Why are the 80s the best decade, musically?
>cheesy synths
>farty basses
>gated drums
yeah no thanks.
Best? In terms of what? Every decade has its strengths in comparison to others.

Idk I'm biased because I grew up listening to a lot of it from my parents. But it's just so varied in sounds but there was definitely a lot of shit like glam metal and whatever. A lot of one hit wonders but they're all so good

Every decade is varied in terms of sound besides when you get back further and further before music was evolving as much

The 80s were good until 1984, everything after that was shitty pop like cyndi lauper and other radio friendly trash

Counter-argument

blanket statements like these should be avoided

listen to early synthpop like OMD then listen to what every decent band sounded like by the late 80s, sanguine sappy synths over generic chords. maybe bands that started in the late 80s were okay, but it killed all the good new-wave synth pop bands

you only proved my point with this reply

should've known

mostly this. After New Wave faded the eighties turned to hair metal and very cheesy pop R&B. However, new wave became alternative underground or less popular stuff and that stayed decent well into the 90's.
dude the 70s and the 90s are far superior. I could even see someone making a strong case for the 00s

Exactly this is why I think the 80s are so great. New wave/post punk has had a profound effect on indie music

A lot of my favorite artists released some great stuff in the 80's but besides those, I don't particularly think the rest of the decade is that interesting
