics are an aspect of music, this divide is artificial
What I'm trying to say is lyrics aren't everything. A fan of trap music can enjoy the instrumental, the rapper's flow, and the melody of the song while not caring about lyrics.

>classical or traditional folk, or some other umbrella genre like that
Good point

>it's still classified as a genre
it's an odd case because this is only so thanks to people who hate it, to point to it and say "there, this is the worst genre we can all agree on that", with rym as sort of the catalyst. i guarantee literally no one would know about this genre anymore if it wasn't for rym's laughable bandwagon hate, we could have all just forgotten about that shit
and like i said, as the most popular band "of this genre", blood on the dance floor have more in common with cheesy eurodance than crunk, so it's really only brokencyde, dot dot curve and i guess unicorns killed my girlfriend? iirc problem is more of a trap song. there's no reason not to group that in with stuff like bones and suicideboys
family force five are just rap rock
>>
>>71648486
Nu-metal and post hardcore are extremely generic and hard to take seriously

>>71648616
>family force 5 is just rap rock
Agreed

>botdf is more like cheesy eurodance
>"Problem" is a trap song
I've never listened to eurodance music but trap doesn't have any screaming in it

>there's no reason not to group that in with stuff like bones and suicideboys
The type of people who actually like bands such as BOTDF, Family Force 5, and UKMG won't enjoy suicide boys or bones.

Suicide boys and bones are edgy like those bands you mentioned, but they're in the same ballpark as XXXTentacion, Spaceghostpurrp, and those other SoundCloud rappers.

>I really don't care about lyrics
Still not care when listening to spoken word, or hip hop?

>Why would I care about record labels
It's a great way to find similar artists based on one or a handful of musicians. Each record label (especially back then) have a unique and particular dogma that is shared throughout it's musicians.

>>71647050
>Only listens to albums or thinks other formats are inferior
Traditional and classical music have existed long before the longplayer format. Also, there are a ton of (especially punk) bands that only have their material on compilations or singles.

>Dismisses entire genres, e.g. metal, disco, country
It's never a good idea to dismiss a genre. There is a good chance that you might find a "black sheep", and find a band/release that stands out from the rest.

nah come on man, i bet you haven't even heard Incubus' second album, Drive Like Jehu or The Fall of Troy

there isn't anything "hard", not any sort of challenge to taking things seriously, that's just a meme, it's just an attitude that can be changed by a conscious decision

crunk has yelling in it that's close enough. the only thing that really distinguishes brokencyde from lil jon and the eastside boyz is that they're white. there's really no other metalcore element in their music so in my book they're just crunk
i mean seriously, let me take a generic indie folk track and scream on top of it, and wow i just created a whole new genre?

>The type of people who actually like bands such as BOTDF, Family Force 5, and UKMG won't enjoy suicide boys or bones.
are you talking from experience or from stereotypes?
i mean the stereotype goes that scene kids all moved on to become hipsters

?

Just because a new artist is similar, doesn't mean it's the same shit. You could have a punk release that's similar to a jazz release because the bassist is playing in a# phrygian or some shit.

Also, you can't tell me that you've never wanted to listen to a release that's similar to your favorite album.

>crunk has yelling in it that's close enough. the only thing that really distinguishes brokencyde from lil jon and the eastside boyz is that they're white.
Lil Jon yelling "Yeah!" and "Okay!" Is different than an emo kid growling and screaming. Lil Jon is the only crunk artist i know that yells, the rest of them just rap, but EVERY crunkcore song I've heard is mostly (if not entirely) screaming and growling with some bad rapping occasionally thrown in

>are you talking from experience or from stereotypes?
i mean the stereotype goes that scene kids all moved on to become hipsters
They won't enjoy bones or suicide boys because those artists aren't like BOTDF or UKMG, they're underground rappers without much rock/metal influence in their music. If someone listens to crunk core, they'd probably like Black Veil Brides, Sleeping With Sirens, etc a lot more

>Lil Jon yelling "Yeah!" and "Okay!" Is different than an emo kid growling and screaming.
not that much. certainly not enough to warrant its own genre tag
>If someone listens to crunk core, they'd probably like Black Veil Brides, Sleeping With Sirens, etc a lot more
there might be a fanbase overlap due to the era it was popular in but stylistically brokencyde and ddc are a LOT closer to rap music than the glam metal, pop punk, etc that those bands play
the only rock influence in crunkcore is the screaming, bones did that on his Useless mixtape, Ghostemane does it a lot, that doesn't make them cloudrapcore

then again "soundcloud rap" isn't really a genre but if crunkcore is, it might as well be, it's got all the qualifications, people will know what you're talking about

Not a fan, but I like AnCo and DG.
It's not that I don't care about lyrics, but I think that they are a lot less important than the music, except in a few genres.
I watch Fantano's reviews, but only occasionally.
