I kind of see what you mean, but the album was before this colour palette was associated with hip-hop.

That's a fair enough point. it's definitely reflective of Partridge's acerbic wit, and it was pre hip hop. That said, it's a connection I can't really dismiss. What might have been good design then doesn't look so great now, even if it isn't the designer's fault.

Op here, this is a fantastic cover. Not as good as Heroes, but it's still damn great, especially if you get the sleeve as each part of it only covers a quarter of the picture, so you don't really get the full image of Bowie's disfigurement- you kind of just get suggestions that something is off from each piece. Really fits the mood of the record.

Thought I think Lodger has a good cover, Bowie often picks pretty bad cover art for otherwise good records. Low is one example of a great record having just kinda okay artwork (especially compared to Heroes right after it). Reality is an obvious example as well.

Most egregious for me in terms of disconnect between quality of album and quality of artwork is Outside. Great record, his best 90s work. Terrible artwork.
