I'm a 23 year old who can name you at least 100 better folk records that you'd rather spend your time listening to. You'd be lying to yourself if you think anyone will remember it in 2 years (if not less.) I liked some songs though, like Soothing, Don't Pass Me By and Always This Way. That said, they don't make me wanna go back.

It's not even a folk record, I don't see how that's relevant.

I don't care if anyone else remembers it, but it's a quality album and Laura's music constantly gets slept on since it isn't as immediately gripping as other similar stuff. She's still an incredible songwriter/performer.

Yeah and Fantano's a fucking retard for thinking that, it's obviously restrained for effect. If anything the contrast between her vocal delivery and the melodies/lyrics are one of my favorite things about the album.

Male baritones/basses always have that similar kind of vocal inflection, it's really interesting to hear it sung within a woman's range, even though she's a contralto.
