Why was he so resented?
too much talent
The mastermind of style over substance in popular music. Post-modernism gone wrong: music edition. Before someone else says it, no, just having stuff like poly-rhythms/meter doesn't automatically entail substance.
>>71617293
He was pretentious and a perfectionist with a big ego that made him insufferable to be around.
HAHA PEEPEE SEX BUTT FART EVERYBODY BUT ME IS TERRIBLE
Fucking genius
>>71617307
but that also made his music great though
Braindead politically-illiterate insufferable libertarian whose music amounted to >>71617313
>>71617313
>>71617336
but what about his instrumental records?
>>71617240
no-one resents him. People either like him and his music, or don't know who he is / don't care about him. Most normies probably just find him weird and some throwback to the 80s, perhaps something their parents listened to.

>The mastermind of style over substance in popular music.
It's not possible for popular music to have substance. You've been duped by marketers if you believe otherwise. People like Zappa only tried to make the style substantial.
probably because he was an idiot with a soapbox
>>71617500
>>71617480
what i meant was why he seemed to be resented at everything
>>71617642
Go on tell me about the depth of your favorite teenage temper tantrums and easy bait for thinkpiece farms. Pop music is all style by its very nature.
Most based musician ever.
He still makes leftists scum butthurt after more than 20 years after his death.
He's the ultimate pleb filter tho.
>>71617313
>EVERYBODY BUT ME IS TERRIBLE
Are you retarded? He uses to make fun of himself.
>>71617806
>used
Fixed.
>>71617722
what's your favorite band anon
>>71617822
Not really sure, but as far as rock bands are concerned, I guess it would be something like Bauhaus, Talking Heads, and The Clash.
I don't think of them as having any substance.
>>71617240
One thing I'll say about Zappa, he may he the God of Rock, but he'll never be the Lord of Rock n Roll.
>>71617747
>He still makes leftists scum butthurt after more than 20 years after his death.
how so? not baiting or shilling, genuinely curious.
Absolutely Free and Uncle Meat are GOAT
>>71617500
nigga you ain't ever listen to Steely Dan?
>>71618278
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES
>>71618078
So you're not a fedora tipper, just a basic post-modern hipster faggot.
>>71618078
>talking heads
>no substance
>>71617240
I fucking love this guy, cosmik debris was a legend
>>71618424
It's kind of like when you're so far up your own ass that the only thing you can hear are your own farts, so anything that lacks nitrogen and hydrogen is "lacking substance".
>>71617480
I know about him and resent him.
>died 20 years ago
>music is still triggering plebs left and right
he did something right desu
>>71618539
that's because you're a colossal faggot my dude.
>>71618357
HE'S BEEN SICK
based
>>71618424
They might be the best embodiment of style over substance even if they tried to make their style substantial. It really didn't amount to anything more.
>>71618207
he must be talking about the several times where zappa were reprimanded by the government, which had Reagan of all people on presidency
>>71617806
His attitude showed otherwise
>>71617240
"They hated him because he told the truth"
>>71618207
His views don't exactly jive with contemporary leftism (see: >>71617336). Some of his social commentary was pretty enjoyable. The criticism of suburban life and American society on his early albums is better than that of the many punk bands who tried to do the same, and his jabs at the hippies are pretty good too. But I really only agree with him when he's tackling easy subjects, and can see why they might turn people off.
>>71617313
>ME IS TERRIBLE
This is the essence of most punk rock too.
>Zappa
>right wing
lol. Other than being an economic gibsmedat libertarian he spent his life fighting establishment conservatives and warhawks. Dude spoke at pro choice rallies and AIDS walks against Reagan.
>>71619296
if it aint 100% leftist it aint no fwend ob mind!!!
>>71617240
he was superior to his contemporaries, a true eclectic, so he didn't care about making any friends
it's no coincidence his friend-rival was captain beefheart
>>71618539
then answer OPs question if you haven't already
Resenting someone once they're dead is pretty silly
